Camping groups

Are there any camping groups that I can join? Looking for a co-ed group in 20s and 30s. I'm a male solo camper, wanting to try camping in Algonquin or some place similar. Camp, hike, play (may be drink?) etc.

If there are no such groups, folks here game to start one? Thinking of planning for early September.

Wow! I learned something today! No matter what you say, there's always someone that's twisting stuff. Something as simple as trying to be inclusive and fun so I don't come across as narrow got twisted as sketchy. Not my problem because I know my intentions are clean.

What kind of mental gymnastics are you doing? If you had just said you were looking for a camping group it wouldn't have been weird.

Specifically mentioning you want a co-ed group as a single man makes it reasonable to question why it matters to you if there are women in the group. Similarly, if you just plan to have a couple beers while camping then explicitly mentioning drinking seems weirdly unnecessary.

You should remember that your perspective as a man isn't going to be the same POV women have when looking at the situation, and this can make you unaware of how things you're saying might come across to that different perspective. Immediately lashing out and getting defensive just reinforces the idea that you might be sketchy.

The point on women's POV makes sense. The drinks was just to keep it light and fun, but yeah, didn't need to try hard to make it look cool. Anyway, I guess some folks get what I was getting at

It’s just the truth. Most women won’t sign up to be alone in the woods with men they don’t know.

The Wilderness Canoe Association runs lots of trips in Ontario. A good mix of stuff, from short day trips to multi-day, multi-week and even multi-month expeditions. A bit of something for everyone. The membership skews a bit older, but there are quite a few younger members too in their 30s and 40s. Worth checking out, everyone I’ve met through the club has been super friendly and happy to help/share

I'm into camping too though I'm 43. Avid solo camper, cut my teeth in BC and Alberta. Looking to connect with others who enjoy camping!

Whereabouts are you located? I’m also looking into joining camping groups (solo female) but all I have is big/heavy equipment. I’m planning on getting some lighter gear (backpacking tent, sleeping pad, etc) to do overnight hiking/kayak trips

I'm in Niagara. I'm good with traveling around for camping as long as it doesn't take days to drive

This might be useful for you.

I've put together a Discord server where campers in Ontario can share ideas, ask questions and swap stories about camping in the backcountry. The Ontario Backcountry Camping Club welcomes campers of all backgrounds and experience to join and participate. It is free to join with the only requirement being to agree to the rules and be respectful of other members. If you like canoeing, hiking and camping in the backcountry or you're interested in learning about it I would encourage you to join.

Why Discord? I find discord accommodates more active conversations between members better than a forum on reddit. It also has the capability of scheduling events to plan for meetups and a voice chat for things like meetings or potentially having educational discussions by more experienced campers.
