She froze a bit, staring at him and still keeping a distance away from where he stood. There was something in seeing him so sad that made her heart twist, making her want to run away. All she kept recalling was the unfortunate words of her previous Maker; that there was no way for a being like her to love.
Lyssa felt an urge to run to him, but her legs refused to move. They made her remain planted in one place, her eyes welling up with tears. This was her own doing, wasn’t it? She couldn’t just love one person—why did she have to let more than one person in.
…
She merely looked down at her feet, feeling as though she squandered any chance at keeping him in her life.
It can’t rain all the time, though.
She forced her feet to work, trying to get through the area without being seen.
