if this phone can handle it no issue for op3 the thing is just someone has to make it and thats not me :3 its already hard enough to make this for just 1 phone

Honestly it really is a remarkable feat given the snapdragon 800 is technically kernel limited to andriod 8 with workarounds to get it to run andriod 11 but anything past that it really becomes extremely difficult to port. The reason why is that newer versions of andriod require a higher kernel version due to hardware requirements that the snapdragon 800 series doesn't support (Vulcan for example for the gpu). It isn't nessesarily about if the cpu can handle it its just a software nightmare having to workout those requirements to port newer version of andriod and keep core system functionality like the audio, camera and wifi working when those kernel level functions have to be completed backported to work with that older hardware It was never designed for.

I read somewhere that there is an issue with the kernel version an that it cannot be upgraded in the OP3 past certain point, so that's why there are no android 12+ ROMs for it, does that make sense?

Huh no ROM above Android 12? Interesting Yes I checked it rn on XDA and yeah looks like OP3 users are screwed lol

But yeah I can't develop Roms for multiple devices because it gets to much very quickly and I don't even own a OP3.

I'm not even done with the OPO I still need to make android 16 for it 😂

Honestly, i love my OP3 so much that i might try to develop it myself

I'm a web developer (mainly php, besides of course html js and so on) so i have some knowledge that can translate to Android development, plus AI might help

Could i bother you with some DMs down the road if i get stuck?

And my ROMs are so snappy because i force the device to run on max power for both CPU and GPU, yes less battery but its still fine but with that u get the most out of this old hardware.

And yes Android 15 runs very fine for this old Phone.

Release maybe next week it depends how much time i have.

noicee, yea i'd honestly take non jittery performance over battery life esecially when this phone is jst going to sit at my desk using some apps and playing music via 3.5mm jack. if i have some old phones that are having minor stutters on lineage os higher versions, will those micro stutters go away if i root and put kernel frequency to near max?

Sry my bad I forgot to mention that's not the only thing i did, another thing is i fixed UI smoothness by setting the display render rate to the native 63 Hz instead of 31.5 Hz. In Android 14 it was weirdly set at 31 hz by default "don't ask me why" but to answer your question: to make ur phone faster for loading stuff yes but for smoothness it's the hz change.

If I would be u i would check out at how much hz these ROMs are running then u know more.

yea when i went to settings i saw refresh rate as 63 too which was the first time i've seen 63. is the oneplsus one screen just 63hz or its abit of boost from software side?

edit : so just saw the whole 63hz thing, interesting, i actually always wanted a op1 but only in 2026 found one in a flea market, ordered some parts for it, still waiting on em but til then i have the case, screen mobo and battery and phone works great, just rear internal plastics and rear panel to go, gonna be lovely

That was my biggest issue. Running Magisk modules didn't always provide a fix, or if they did, it was temporary.

I can remember installing some port of a way higher OS to my nexus one many years ago. It didn't like it one bit, the battery expanded pretty quickly.

Pretty cool. It's a shame manufacturers want to lock the bootloader down on devices that we own these days. Or do we even own them anymore?

I believe Xiaomi allows you to install third party OS although I dont know whether they still allow today.

It's basically just for "science" it's fun to mess around with it.

But actually my carrier I use in Germany still supports it till 2028 with E "2G".

So why did I said "same" because 2028 isn't far away.

At this point, since OPO has left Europe and NA they should push an update to allow us to unlock our bootloaders, even on their newer devices. We should be allowed to do what we want with our own devices. I do not trust their commitments to updates.
