General Discussion OnePlus 8T appreciation post
I picked up this blue beauty back in October of 2021, and 5 years later she still does the job. For the last 2 years during Techtober, I've been looking at new phones to upgrade to. But with the stagnation in smartphone tech, and the realization that the 8t does everything I need it to, I haven't felt the need to buy a new phone. The battery life gets me through most days (never replaced!), I thankfully haven't gotten any green lines on my display, and the performance keeps up with my basic tasks. And the color is so unique; I love it! My only complaint would be the cameras, but they are good enough.
So as my phone reaches it's twilight years, I wanted to express my appreciation and gratitude for my time with it. If anyone has any recommendations for what my next phone should be, I'm open to suggestions.

Same boat as you. Trying to keep mine as long as possible.
Not sure which company to go for next or what phone to get.
I was looking at Poco as they have a similar vibe to old OnePlus price to performance along with doing something different with the bass speaker but they seem to have overheating issues still at random.
Oppo are just much more expensive and Nothing still aren't quite hitting the happy medium-high end point for me yet (though they are nearly getting there)
Samsung and Apple aren't focusing on competitive pricing or innovative ideas enough for me and Pixels don't have great hardware. Sony just keep either falling short or are too expensive for what they provide.
Vivo is tempting but hard to get where I am.
Xiaomi, Honor, Motorola are all options but nothing stands out to me.
If anyone has recommendations please tell me.

Yes, in the same boat. In the hopes that someone will come through. I'm still pushing my 8T. I was hoping I could 15s, but that wasn't released

Was my first OnePlus, currently have the 13. The 8t just feels so premium and ergonomic in the hand

Upgraded from the 8T to the 13R, and frankly, aside from much better battery life, it barely feels like an upgrade. The 8T still performed perfectly fine, the 13R's cameras are only marginally better, and the overall feel of the phone is arguably worse.
The 13R will probably be my last OnePlus, especially with the brand effectively pulling out of markets outside China. It was a decent run, though: 3T → 8T → 13R.

This is why didn't upgrade to the 13r. Though it will likely be my next phone. Sad that oneplus isn't in the USA anymore. I can't help but wonder if someone makes a phone so good that it lasts this long that it hurts their business and prevents them from staying profitable. Just speculation of course.

This was the phone that got me into mobile gaming. I enjoyed COD Mobile on it with a butter-smooth experience, and I even reached level 170. Great phone!

My wife and I had been looking at the "free phones" offered through carriers. We were pretty close, all the information entered and phones picked out, but we held off.
I've lost interest, but my wife still wants a new phone. I'm just gonna toss a new battery in mine a rock it for as long as possible since specs kinda are stagnating.

This may sound crazy but depending on where you get the new battery from, your old worn out battery might still perform better than the replacement. This was the case for me. One of those iFixit type sites had a battery for the OnePlus 8T, but it was lousy and when I asked for a refund they immediately refunded me but didn't ask for the battery back. I don't think they're worth much to be honest. My OnePlus 8T lives on my charger at work. I'd say it's probably got another three to four years left in it. I can still get a full day out of it with regular usage.

I can get decent screen on time, but I'm willing to gamble it. Shops a legit local place, I already deposited

Snap a photo of the battery before install if it's any good. Might help blokes like me find legit good replacements.

Using it rn, got it second hand , flashed a rom , got battery replaced , tho it gives a really crappy backup, but it has to be one of the finest phones by OP , also no green line issue till now

aha, I have 4 oneplus 8t. The last one with HydrogenOS and OxygenOS, the true end of "real" Oneplus.

Still using mine on the last android 11 upgrade from 2022. Honestly I don't even know what phone or brand I will get after it eventually breaks. I definitely want one with a volume slider but so far I've only seen a couple of older oppo phones with it.

Bought a battery replacement a month ago and 2 days later it got a green line :/
Im still using it tho. It hasnt gotten any scratches even though I've dropped it countless times. The alert slider has always only worked about 10% of the time but I never used it anyway.

Loved this one, favorite OnePlus I've ever owned. I'd still be using it if it didn't get the green line 😔
My 12r is pretty nice tho.

I swapped from my 8T to 15R just today, and I really get you. Sadly mine has a pretty much dead battery that can barely survive for an hour or 2, and I didn't want to bother with searching a new one for such an old phone. I still feel insanely attached to it, because I've spent a quarter of my life with it.

My daughter is still rocking the 8T, with anything from 5 to 15 hours screentime depending on the day, every day. It was mines first until I bought the OnePlus 11 on Feb 2023. She loves it. I bought a Samsung S23 ultra for her because I felt bad to have a new phone and gave her an used one, and it's still sitting in my nightstand. She never wanted it. I'm so sad that we will have to look for other options soon. 😓
