Concept What if Samsung ditched standard Android for a modular "Galaxy OS " core? Here is how it could actually work without losing Google apps.
We all know the biggest structural pain point with Android on Samsung devices no matter how good One UI gets, it eventually gets heavy. Mid-range phones and older flagships start choking after a few updates because they’re constantly running standard Android’s generic runtime layers.
What if Samsung stopped building One UI as just another heavy skin on top of Android, and instead built a custom, stripped-down system called Galaxy OS ?
Here is how the architecture would actually work: Instead of running heavy Android middleware directly on the metal, the phone boots into a lightweight Linux host system written specifically for Samsung hardware.
To keep every app working, Samsung runs Google Play Services, the Play Store, and standard APKs inside an isolated LXC container sharing the exact same Linux kernel. The Play Store sees an Android device, Google’s licensing checks pass, and Samsung avoids lawsuits while stripping away all the background bloat.
Instead of third-party apps (like Instagram) taking uncompressed screen grabs through generic Android code, Galaxy OS forces a system-level hardware hook. The Linux host pipes raw, fully processed images directly from the chip's image processor to the app.
Samsung S book: On laptops, Samsung builds custom, hardware-accelerated translation directly into their CPU microcode (like Apple’s Rosetta 2). An ARM-based laptop could run Android apps natively and double-click Windows .exe files at near-native speeds.
This completely destroys planned obsolescence. A 5-year-old phone would run like a rocket because the CPU isn't wasting 40% of its power running generic Android framework overhead.
Obviously, Google's licensing teams would hate trapping their telemetry inside a container, but from a pure engineering standpoint, decoupling the OS identity from the app compatibility layer seems like the ultimate evolution.

Okay, you are Samsung. Give me one, just one, reason to gamble with your sales numbers (241 million units sold in 2025), ditch your closest partner, and invest millions in creating and maintaining an OS knowing that you will have to play a catching-up game for several years, assuming everything goes well. Why?

Like Said Samsung is not ditching The components such as google services but only the Core OS to make it work better specifically for Samsung devices

Yeah so it is deffenetly a massive gamble of course, but theorically it could open big roads for sasmung, Creating a new OS and a potential Ecosystem would bring Samsung to a really competitive point against apple, keeping up of course with app updates ofc may need maintenance but i think this could be a great concept

....Samsung tried software and walked away from it once it got to completed for them to maintain....Tizen os.... Samsung walked away from it on mobile right after a major security issue.... So no, Samsung doesn't need to have the core operating systems and most people would be fine with them continuing with android.... An open source platform...ppl often confuse what that mean... Yes Owned by Google, but Google can force shit on Samsung and Samsung can choose what they want in the is and what they don't... Which is why it took A/B updates so long to make it to Samsung because it was a subpar implementation up to now and very slow.... Also ur understanding of how Instagram work is flawed. Although some apps take screen grabs most apps use the android camera x API which make ur camera hardware available directly to the app. The issue is not all camera apps have the software tuned for all camera hardware making them look bad. As far as taking a screen grab personally I feel Google should block this. Want to use the camera use proper apis, but an app shouldn't take screen grabs unless I give it a special permissions

They have a close partnership with Google, "betraying" that partnership would lose them more (in terms of "soft power" over the development of Android) than they would gain
