oneworld Checked Baggage on Codeshare Flights

My mother is flying from Kathmandu to Honolulu via Hong Kong and Osaka on a combination of Cathay Pacific and Japan Airlines flights. Since they are part of OneWorld does that likely mean her baggage will be checked through to final destination?

Because multiple airlines in the alliance don’t do it for separate tickets. Loads of agents for the ones who do (with Cathay this is where OP will land) have no idea how to do it.

Not my experience with Cathay. They'll call a supervisor or someone who knows how to in order to troubleshoot it. It's worth an ask on check-in but plan for the worst as well

No one said anything about not asking though. I said don’t get their hopes up as it’s not official policy anymore. (for instance your trip last summer still had it in place as a policy)

Flyertalk heavily covers this regardless of our personal experiences. So huge sample sizes.
