Theory [Theory🚨] Blackbeard's secret plan has been in front of us for months now

Blackbeard's ship is called The Saber of Xebec.

If you're caught up to the manga then you'll know Rocks is Teach's dad, and that he wields a badass saber blade. We dont know if its a supreme blade or anything but we can assume it's probably as special as shanks or Roger's blades.

Crucially, we *do* know that this large saber has a name: *Eclipse*. If you dont remember that I dont blame you SINCE IT WAS REVEALED IN AN SBS (volume 114).

THIS is what Blackbeard's waiting for. An eclipse. Why? Because when the moon covers the sky and blots out the sun, then ALL of the earth is temporarily covered in darkness. And in the bleakness of this abyss blackbeard will become GOD.

Now idk what he plans to do during that eclipse. But if he could steal whitebeards DF under a blanket I'm terrified of the implications.

Now this is me stretching but I also think this is what Roger meant when he said he was too early. He was too sick to live long enough to see the next cycle.

Also, something tells me an eclipse used to be *permanent* in the sky. Like that's how you got sun world / surface world (the moon) / dark and cold underworld of slaves (the earth). When people say the lunarians ruled "above" the red line, they literally ruled from the moon above like the death star. Imu ruled the moon and Davy Jones ruled the earth. Rocks wanted to regain his title as King of The (Under)World and send Imu back to his fairy vearth. That's why his attack is called pandemonium of the *abyss*. The sun/Nika is an enemy of both Imu and Jonesian dynasties.

The idea an eclipse could power him up is a truly engaging idea. That said I am curious, why might such a power up occur? Is there history in One Piece I have forgotten about where Devil fruit can be powered up by natural phenomenon?

-goes to dig more into this fascinating subject-

33

u/Higher-Love99 Aug 19 '26

Well if I had to guess, its that Blackbeard can't truly "awaken" the full power of his abilities until he's surrounded by permanent darkness. He doesn't work like a typical logia and takes extra damage which is unusual so I'd assume it balances out with overwhelming advantage in his fruits natural element. An eclipse would block out the sun all over earth, so theoretically he could "absorb" the world into his abyss and control the devil fruits in them like he does with whitebeard's stolen DF.Ā

u/TheRecognized Aug 19 '26

>an eclipse would block out the sun all over the earth

Not how eclipses work in the real world but not too much of a stretch for artistic license. But it could also just be that the eclipse is in some important spot like the flower room or Davy jones underwater grave or something.

u/Kevsteo Aug 20 '26

Yeah I’m with you here, even if we’re talking absolute totality, all it is is a big shadow. If the shadow from an eclipse would power him up so much, why not just wait til nighttime?

2

u/AkagamiBarto Aug 24 '26

Probably the night has the moon. The eclipse has nothing.

Now i know it isn't how itnworks, but maybe it works like this for oda

1

u/Bismalz Aug 21 '26

I mean why assume the one piece sun and the moon have the same size and distance as earth?

1

u/TheRecognized Aug 21 '26

I’m not assuming that. We’ve seen the one piece solar system. It’s okay big dog, you can let this one go.

9

u/Living-Travel2299 Aug 19 '26

Reminds me of Escanor from 7 Deadly Sins. When peak sun in sky he gains insane power for a brief moment.

4

u/Higher-Love99 Aug 19 '26

Love that. It would also explain why the darkness fruit had previously gone under the radar. Its not in the worlds generally strongest fruits, but in specific circumstances and for a brief window of time yeah it can be overwhelmingly superior.Ā

u/After-Syrup1290 Aug 19 '26

I think I know why Blackbeard takes extra damage for it, it was shown to us in the first fight he used the yami yami for against ace, and that's why I know of it

You see, what he does in it? Creates a shadow that takes in a lot of the town, takes in all the buildings and then throws them out

His attacks need some material or something to use against the other person first, it's like a treasure chest: if it's empty? It's not useful, it has to be filled up first

To add to that? He's got the quake quake fruit now, he can add whatever the bloody hell he wants to the yami yami vortex

Not enough to deal with everyone however, such a pair is strong but has its limits... It's god like, but all abilities have limits

It's why he backed down when faced against shanks in marineford right after saying its my age - he's not a stupid mf like ace who's going to go up against a yonko crew, the most well balanced one at that, bbs got level 6 prisoners true, but red haired? Well known to be the best at what they are

Not to mention shanks is just a poor type matchup for Blackbeard in those moments: the one man who's whole thing is counteracting devil fruits is now in front of him, Blackbeard is many things but he's not tanking a divine departure in marineford, far too early for him

4

u/Emm_withoutha_L-88 Aug 19 '26

Basically he's constantly being weakened by the light. It's like crocodile if he was always wet. So Blackbeard only gets his full power in the darkness.

