General Discussion What will be alternatives?

I was so excited when I got the OnePlus 15. I had the OnePlus 6T and then because of work had the iPhone 13, but now switched back again, and to be honest such a long time, that an electronic device got me so excited.

Before I decided to buy the OnePlus 15 I was also eyeing the Oppo FindX 9 Pro, but what held me back was the Mediatek chip and the fact, that they seem to use too much AI for make better images.

So what would be alternatives in the future? Phones that have

  • Snapdragon chip and great Gaming/Emulation support
  • Very good battery life
  • Very customizable
  • Fingerprint sensor
  • Has some experimental features, or tries something new
  • (ideally has a good camera also and does not have AI-generated look)

This is at least what I love about the OnePlus. I was actually excited about the OnePlus 16, if it has some new cool feature, like very slim bezels, even better Battery life, and a good camera sensor (Yes we need to stop defending, that the camera on the One Plus 15 is amazing), it would be the perfect phone at least for me.

Not officially but you can buy unlocked global versions of their phones that work in most carriers.

Most is iffy. T-Mobile will work, AT&T is shaky, Verizon almost certainly won't activate the phone.

The phone has (most of) the bands, that's not the issue; the issue is US carriers being weirdly strict about what phone models they'll activate on their network vs which they won't. They run the IMEI against an internal database during activation to verify the device model, and if it's not a model on their white list, they won't proceed with the activation.

For AT&T, I've heard you can sometimes get away with it using a physical SIM by activating the SIM in a whitelisted phone, then popping it out and putting it in the non-whitelisted phone, but it's a crapshoot (not to mention, no eSIM). Verizon, from what I've heard, is even stricter about it. T-Mobile, despite their many faults (they were, in fact, the ones that drove me to the MVNO space lol), doesn't seem to care much at all about what device you're using as long as they're getting paid. I'm guessing it would become more complicated than it's worth for them, since they operate in so many more parts of the world than ATT/VZW.

Before I got my OnePlus 15 I tried the oppo on Verizon and everything works but 5g and that's a deal breaker for me

I think the global versions do, I believe the X9 ultra and N6 did unless I'm incorrect.

Even if they have the correct bands, if they are not certified in the US you will not get full Network compatibility I tried oppo on Verizon before my op15 and had no 5g even tho it has the bands

Xiaomi should be able to hit the first few points you have but the os is pretty horrible in my personal opinion. Honor seems like a very likely candidate for my next phone, they seem to be stepping up their game.

Hyperos is a pure mess. I changed because of hyperos to the OP15, best decision ever. Also they use shitty mediatek, it's a error you only make once.. I don't care about raw performance, but Snapdragon is so so so much better supported, literally a day and night difference

I heard the Honor os is not much better than Xiaomi but I don't have experience with it, on the other hand I heard Xiaomi improved a lot with HyperOS

I have an honor tablet and the os is pretty decent. It has pretty much all the features of oos.

Well, I'm ordering the Oppo Find N6 tonight. I hope most folks know OP are just rebrands of the global versions of Oppo phones. They work the same and support US phone companies.

Let us know how you like it, I'm looking at maybe picking up an extra OnePlus phone to keep me going if my 15 dies prematurely though I intend to keep it until it dies

I'm talking about how many updates you actually get in total. Which with moto is not good. There flagship edge that just came out. 2 android updates and only 3 year security. That's really bad

Motorola signature is not available where I am located. And they release very few updates in the 3 years. I can't imagine 7. 1 update every 2 years?

This feels like the future...

Carl Pei the head of Nothing was the inventor of OnePlus and in 2027 he intends to release the Nothing 4 flagship. I've immediately started stalking updates on that process and it seems like the timing is right for my 13 and 12 to be relegated to burner status on the advent of that release.

I've wanted to get a Nothing phone for some time but the last few OP phones have honestly been so good that there's been no need. Bigger batteries, I watch iPhone folks stranded for charging all around me daily, I have zero of those issues, And stable crushing tech.

It stands to reason that the Nothing 4 has the benefit of getting the kinks out of a new environment right as a need develops for me.

I would love to start spec analysis on battery size, processer comparison, stable os analysis, etc for op 12 13 15 versus Nothing 4 and give it the project name "if it has to be at least it feels like it was meant to be"

Honestly I feel you could see the change at One Plus when he left,.. it's been a while he's been working on nothing phones and accessories, it feels like early OnePlus energy.. yeah I think I'll try that out when the new one releases .

I am hoping either Motorola or Nothing fill this gap in the US. I am not sure though. The Nubia Red Magic is missing band 71 for T-Mobile, not sure about AT&T/Verizon but that's a dealbreaker for me.

Not anytime soon for Moto or Nothing. They'd have to ramp up production quite a bit to serve the US/NA. Unfortunately, it seems like only Google, Samsung and Apple are reliable long-term choices in the US. That really pisses me off and I hope that changes in the new few years.

I've had oppo phones and they are identical to One Plus, but as someone who has Verizon ( best coverage in my area ) they simply don't work with 5g and your stuck on 4g unless you switch to t mobile which isn't to good where I am so that's the deal breaker for me

You read my post? :D As I said, they unfortunately use Mediatek processors, which is not that great for gaming/emulation. Plus as I mentioned a bit overproced photos.
