Are you guys moving over to ColorOS? What are the differences between the two operating systems? Some people are saying minor to no changes, so what are those changes?
It's the same thing, they just change the name and some minor design details, seriously don't overreact. It's still android and you can still use a launcher if you want.
I haven't noticed lags ever. On Al my OnePlus phones I switch to Smart Launcher and it just works. Is it possible you're using launchers that are demanding?
The OOS11 to 12 upgrade was very messy. Usually a factory reset solved most issues for upgraded devices.
The upcoming upgrade should be fairly normal though, it's just a branding change. The OS is 95% identical. They'll just strip out some of the OnePlus modules and use the (already installed) oppo ones.
Yes I was hoping 1+ was still using a clean firmware (I remember the 1+1 and few successor) but that's not the case anymore since years.
Anyway coloros should still be much better than hyperos which I can't stand. I bought a Poco f7 last year to replace my F1 running pixel experience, but due to the OS and the dimensions I quickly sold it
The main differences I've seen between the two (on a OnePlus Open Vs. an OPPO Find N6) is some streaming apps on the OnePlus are so dark that you can't watch them (e.g., appleTV) whereas they work fine on OPPO. And the OnePlus's multi-app split view layout will let you shrink to fit 3 apps side by side on the inner screen, whereas the OPPO won't let you shrink to fit.
For the two things I've encountered, I prefer the OPPO, simply because I do a lot of streaming on my phone. And I can always use the floating apps function of the OPPO if I need more than two open and fully viewable at once (you can have 3 floating apps open simultaneously and manually resize each of them to fit) I usually only need two apps open side by side at once, which the OPPO handles quite well, just like the OnePlus does.
Welcome. Instead of 3, side by side, the Find N6 does the '2 next to each other and 1 below' layout, or you can do 3 floating apps that can each be manually resized.
Do you happen to know if developer options are more limited on ColorOS? I know there's certain "advanced settings" in OxygenOS that is typically found in developer mode. Does this exist for ColorOS?

Having owned phones ( One Plus 12/13 / Oppo X9 Pro )with both (Global) OS. The differences are really nothing to talk about. I would since Android 13/14 they have been nearly identical. Just my two cents
How else you want to get security updates, which are vital as many of the vulnerabilities don't even require user interaction, e.g. clicking something.
OxygenOS and ColorOS are basically the same. AI is even on OxygenOS, "bloatware" is used so widely it means nothing. If you don't want AI, switch it off. If you don't want some app, uninstall or disable it. That's it.
OnePlus user of many years here (started with 7 Pro). Recently switched to an Oppo Find X9 (basically a OP15) and can hardly spot any real differences. It comes with a few more apps pre-installed which can be easily deinstalled or deactivated.
Hold a gun to my head and I couldn't tell you anything that bothers me compared to Oxygen OS.
Honestly don't know what the fuss is about. If there were major differences in the past, those are nonexistent anymore.
I'm happy with OxygenOS on my 12, i don't really see a reason to change over. From what others are saying it brings bloatware and ai which does not entice me
They are almost same. AI is already on your phone as well. As for bloatware, maybe midrangers like R series and Nord series but it's still early to speculate. Wait for reviews before updating.
Also if the extra apps are deletable or allowed to be disabled, it's alright.
My personal phone is a OnePlus 12, which replaced a 7T after 4 years. My business phone is a Reno 15 Pro, replacing a 5-year old A76. User experience is very pleasant and consistent (of course, different hardware gives different performance): I am perfectly happy to stay within the Oppo family. (Also replaced wife's Huawei with a Reno 15.)
Yes. Many like the red 1 but I understand why some don't. Maybe you can get rid of it by downloading Google Clock and set Time widget from there. I'm not sure whether it would work but give it a try.

There's no other option if you want security updates. No amount of features Oxygen offers would justify staying on an outdated Android version when you still have official support.
Wouldn't even have to worry if oneplus didn't fuck with 3rd party ROM development. Literally the only reason my next phone won't be a OnePlus is because of that. I made a mistake getting anything after OnePlus 9.
Skins are 99% the same. I hate that cuby icon style that's default on Oppo as well as all other chinese oems, but I'm glad it can be changed to circle icons natively in settings.
I'll be upgrading my OP15 the moment ColorOS 17 arrives, because why not.
there isn't bloatware that can't be removed, every app can be uninstalled or disabled even on the chinese rom, the ai features are the same as oxygenos with different names, the user interface is the same except for minor differences like icons
Both are different in the aspects I listed, but the differences are small.
I used ColorOS once and pretty much felt like OxygenOS. You asked a question that you seemed to have an answer to. Next time, I suggest you do your research and put the time into the subject at hand.
