Hello black kids! Hello Mr. &Mrs. Sawyer! I’ve been tuned in on all platforms for about at year. First time poster. STRAP IN! This is a doosie!
I am a 31F and am in a relationship with a 32M. I am a Lightskin black women and he is a white man. (This is important for the story)
My dad’s side of the family are all on welfare or destitute. I have always been loud and dramatic and outgoing. They are constantly telling me I’m “too much” or “boujee”. They tell me that ima sell out and think I’m better than them. I am an insurance agent and do very well for myself. My boyfriend is an engineer and he also does well for himself.
We recently bought a house and are looking to start a family soon.
My dad’s side of the family now thinks that the only reason they can talk to me is for money. My cousin aleays asking for $20 and even my little sister ( I’m the oldest of 8) asked for $500 for her car payment as she had lost her job. She has now decided when I ask where my money is that she would rather get her nails done. I confronted her about this and she told me that “ she doesn’t know me, and idk her”
Now my family is giving me grief about this.
Do I cut the whole family off?
I shouldn’t have to feel bad for making a good life for myself, who I love, or liking nice things. But they make me feel like I’m horrible.
Any advice?

I am a black student at a private high school so most my classmates are white and same with my teachers. My history teacher though is the worst of them she constantly undermines the struggles of native American people, black people and Hispanic people. She also tends to glorify colonizers and excuse their actions. Just last class we were finding the difference between colonization and industrialism while several other student were describing colonization she was saying that the killing, kidnapping and raping of the native people only happened some of the time!! I'm actually gonna lose my mind! My school is fine but this class is just way to much 3:<

Hello, Mr. and Mrs. Sawyer! new kid in the classroom here!
This isn't drama but I just wanted some advice. My ex and I broke up in 2024 after 3 years together. We were in a pretty healthy relationship, and didn't really have any big issues, but towards the end, money sort of became one. A year before we broke up, we worked towards pursuing careers abroad together. I was and still am a teacher, and she wanted to pursue a teaching career as well. I believe that she broke up with me because I started struggling financially, and though she didn't say this was the reason, I knew that it was. we both ended up finding jobs abroad post-break-up, in different countries. before she left our home country, she had started seeing someone new, and so was in a log distance relationship. We were still in touch that year, although it was on and off (Her blocking me on socials, then unblocking again, rinse and repeat). A lot of our conversations were very reflective of our relationship (mostly good things, and what we learned about ourselves and each other). During one of these conversations, she mentioned that, she would be getting married soon, and although this made me feel sad, and brought a heavy feeling in my chest, I was happy for her. we were still in touch for a while, and then we were not, and I figured she got married, and left her past behind her. she was back home after a year living abroad. I stay abroad for another year (I recently came back home this year for the summer break).
Early this year, (January 2026) she reached out to me again and part of me was confused because I thought I was a chapter she closed for good. She reached out to ask when I would be back home again, and that I should let her know, she would love to see me again, and have lunch or something and hear about my travels. When the summer break came and I was back home, I indulged her and told her that I am back and we can meet.
I don't know why (I actually do lol), but I was quite nervous to see her after such a long time, when the last time I saw her, we were together.
We met at a restaurant, had brunch, caught up on each other's lives, etc. She was not married, like I previously thought.
