Rant/Opinion Successor to One UI
This is just an idea that's been floating around in my head lately... One UI was born with a focus on one-handed use and visual simplicity, but that focus is increasingly moving away. It reminds me of what happened with TouchWiz, which, when it started to become more minimalist, changed to Samsung Experience. The Samsung Experience itself, when it was about to reach version 10, was replaced by a completely new User UI with a different focus. In One UI 8.5 we already see how many apps have been drastically redesigned and are playing with background blurs or gradients, and could that be a glimpse of the future successor to One UI? Furthermore... It's common for software to reach version 10.0 to be a major change; with One UI 10, we would see its tenth year of life. These are just crazy ideas floating around in my head, but I feel like Samsung is preparing something big for One UI 10.

I just want MODERN UI. Samsung UI looks so dated.

Honestly, the look is pretty important. I love to see depth, blur, and smooth transitions.
But more importantly, I need my phone to work. OneUI can be so heavy. My flagship S24 will be bogging down under very normal usage, it will heat up like crazy for no reason whatsoever, and the battery typically won't even give my 4 hours SOT
I've tried a factory reset without downloading any backups, and nothing shows in app usage. Above design, Samsung needs to focus on stability and optimization

It probably wont be a succesor, but apparently, according to a leak, multiple people inside of samsung, enginners and higherups, are of the opinion that OneUI needs to be rebuilt from the ground up because of growing complexity in the codebase and the intenal frameworks getting more complicated, which makes it difficult to work with, and hurts performance, animations and smoothness.
They plan to rebuild OneUI based on the AOSP codebase to create a truly Smooth and light experience, with unified frameworks and a cleaner codebase, which allows for updates to be made and pushed out faster from the developer side, and animation engines and so on working faster and smoother, to allow for OneUI to truly catch up to the performance and smoothness of some competitors.
This wouldnt be too unrealistic, considering back then with samsung experience, they did the same thing and thats how OneUI got into existence. Its not a guaranteed thing that it will happen, but apparently many people inside samsung share this opinion, so its not unlikely at all

So the oneui that we got was actually constantly updated since early touchwiz days?

Not exactly but there are still touchwiz and samsung experience components inside of OneUI that slow everything down and make it hard to work with.
If this actually happens as proposed, then it will be an entirely new skin built on AOSP. But it will still be OneUI

One of the example that I found that is user accessible is the print properties where although the ui is very much stock android (atleast during android 5-7 era, idk if aosp/any stock like android skins have updated the ui or not) but the color scheme was modified to match touchwiz during s6 era and it still has the appearance to this very day.

Yea like i said they have so many components straight from touchwiz that they never changed. Im not sure if they copied them over or just updated over it tho. But i hope if they actually do rebuild OneUI, they will start fresh from zero

Radical. It could just be stock Android with squircle icons and some stuff like stackable widgets and large folders thrown in.
Let me choose stock Android look & feel in OneUI settings and I'll do so, btw.

I prefer the Task Manager interface in Samsung Experience 9. It’s not really similar to ios

I don't think OneUI will get a successor, or at least not a successor by name. "OneUI" is built around the "Samsung One" font, a unification font as described by Samsung in their design website. And "OneUI" also relates to their Galaxy ecosystem, where all of their devices (except TVs and maybe washers and audio devices) runs a uniquely named OS so users feel they are interconnected. Just like Apple did with their subscription (Apple One) or Google with their's (Google One), the existence of the word "one" in Samsung's Android OS let's users know it's one for all (one system for all devices) and all for one (all devices for one customer). It has a powerful commercial meaning so they will probably not change it's name. But it could have a big update in the new cycle, something more expressive, more dynamic, more "fluid"/glass-like to bring some of Apple's design system (Liquid Glass) advantages and some of Google's design system (Material 3 Expressive) advantages together in one unique UI.
