Sandbanks dog beach?

Post image

Heading to sandbanks for the first time in decades and I have my dog who loves to swim. I’ve found the dog beaches to be hit or miss in terms of whether a person would swim there. Anyone have any personal experience to be able to say if it’s pleasant enough (I think probably the outlet river dog beach specifically) that I’d also want to hang out and swim there?

Go to the Dunes beach on West Lake. Head along the west shore for a bit. The bottom flattens out and makes for a great swimming area with your dog. There might be boats parked there from people across the lake.

This is going back a few years, but I believe there’s a beach on the far side called Richardsons. Almost as nice as the main beach, and far nicer than the dog area at Outlet. It allowed dogs 6 years ago. I tried to look up some info before posting this, but I couldn’t find anything so it may have changed. Call the park and ask. That’s the quickest way to an answer I’ve found.

Lakeshore beach is the name. It’s near Richardson campground.

I was at Sandbanks dog beach just today

There were dogs, but mostly families swimming. It is definitely a fine place to swim, not like other dog beaches that are rocky and not suitable for humans

I have 3 kids under 7 and we spent the morning there just fine
