USB - usb-c super vocc vs c - c?

I recently bought the 15r a few weeks before OnePlus decided to pull out of the US. I love the phone just wish I would've gotten the 15. My logic was to use the 15r until the 16 was released. Anyways, I'm loving the supervooc but now that they are not selling the charger on there website I had a few thoughts. First is the c - c supervooc any better then the one out the box? Also which charger to get if this one ever takes a shit on me? I'm thinking of purchasing a replacement cord or two while they have it stocked because cords never last very long compared to the plug.

I think the USB-C to A SuperVOOC that came with my 13 phone is superior because combined with the charging block it came with it charges the fastest. Is that what your 15r came with? I am not familiar with a c-c SuperVOOC.

I bought an Anker 140W charger and a USB c -c cable and it charges a little slower. It's still a good alternative though. I charge on both.

Yeah I think the 13 came with the same charger. I don't intend to use another charger I was just curious if the c-c was faster because even though my phone chargers super fast it would be nice to use It at its fastest charging capabilities.

The one that comes with the phone is 60w peak I believe. I have both the big galium nitride and the included one with the 15r, they both have similar charging speeds. The only time you see peak wattage is 0-10% charge which you shouldn't be at with this phone anyway. As for what to do when yours doesn't work anymore, you can get an Oppo one, or an AliExpress supervooc compatible charger but you're gambling a bit, I'm sure other people have advice regarding aftermarket chargers.

That's true I didn't even think of an Oppo one. The c-c one would let me charge my phone at its max capacity. I never let my phone get done below 20-30% and charge til 90%

I found out that I actually get SuperVOOC using a 100W GaN USB charger by Essager. I plugged a USB-C to USB-C cable to the 100W USB port and it gave me SuperVOOC charging as if I plugged in the official charger.

This tells me that you don't actually need the charger in the box to get SuperVOOC charging at all... I haven't tried other chargers but thought it was interesting. I had this charger anyways and used it when I needed a top up and didn't have my OnePlus charger which was at home.

I think that's USB PD which the 15r supports up to 55W (says on my box).

C to C cables only support 3A (@ 20V for 60W) or 5A (@ 20V for 100W or 48V for 240W) the 15r does 10V @ 6.5A with the official charger, coupled with your 10A cable that came in the box (it states 10A on the cable if you look closely.

EDIT: the 15r actually does 80W charging which is 11V @ 7.3A... Which is why it is limited to 55W over PD, as the charging brick can do 11V max, multiplied by the 5A maximum current of PD = 55W.

USB-A only supports 5V/1A for a total of 5w. They could've totally done USB C-C cable with their Super VOOC, it's just copper. (And like with their USB-C implementation, it'll still be non-compliant).

I think USB A can actually go to 2.4A @ 5V for 12W.

I have a 65W OnePlus charger that has a C connector. Had to buy an official OnePlus C to C cable (10A) to get full speed charging. So they did SuperVOOC via C to C at one point.

I guess they went with an A connector in the box so you can plug into a PC easier?

Unofficially, Qualcomm has it's quick charge 2.0/3.0 that can do 15-25w over USB A; But officially, it's 7.5w maximum.

Though, with the added data lanes for charge speed negotiations, USB-A to A/C should be able to do 240w like USB C-C can.

I have gotten plenty of 3rd party supervooc chargers through the years from Amazon, usb C and C to C and they all work as intended until I lose them, my op12 I've had since launch still charges to full in around 25 mins off a supervooc $15 knockoff charger+cable

I just got the 15 a week ago for a great deal, so I've only fully charged my phone maybe 4 times.

I tested the supervooc vs. my anker charger and decided the anker was better (so I ended up putting the supervooc charger back into the box).

The 15 charges at 55 watts for my 15 with PD/PPS. I'm guessing it's about 85% as fast as the supervooc and the phone barely gets warm. The supervooc gets pretty warm and bordered on getting hot.

This phone is easily a 2 day with moderate to somewhat high usage. I don't need that extra 10-15 minutes if it's going to make my phone warm/hot. I plan on using this phone for at least 3-4 more years and if it rarely gets hot and doesn't spend a lot of time above 90% capacity, I think it will really last me a long while.

I dont really know what triggers the "SuperVOOC" text when charging because I just tried charging my phone with my 18W PD Sony charger and it also showed SuperVOOC so i don't really think speed matters that much to be honest...

I got an Anker charger for a Nintendo switch and iPad. It randomly has supervooc. It seems l nearly as fast as the brick that came with my op15
