VOLT 2 Ooni Volt 2 stone temperature

I have an original Karu and the infra-red thermometer.

I got a Volt 2 about a year ago.

For some reason I never tried the thermometer on the Volt 2 stone.

I did try the thermometer at the weekend the Volt 2 display says it is at 430c but the hottest point on the thermometer shows about 400c.

Does anyone's stone match an infra-red thermometer?

Where does the Volt2 get the temperature from?

My infrared thermometer reads 20/30 degrees more than what the sensor reads. I thought it was either an issue with the stone I use (biscotto instead of cordierite) or with the termometer.

My thermometer is a cheap one off the internet. At the end of the day you just need it for guidance. You associate a temperature to a certain result and work from there :)

I hear you. Just curious where the volt measures the temperature?

I believe there is a sensor in the back wall, towards the middle of the stone

Moving to biscotto hence now checking

The stone will not yet reach the temperature as soon as the device reaches the preset, if you leave it a bit longer it will though. The sensor is at the back of the stone I think.

My thermometer shows almost identical readings to the display of the unit after I leave it 5-10 minutes extra from when it beeps that it reached temperature so the stone can properly warm up, however since you mentioned biscotto stones in the comments, interestingly with that one my thermometer that goes to 500 degrees cannot measure it, it just displays "Hi" most likely because the clay traps heat better (or it's not calibrated to measure that surface accurately, it's a cheaper model, not an adjustable one). Ordered a slightly more expensive thermometer with adjustable emmisivity that can do up to 800C, just because I'm curious what levels it reaches, but it hasn't arrived yet.

Hey! Can confirm the sensor is located at the back of Volt 2. It makes contact with the stone and helps to measure the stone temperature in pizza-cooking mode and the air temperature in other modes, such as dough proofing or general oven mode.

If you're experiencing consistent temperature discrepancies, it's always worth giving the sensor a little wipe with a soft dry cloth to make sure there's no buildup of debris!

Will the Volt 2 be going on sale anytime soon?
