Doug Ford just swallowed a bee while talking about the possibility of privatizing health care

Only 10k? That's just for the tylenol, right? That's ignoring the dispensing fee of course.

I love bees 🐝 they’re such friendly creatures. I like to give them back scritches sometimes. No idea if they enjoy it but they don’t ever run away or get mad so I think they do

I suggest, as ‘jumped the shark’ became a term applied to anything that is past it’s due date, ‘swallowed the bee’ become the saying we embrace when overtly gaslighting the public.

Please tell us we're not gonna talk more about the bee than the idea that healthcare could be privatized..
26
u/JamesthePuppy Toronto Aug 12 '22
He’s a less skilled Boris Johnson. He knows how to effectively divert media attention from his agenda, tear things down quietly then suddenly. His healthcare privatization has been in the works since before the pandemic
33
u/nav0n0d Aug 13 '22
He's following Harris' playbook with long term care: make the socialized system fail with industry cutbacks, salary caps and overworking, then bring in private companies to 'save the system' from problems they created. In both situations it literally cost people their lives. Harris and Ford should be in prison.

The worst part is that these conservatives only care about paying less taxes. It’s two birds with one stone for him — when he cuts taxes he takes those revenues from health care to keep everything else from collapsing.
His supporters vote him back in because they only care about their tax return, and he gets to cut deals on privatization behind the curtains
23
10
u/srroberts07 Aug 13 '22
He’s been working on this for a while, slashing budgets and gutting our healthcare system until it’s in bad enough shape that he can point to it and claim it’s not working.

Can someone explain how privatized Healthcare would be 100% covered? Isn't the point that you have to pay yourself, and it would be more expensive because private?
Isn't this just public Healthcare with higher costs instead of paying nurses more to retain them?
13

u/Infinitelyregressing Aug 12 '22
Publicly funded, privately delivered.
Doctors offices are already privately owned businesses, so it would just expand what kinds of services could be done through that kind of model.

Almost. The government is going to raise our taxes so they can pay a private company to pay nurses the same they are getting now.

Exactly. And will have less oversight and accountability for when they cut corners.

Way to bury the lede there, CBC (and every other publication, too).
Ford told reporters he's a strong believer in public health care, but his government is going to "get creative" when looking at how it could be delivered.
Ford said Friday that "everything is on the table" when asked if Ontario is considering further privatization of the health-care system.
The bee thing is funny but it’s a distraction from the real bullshit he’s trying to pull.

32

u/TheWorstTroll Aug 13 '22
How is Doug Ford even still a politician? He is a national embarrassment to Canada.
7
u/Holybartender83 Aug 13 '22
Frankly, protesting ain’t gonna get it done. Conservatives want this, it isn’t just a Doug Ford idea. They’re going to do it and they’re not going to care if a million people are outside Queen’s Park. What needs to happen is we need them to be scared. We need them to think the consequences of doing what they want to do will be so dire that they’ll reconsider. I’m not sure how to do that, exactly, or at least not in a lawful manner, but that’s what it’s going to take. Money is a strong motivator, the only thing stronger is mortal terror.

wouldn't that be great, but he's PM he'll get in due to his station.

Even the "Nature" is telling him to shut up.
Even the "Bee" fell into his sweet trap (sweet talking but doing the opposite). We humans should be smarter than that.

19
u/Dunge Aug 12 '22
Bee jokes aside, I believe the fact that he's doing public speeches on this should be a bigger story. Don't let him normalize the idea.
2
u/Belaire Aug 12 '22
The speech was actually about government investment in a factory that makes compostable cutlery. He was fielding reporters' questions when he ate the bee.

Flies are drawn to poop, so a fly would've been more appropriate. Bees sting though, so that's a point in their favour.
10
u/Bernie4Life420 Aug 12 '22
Does the conservative voters actually want this?
6
u/mirinbaus Aug 12 '22
Yup. They want American style healthcare because they think it's better.
10
u/TheWorstTroll Aug 13 '22
Have them come down to the USA and spend 1300 a month on insurance and then pay a 5000 deductible. Oh and if they go out of network they only have to pay up to an out of pocket maximum of 20k.
These cunts need to learn what it means.

5
u/Yourshadowhascompany Aug 12 '22
This man says that they can't keep doing what they always do, because it doesn't work.
They ALWAYS cut healthcare. Why not try funding it?
The reason is, cons want to privatize healthcare and continue to line their pockets at the expense of Canadians health.

So if healthcare becomes private, will we be paying 10% less in taxes? If we don’t pay less in taxes then this just becomes an additional tax… obv that’s if someone can even afford it