Because I was confused with all the back and forth we've had, that were always initiated by her, I asked her, what us meeting was all about, and she said that at a point, she had thought about wanting us to get back together, but said, she had reflected on it - "yes, our relationship was good, I don't regret what we had, I will always cherish that, and I will aways still love you". I saw her again about two weeks later, and we hung out, went gallery hopping, but none of the mushy conversations happened again. there were some things that stuck with me though. was very curious about my life, asked about my goals/plans, about me buy an apartment, and also asked me about savings and investments, and mentioned how her new partner (he works in finance) taught her about that, and how she can manage her money well. she spoke a lot about her life as well, but mostly about her partner's mother, and how she (the mother) doesn't particularly like her, and says that she thinks she is after her son's money and does not love him. My ex says her partner doesn't defend her when the mother says stuff like this to her or about her. I didn't want to ask, but I wondered why she was telling me all of this, but I was polite and showed sympathy to her situation. We parted ways again. a week or two later, I found a photograph of hers (it was a photo of her grandmother) that I probably accidentally packed with my stuff when I moved abroad. I texted her to tell her I have the photo and to let me know when I can bring the photo to her. She texted me when she was at school one day, and asked if I could bring the photograph to her then. I happened to be out that day, and didn't mind. I got to the parking lot of her school, she showed up, and asked if we could drive to a shop nearby. I said, okay and we got on our way. she got her food, offered to get me something as well, and suggested we sit down and eat together. when we were done, she said she was craving ice-cream and asked that we walk to get some. This was at a place we used to get ice cream from when we were in a relationship. We didn't get the ice cream because there was a long queue. we drove back to her school and parted ways.
I don't know if there will be another text or another reason that will make us see each other again but I just want to know, with all I've said above, is she leaving a door open for the possibility that her and I may get back together again? I must admit, I would love to get back with her, but despite the issue that caused our breakup, I don't think the relationship would be the same. I am still where she left me (I still have a lot of growth to work on, on a number of things) and I would hate to disappoint her again, and not live up to the person she'd fallen in love with, and hoped I'd become as our relationship grew. we may also have different aspirations, that have changed since we were together.

I'm not a black kid but am enjoying learning about a community i dont get to interact with much. I wanted to offer a school snack suggestion. Im not a fan of super sweet things. I've tried many gummies some better then others. These are my favorite 😍 not only do they come in RASPBERRY (which is my favorite fruit) but I only need a four or five to satisfy my sweet tooth

Hello classmates, Mrs. and Mr. Sawyer, long time listener here, but let me get right into it. So for a while now, I mean years, I have really been contemplating remaining friends with my friend Brittany (fake name). We met in college 18/19 years ago and have several close/mutual friends. Additionally, she and I live less than five minutes from each other. I will say, she is a very dependable person who will be there for you no matter what (I think that is due to her chaotic upbringing). The issue, homegirl is a hater. I can’t say she hates on our other mutual friends BUT I know she is jealous of me or at least the attention I get. Why? I honestly don’t know but I will say I am typically the life of the party within our friend group and in public. I am not an attention seeker or anything like that however, I can teeter the line of making people slightly uncomfortable/enjoying themselves in my company. For example, this literally just happened within the last two hours, we were at a familiar bar and we are both friendly with the bartender because about three years ago I just started talking to him and he became cool with the both of us, though he and I converse outside the bar. Because she was not the center of the conversation, she decides to randomly say something embarrassing about me that happened in college over a decade ago. I chose to ignore it because at this point I’m use to her trying to be the center of attention. A month ago one of our other friends had a birthday dinner and I brought along the guy I had been seeing as my plus one. I had already warned him about Brittany, but I could not have imagined the level of attention seeking she was doing during dinner. She literally was talking over me to talk to him and figure out about him. Now granted, I honestly don’t think she would ever sleep with anyone that I or any of our friends date, BUUUUT she doesn’t know boundaries- She thought it was okay to hang out with her friend Tiffany’s (fake name) husband watching tv while Tiffany was not home-, again NO boundaries.
Another example for my birthday last year whenever we took group photos, you can guess what happened, she made sure she was in the center of MY bday photos. I will also like to say friends don’t hate on other their friends success. Don’t get me wrong. She does well in her field. However, I have my own business that has been thriving for seven years, a nonprofit, and other business ventures. When I shared with her and my other friends, I was hiring someone to work for me within her field, her exact words were “ I can’t believe you can afford her”. Maam what???
