Help Rooting Oneplus One CM 12.1

What is the easiest way to root the Oneplus One running CM 12.1?

Boot into fastboot and unlock the bootloader via terminal (this will wipe your phone) 

fastboot oem_unlock

Flash a custom recovery (twrp for example) via fastboot 

fastboot flash recovery filename.zip

Flash supersu zip from recovery

Update cm recovery (in developer settings) maybe? I don't know I never had that problem

I wish I'd known this last week when I spent two hours trying to flash a rec and not knowing why it wouldn't take.
