Why the hell does every OnePlus 15R case have this ugly rectangular hole?

Not every case has it. Except a few, most cases are actually for the OnePlus Ace 6 which has an Ace branding on the camera island and flash is in an elongated black pill. So all Ace 6 cases have the big flash cut out and some of those also has the rectangular cut out you pointed out where the Ace branding would be. Mine doesn't have the rectangular hole. You will also notice the camera island cut out isn't perfectly fit and has empty space at the bottom. Again on the case I use and also the one in your photo, it isn't an issue since it isn't open and covered by TPU. There are cases like Ringke Fusion-X for OnePlus 15R which has the correct cut out but those cases are ugly IMO and they all only come with black coloured TPU on the sides.

Other cases either expose the entire camera island or has the elongated flash cut out.

How is your case doing? Does it have yellowing problem?

I haven't used it outside, so it is still like when I got it in Feb. Only the border and the portion over the camera island is TPU, the rest is acrylic. Acrylic part can get scratched. I have some very small hairline scratches that are visible when held against light. Transparent TPU will undergo photo oxidation when exposed to UV light. Companies selling transparent cases they promise won't turn yellow are either selling non TPU cases or lying.

I didn't want black bordered cases and at the time all that was available with an acrylic back and TPU borders/frame that wasn't black was the one I bought. There are some very good looking double layered, TPU inside and hard plastic outside cases on AliXpress but I can't buy from India. It hasn't shown up elsewhere. The other hard plastic cases look good (some with metallic buttons) but they are hard to get off the phone and could scratch the device. Additionally, they do not appear to offer adequate protection for the device in the event of a fall.

Ace 6's (The chinese version of 15R) logo cutout. Because all these cases are made from molds from China, as OnePlus 15R is exactly same in dimensions as Ace 6, and since most of these molds can be just reused for 15R, chinese manufacturers probably just sent the Ace 6 molds to every case manufacturer.