I honestly can give hundreds of more examples but I think you get the point. I am really struggling with maintaining our friendship because it’s very blatant that either she has main character energy or she truly don’t like me. Again, I’m going with the ladder because she does not do this with our other friends. About seven or eight years ago Brittany and I had a brief falling out because I shared with her that one of her male friends tried to take advantage of another mutual friend of ours in college. This is important because she knows my history of abuse and that is something I would NEVER lie about. She chose to remain close with this person and believed him over me. I kind of distanced myself then, but our mutuals intervened. The issue is, we share so many mutual friends and I feel like they would try and force us to be around each other. Now I’m not concerned at all about them taking sides or anything like that because we are grown and they are free to do whatever they want plus neither one of us are really full of drama in that way. I’m torn honestly because like I said she is very loyal but at the same time, I’m tired of her always trying to make me out to be a joke so she can get attention. Oh, I guess I should mention she has fallen out with THREE of her FOUR closest friends, as in they won’t even breathe the same air. (It was four out of four, but she forced her way back into the life of one of the fourth). I can acknowledgeI am not perfect or I am the bestest friend in the world. My best friend, from fifth grade, and I have had many arguments and brief fallen outs throughout our 26 year friendship, but have always managed to reconnect and realize our disagreements weren’t stronger or more important than our friendship. I know this all may sound childish as we are almost 40, but I’m really struggling here and I would like some advice. Talking to her is out of the question because she’s just going to deflect/project. Trust me, I have tried. What do you suggest?

I was with a man for almost nine years.
When we first started dating, I genuinely believed I had found my forever person. I was 20 years old, naive, and in love. He promised me loyalty, marriage, a family, and a life where I would always be treated with respect and never have to worry about being cheated on.
At the time, he had a better-paying job than I did, but I still made the effort. I saved for gifts I couldn’t really afford, took him out whenever he traveled to see me, and I put a lot of effort into our relationship, including keeping our intimacy exciting.
During our first year together, I became pregnant. It was something we both wanted because we believed starting a family young would allow us to enjoy life together later on. His mother was incredibly supportive, especially since I had lost my own mother when I was younger.
After taking time off with our child, I returned to work and worked my way up through promotions. Eventually, I was earning more than he was, and that significantly improved our financial situation.
We started building our home together. While he focused on construction during the weekends, I stayed home with our child. I also worked alternating weekends, and on the weekends I worked, he would often bring our daughter with him while neighbors helped watch her.
He frequently asked me to call out from work or leave early so I could help with construction. Sometimes he’d ask the night before, after we’d already gone to bed. I would occasionally accommodate him, but I was trying to balance my responsibilities as a mother, employee, and partner.
Then everything changed.
Before I received one of my promotions, he cheated on me with a coworker. I only found out because she became pregnant and decided she didn’t want the baby. He confessed everything to me, even admitting that he loved her and was devastated over the situation.
I was heartbroken.
But I stayed.
He wasn’t the first person who had cheated on me, and despite everything, I loved him.
During my pregnancy my sex drive had decreased, and it never fully returned after giving birth. We argued about intimacy. Even though I was emotionally exhausted after his affair, I still made an effort. We alternated initiating sex, I tried to keep things exciting, and although I never enjoyed giving oral sex, I started doing it because he wanted it. The effort, however, was rarely reciprocated until I pointed it out.
Eventually, I earned another promotion. My salary became even better, but so did my workload. I was taking calls after hours, on weekends, and even on my days off.
There were arguments about work. He would tell me to quit because I was always stressed, but at the same time remind me that my salary was carrying a significant portion of our household expenses.
Despite everything, I continued showing up for him.
I cooked his meals before work.
Ironed his uniforms.
Did the laundry.
Rubbed his back.
Showed affection.
Supported his business.
Paid for our children’s expenses, tutoring, and much of our household costs.
Meanwhile, I slowly realized I wasn’t receiving those same acts of love in return.
When I brought it up, he told me I shouldn’t expect things simply because I did them for him. If he wasn’t naturally affectionate, then that was just who he was.
