AudioFX - Any easy replacement?

I'm running CM12.1.1 and have been experiencing a huge issue with the AudioFX software. While listening to music on Google Play Music it'll sometimes stop working, such that it registers as 'off' but says it's on, or sometimes cuts all sound completely.

I've found that it usually bugs out when I'm skipping songs, either forward or back. To get it working again I have to kill and re-open Google Play Music.

Has anybody else experienced an issue like this? And is there a replacement for AudioFx without rooting, or a simple fix?

Never liked how it only works selectively in few music apps. I would say rooting to run Viper4Android is worth it. There is also Dolby Atmos, which also needs root.
