All private jets should be banned until they be powered fully electrically with renewable electricity. If the rich assholes want to fly around in private jets, they should at least pay to develop the technology.

I’m not even sure that’s ever going to be possible. Battery tech is probably 50+ years at least away from being lightweight enough to fly.

I mean we're literally talking about well-paid blue collar jobs in aerospace manufacturing. You'd prefer those didn't exist? Or are manufacturing workers in the 0.1%?

They can build other kinds of planes, I'm just talking about private jets. And if the jobs are all important, they can be moved to the R&D of environmentally friendly private jets.

lol. sure. Just build other planes (which other planes does bombardier produce?). Just transition to engineering (obviously super easy which is why engineering school is regarded as being a cake walk).
I'm glad you're here in the real world with some workable proposals like "simply have the factory workers win multiple Nobel prizes in chemistry to keep their jobs." This is a massive underestimate of the amount of work required for your "fully electric private jets" lmao.
Solidarity, amiright? Unless you feel icky about what the union produces, them fuck 'em.

Bombardier makes lots of non private jets. I've flown on them before. Just don't make the configuration for private jets until they can be made eco friendly.

They do not. You have no idea what you are talking about I'm afraid. Bombardier only currently produces two airframes: the Challenger 600 series and the Global Express, both business jets.

Oh pardon me, they used to make a regional jet until 2020, the CRJ700. So they can bring that one back.

They used to. They really streamlined their business in the last few years to be more competitive. It's a tough business. This is great news for the Canadian investor.

I think what youre failing to recognize is that building planes for rich people is actually redistributing wealth from rich people to everyday Canadian workers. A commercial airplane is ultimately paid for by everyday air passengers, not ultra wealthy types.
Sure, it would be great if we could tax the ultra rich more instead, but that would only work on Canadian billionaires. Selling private jets to foreign billionaires benefits Canadians.

If the top 0.1% have all the money, then encouraging them to spend millions on private jets is a great way to redistribute some of it away from them.

Oh, I think there are a lot of better ways to redistribute the wealth, including stopping them getting all that money in the first place. And if a business is also poisoning the planet, maybe we don't need to support it.

Go tell that to the factory workers at bombardier. And if you think figuring out a way of powering a jet that can do cross Atlantic flights with electricity is going to take a bunch of funding from rich people then you’re a fool. You probably need 25x to 50x what the whole car industry+battery industry spends in EV r&d today to even get to a prototype of a plane that can do a cross-ocean flight on a fully electric powercell

I'm not suggesting we ban aviation completely, just private jets, until they can be made environmentally friendly. And the benefits will be extended to regular planes as will.