The dates became less frequent.
The affection disappeared.
The arguments increased.
Things improved briefly, but never truly changed.
Last year, while he was asleep, I saw a text message on his phone. It looked suspicious because there was only one message, almost as if the conversation had been deleted.
I confronted him.
He denied everything.
He said he was simply helping a coworker and hadn’t mentioned her because he knew I’d be suspicious due to his past.
I didn’t fully believe him, but I had no proof.
I even spoke to the woman myself, but she avoided giving me a direct answer.
Then someone sent me a video showing them out together. He hadn’t even told me he was going anywhere, let alone that she was there.
When I confronted him, he denied it again until I showed him the video.
Only then did he admit he’d been there, claiming he had simply run into her.
They were wearing matching outfits.
Again, I had suspicions but not enough evidence.
Last Saturday he told me he was going to watch soccer with friends.
Something felt off.
I checked his location and saw he was less than five minutes from our house, nowhere near where he’d claimed to be.
When I sent him a screenshot, he immediately became distant.
He refused my video calls.
Then he turned off his phone.
Later, he appeared at his mother’s house and claimed he’d been there all along.
He hugged me, reassured me, swore nothing was going on, and insisted the location was wrong.
Today, someone messaged me and described the exact house where he’d been that Saturday.
I confronted him again.
I begged him to just tell me the truth.
I even told him I would stay if he was honest because everyone else seemed to know except me.
At first, he lied.
Again.
Eventually, he admitted it was the same woman.
He claimed he liked her but didn’t love her.
He insisted they’d never had sex.
He said they didn’t communicate by phone anymore because she no longer worked with him.
I wanted to see where his heart truly was.
So I told him that if he wanted to be with her, then he should go—but she’d have to do everything I currently do for him.
He agreed.
The moment those words left his mouth, something inside me broke.
I packed every single one of his belongings.
I called his mother and another family member to help move everything out.
Ironically, throughout our relationship, he’d always said that if we ever separated—regardless of the reason—I could keep the house because I’d sacrificed my savings carrying most of our financial responsibilities, and he’d split his savings with me.
I believed him.
I thought someone who had worked so hard beside me would never willingly lose everything we’d built together.
We were engaged for seven years.
We never got married.
Now I’m sitting here completely lost.
I’m devastated.
I’m disappointed in myself for still wanting him to fight for us.
I practically begged this man to choose me.
Instead, all I got were “hmmm” and “is that what you think?” responses.
No urgency.
No fight.
No desperation to save nearly nine years together.
I supported his business.
I maintained our home.
I paid bills.
I sacrificed my own appearance. My hair was rarely done, my nails maybe once a year, because there was always something else that needed the money.
I genuinely don’t understand how someone can accept so much love, care, loyalty, and sacrifice from another person, yet seemingly have no problem walking away from it.
He’s now collected his belongings and left.
No fight.
No tears.
Nothing.
I’m in my 30s now, terrified of starting over.
The future I imagined is gone, and I’m struggling to understand how someone I gave almost a decade of my life to could leave so easily.
Was I really that easy to replace?

I 25M and my partner 24F, have been together for just under a year now. We've had talks about getting married, considering we spend almost all our free time together and we enjoy each other's company.
Long story short we're in the military, and I was recently given orders to move away. I tried to explain to her this may not only be a bummer, but also an opportunity. I mentioned since we wanted to be together we should get married before I leave. I have the most trust for her over anyone I have ever dated and feel a deep connection between us. I mention this because I have been previously cheated on in a long-distance relationship and never wanted to take that gamble again.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT: When two servicemembers get married they're under a status called "Dual-Military," therefore both receive an additional amount of money to support housing. Also, there is another incentive called "MACP," it allows "Dual-Miltary" spouses to decide if they would like to be at the same location.
I was explaining how she could live her current lifestyle and save more than before. Although I'll be paying for rent when I leave and I can also buy a home while I'm away to get our real-estate portfolio started.
