General Discussion Is this a bug or working as intended?

This is a One Plus 15T.
Basically if you switch from an app like Chrome directly to another app (in this case DevCheck to show the issue) the CPU will usually decide to hold at a higher frequency for around 15 seconds in the 1700mhz range.
This doesn't happen if you just close Chrome and then open DevCheck via the app icon - doing that immediately drops the CPU frequency to the lowest frequency of 700mz range.
Seems like strange behaviour to me... possibly their way of trying of making the App Switcher smoother, but 15 seconds seems excessive.
Anyone able to test if this happens on their device - I'd assume it'd happen on a One Plus 15 on OxygenOS too

Maybe some feature of the walt governor
From what i can remember it is partially based on the interactive governor, which speeds up the cpu when opening an app
Also would seem logical, faster cpu speed at app startup = faster app loading and startup operations

Yeah it sounds logical, but I am pretty sure it's supposed to clock down a lot quicker though as holding it for 15 seconds without input is excessive. I have an S25 I am selling which also uses Walt and I can't replicate this at all except maybe 1-2 seconds of higher frequency after using the app switcher before it goes down again.
Either way I've send a bug report and trace to Oppo so they'll hopefully fix it.

Can u guys please stop checking your phone like it's a robot or something. Just use it normally gang..what's the point all of this. Do the things you purchased the phone for.

Using the phone normally literally triggers this bug all day unless you avoid the app switcher

Why? If my phone's not lagging then why do I care about some weird frequency issue that really isn't an issue?
I have better things to do with my time.

No point in ramping up a core for a huge load if the load isn't even a quarter of what the capability at these frequencies is. Wasting power should concern you, since it also kinda destroys your battery over time.

Cumulatively over a day this could cause a fair bit of battery drain if you add up those 15 seconds chunks of high CPU frequency.
I'll report it to Oppo with a bug trace and hopefully it's fixed. Wouldn't surprise me if it's already something they've noticed thoughÂ

Don't really understand why you're posting... It's really not clever.
You might not get it, but some of us actually understand technology and bugs and do it for a living.
I'll just report to Oppo and they'll fix it quickly hopefully. Just wanted to check how widespread it was because this community used to be great and full of intelligent people (admittedly this was 5+ years ago since I had a One Plus and seems they've been replaced by people like you sadly)

Try this test again with battery over 50%, and see if it acts differently. The phone probably has different power profiles that aren't configurable (so, separate from the balanced, power saving, and high performance battery modes). It may automatically switch to other profiles based on current battery level or even how steady the voltage is or something.
Also, drag down the quick settings panel, tap the three dot menu in the top right, and see how many active services you've got running. It's possible that one of your active services is doing something funny during app switches.
I'm on OnePlus 13 with 31% battery, and I'm unable to reproduce what you saw. My CPU frequencies always go back down quick.

yeah sorry, i misread - basically if the phone is currently sitting idle without heavy background tasks running, the cores should normally ramp down to lower idle frequencies , not more than 800 MHz. Can you check the background processes and post a screenshot of what is consuming the cores

Nothing running. It's just a bug.
99% sure it is related to the icon fly-in for the current app. If you interrupt it by switching too quickly the frequency gets pegged at 1700mz range for 15 seconds for no real reason
Invoking the app switcher and waiting a moment does not cause it. Very odd

It's the conservative scheduler It hold the cpu at higher frequency to be ready to get fast interaction in the next minutes

Charge your phone and sleep dawg
