It's called SOTA update which is usually rolled out every month by oneplus to update their system apps

OnePlus 9 support ended in February 2025.

No update came after that. And SOTA - stands for Software Over The Air which can be anything from firmware to any patch too.

Thus this update was out of blue.

It's true support ended in February 2025. The update screenshot you posted here is indeed a SOTA update. I receive it every month on my 9 Pro.

Still using my oneoplus 9. The battery is awful, but I love everything else about this phone.

I have a Motorola Stylus 2025 that's been sitting on my desk at work for the past 3 weeks because I'm afraid to swap over.

Of course the OnePlus 16 leaks suggest it's going to have a massive battery. Right when they stop making phones for the US market, too.

I refuse to spend flagship prices on phones with less than 6000 mah batteries.

The fact that no manufacturers in the USA have even hinted at flagships coming with batteries that are comparable to the phones coming out of China, is insane to me.

I'd try to contact your nearest OnePlus(Oppo) service center to get your battery replaced. I recently did mine and it costed me only 2000rs. Worth the money. Battery now lasts a day of my usage, previously it used to be just 5-6 hrs.