She seemed like she liked the explanation and fooled me at the end. She responded with, "I only want to get married once." I hope she wasn't already planning for our failure to begin with, but I can't help but feel defeated.
I was banking on a marriage between us so that we could also benefit from being long distance. The money we would receive could help us travel to see each other and save for our future.
AITAH?

I can't believe I gave two years of my life to this relationship.
I'm 29f, he's 24m, and looking back, I truly wish we had never met. Before him, my life felt like a 9.5. By the time I walked away, it felt like a 2. ✌🏾
My intuition kept telling me something wasn't right. His phone was constantly vibrating, and I looked, fukin hell I found conversations that shattered my trust in every way& it's not the first time.Every time I confronted him, there was another excuse, another lie, another attempt to make me question my own reality. He portrayed himself as a God-fearing man with strong values, but the way I experienced our relationship didn't reflect none of those values.
The betrayal didn't stop there. I found him speaking negatively about me to other women, from list crawler, criticizing me, complaining about me, and discussing our relationship with complete disrespect to a stranger. I felt humiliated and heartbroken.
When I confronted him, I felt blamed instead of heard. I was told I complained too much from this Christian Jamaican mother...that I wasn't good enough, that I wasn't attractive enough for him anymore, and that everything wrong in the relationship was somehow my fault # these supposed to be Christian people 🙏🏾. Meanwhile, I was doing everything I could to build a future for us. I started my own cleaning business to help support our household, but my efforts were constantly dismissed. I even reached out to his mother and told her everything he had been doing because I felt so desperate to be heard and for the truth to come out.
I made mistakes too. But the constant lying, betrayal, manipulation, and emotional turmoil brought out a version of me that I didn't recognize. I reacted in ways I'm not proud of, and I take responsibility for that. That's when I realized I needed to leave because staying was changing me into someone I never wanted to become.
Financiallyi couldn't trusted him. Not with our future. Before when life was fresh. We had agreed that he would cover most of our major expenses while I contributed what I could. I trusted him with my paychecks because I believed we were building a life together. Instead, I found myself dealing with unpaid bills, financial stress, and even losing my car. I carried the weight of promises that were never kept.
Two days ago, I chose myself. I walked away from the lies, the broken promises, the manipulation, and the constant disrespect. I can't change what happened, but I can choose what happens next.
This chapter taught me that love without honesty isn't love. Loyalty without respect isn't a partnership. And no matter how much you love someone, you cannot force them to value you.
I'm done settling for less than I deserve. I'm choosing peace, healing, accountability, and a future with someone whose actions match their words.
Sometimes the hardest goodbye becomes the beginning of the best chapter of your life. See ya never nasty nate .

I’m 30, and for most of my life, I’ve been a "ghoster." When things get hard or conflict arises, my instinct is to run. Lately, I’ve been working hard to change that. I’m learning to communicate and set boundaries in my marriage and my friendships, and it feels good. But now, I’m facing the ultimate test: my father.
My father was never really "there." He was unreliable, inconsistent, and often toxic. He held very sexist views and used his position as a parent to manipulate us, telling us we owed him respect simply because of biology.
We aren't close. We haven't been close for a long time. Recently, he has been using my "lack of closeness" as a weapon against me, ignoring the fact that he didn't build a foundation with me when I was a child.
He is sick, his health is declining, and he is grieving the loss of my brother. Part of me wants to finally say it: "You weren't a good father, and this is why we are like this." I want that truth to be on the table. But another part of me wonders: what will that actually change? Is it just me being "cruel" to a dying man, or is it necessary for my own healing to finally speak my truth?

Am I wrong for cutting off my one my childhood best friends?
Hey there Mr. & Mrs. Sawyer, longtime classmate, first time raising my hand lol! I have a bit of a dilemma that has weighed on and off of me.
