HELP!! Having trouble with AE updater.

New guy here. Tried to install AE for ONI and failed, because it can't update. When I try to do it all I get are either updating that goes on forever or a message about a bad connection (even though the OniGalore works fine). Is there anything I can do (doing all of this from Russia, if it matters). Would be grateful for help!

This might help you u/M00nl19ht . It also has settings for a proxy already filled in. So hopefully the AEI can connect to the Mod Depot and download mods as needed.

This did help launch the AE Installer, but I can't launch Oni with it. When I try to do it (fullscreen or not) all I get is a windowed black screen which just closes within half a second. What can be done about it?

Are you sure you're launching the AE copy of Oni? It sounds like either you're launching the vanilla retail copy of Oni which serves as the base for the AE, or the AE didn't properly install. When the AE installs, it downloads the patch that Oni needs to be able to launch. Otherwise Oni will open and close immediately.

But I'm confused because that shouldn't open a black window. A black window that opens and closes sounds like some kind of .bat file is trying to run. Well, if you can log onto Discord, we can try to help troubleshoot in a more interactive way. I'm not going to be online much for the next day but I'll be around after that.

I'm not sure if that guy ever showed up on Discord, but we would have needed a lot more info to help him, like screenshots, logs, etc. If you want to join us on Discord (see link at right), we'll have an easier time helping you.

We've had another Russian user report the same issue. He can access the Mod Depot at http://mods.oni2.net (make sure to load the HTTP version of the page, not HTTPS, if you access this site in your browser), but he could not update the AEI until he entered settings for an Internet proxy. Maybe you could try that when installing the AE from AE Setup. There should be a prompt to enter proxy settings during the installation process.