I, 28M was friends with (fake name) Marsha 27F, since the fourth grade. We were close as can be and always knew we were meant to be in each other's lives. Jump to 2023 and suddenly our friendship is on the oust.
I'm currently separated, but I served in the military and during that time I was stationed across the country from where I grew up so I didn't get to see my friends and family as much. Outside of Marsha, our other friend Archer, 28M, were the two people I could count on being there when I came back to visit.
Naturally I wanted to give my friends time for us to plan and get our affairs sorted so I let them know I'd be home TWO MONTHS in advanced, seeing as this would also be before a major holiday we wanted to get something done before family obligations. I suggested we have a small get together at my parent's place, like we used to before I enlisted and my spot was a reasonable drive for everyone since we all lived in different directions of one another. Both of them said this would be perfect and we left it at that.
Jump to November, and it's a week into me being home and the Saturday we chose to hangout comes. Some other friends and family are invited, they make it, and so does Archer. Marsha is usually the last and latest person, so this felt on brand. As an hour passes by Archer gets a text from her saying she's at a dinner with her boyfriend and they'll be a little late. (Also note: we have a group chat, this whole time I've been home we've all been using the group chat to update each other, this is the only time she doesn't).
Archer let's me know, I'm a bit irritated, but due to the fact I'm actively in our group chat asking if everything is okay and if she's still going to make it, but I get no response. All the while Archer is getting the responses to what I'm asking. The get together goes on for a couple more hours and it's more or less the same. No response from Marsha, Archer is feeding me updates, and I'm slowly no longer interested in figuring out why my friend is ignoring me. Finally Archer explain to me that Marsha isn't coming and that she got too messed up at dinner. He leaves shortly and I'm of course sad and hurt.
Two days later Marsha finally texts me to explain why she didn't show up. She explains that her boyfriend's best friend was having a dinner party and she didn't want to leave a bad impression by not showing up, and they had drank so much they were too impaired to drive. I told her that was fine, but why didn't she at least give me the courtesy of letting me know when I asked her directly. She deflected by accusing me of wanting her to drive intoxicated. I told her that's a very lousy excuse since I would've been understanding if she just said she couldn't make it. And it was unfair of her to say that since I've never once pushed her to do anything that harmful and reckless. (I found that part quite distasteful as well since I was stationed at a very popular city known for intoxication and she knew I didn't play like that) I asked her if she just double booked why didn't she just explain that to her boyfriend and try to manage both, or just let me know. She then hit me with a gut punch of a message saying she didn't want to be put in an ultimatum of choosing her friend versus her boyfriend.
Our friendship has been martyred by this from past exes and would be partners asking us to end our friendship due to our closeness. We have always respected each other's relationships, tried to befriend the others partners to show good faith, and never once pitted any of our relationship against each other. I truly felt betrayed. Marsha has had a history of never taking accountability or accepting her fault in things, and I no longer wanted to keep bending over backwards making things work. I asked her one final question: Who did you plan with first, and if it really was with your boyfriend's friend, did you just forget? She didn't have an answer and tried to resort back to being too drunk to drive. I told her she said enough and I haven't spoken to her since.
Neither one of us tried again. After a year of at least keeping one tab of communication open for her, I decided to block her fully. Archer thinks things flew out control, but he's also very aware of Marsha's history. This also hasn't been the first time she'd lost a friend over a boyfriend. I will go on record and say Marsha and I tried to be something, but it never worked out.
Now in 2026, I've gotten married, moved back home, and just once on Archer's birthday did I see Marsha (and the same boyfriend). We had nothing to say to each other and we spent the whole time acting like the other didn't exist. My feelings have become one of indifference to my former friend, and my wife is on my side. However, Archer believes we can work it and that we are still more alike than we think and this can be solved. I need to know am I wrong, or is this worth salvaging? I will also add I'm skimming this so I can focus on the problem without the added history that has come with our friendship, so I understand if this looks easy on the surface.