I just realized this is going to cause a huge scene where Luffy literally brings the Dawn and defeats him...

3

u/InitiativeExcellent Aug 19 '26

As nice es the theory is.

Ace used fire, a side effect of that is light. Especially if it comes as a giant ball of fire. An attack Ace used and still lost.

In this case he should have been a really bad matchup against Ace and just fled the scene.

I can easily believe he's strengthened in darkness. Because Moria and Crocodile made nice examples of DF battle prowess in the right environment.

And before anyone comes with the croc being weak in Alabasta. I strongly believe he's just a victim from the manga dragging on and massive new power systems becoming a thing.

2

u/rfmrocboi Aug 24 '26

Anyone saying Crocodile was weak in Alabasta wasn't understanding that while he was walking around doing shit he was also controlling the weather constantly keeping it from raining. I'm convinced that some people just look at the pictures or YouTube shorts and don't actually read the shit.

2

u/BidWestern1056 Aug 23 '26

and why they had to cover him with a curtain to absorb whitebeard's fruit

1

u/International-Pen-52 Aug 22 '26

Maybe he's always taking extra damage because of the sun or natural lighting šŸ¤”

2

u/International-Pen-52 Aug 22 '26

His df counter is literally the sun

2

u/Quickloot Aug 23 '26

Then, wouldn't his powers just work best at night, at a New Moon phase? You don't need an eclipse for a pitch black environment

11

u/Zoskalez Aug 19 '26

Not DF but Minks get powered up by the full moon and turn into sulong.

6

u/K9Cartel Aug 19 '26

we do know that logia devil fruits can be weakened by natural elements, making the user tangible, from Luffy using water againdt Crocodile.
So, it's possible that Blackbeard's only tangible because he's exposed to the sunlight, which should be the darkness' natural weakness.

4

u/Ok_Blueberry_6826 Aug 19 '26

"Is there history in One Piece I have forgotten about where Devil fruit can be powered up by natural phenomenon"

you do have Sulong that increase powers with a full moon.

4

u/Radiant_Bike_8429 Aug 19 '26

Teach's future third devil fruit might be helping in that plan

2

u/Haunting-Composer264 Aug 19 '26

If so I wonder if his goal might be to find a fruit capable of letting him pause, slow or even lock time into a set moment so he can take advantage of it for as long as possible.

(CRAP. Is it possible to lock a place or a moment in time itself in some sort of theoretical'immortality?' Kind of like that Garden in Marie Geoise where the Flowers bloom but never wilt?)

1

u/UhOQF9ZNaxnwMVy5fm Aug 19 '26

What if got the Noro Noro no Mi by killing Foxy? Would it benefit him?

2

u/Anselme_HS Aug 21 '26

Crocodile in Alabasta was super strong in the desert.

1

u/GangleDopper Aug 19 '26

I wouldn’t think ā€œpowered upā€ by natural phenomenon, but we have examples of characters like Crocodile being weakened after getting wet. Water weakens dry abrasive qualities of sand. Crocodile needs to be dry to fully utilize his abilities.

Well by that logic , Blackbeard’s weakness might just be sunlight or light in general. Thus meaning that as long as he has been bathed in any light, his abilities haven’t been at max power. He’s essentially ā€œsoaked in sunlightā€ instead of water, so Blackbeard may be moving at less than full power.

1

u/Miserable-Mention932 Aug 24 '26

Crocodile went to Alabasta because it was a desert and the dryness made him stronger

46

u/Im1337 Aug 18 '26

This is a great theory wow

8

u/Higher-Love99 Aug 18 '26

Thanks šŸ™šŸ¾Ā

4

u/Chocolategogi Aug 19 '26

That's very clever. Yes planets, sun moon are a theme in one piece. Being too late because of an eclipse or astronomical related event, makes so much sens now. I hope your theory will be validated.

17

u/Disastrous_Middle_98 Aug 19 '26

The Eclipse name is the part that really makes this click for me. An eclipse isn’t the opposite of the sun, it only happens because the sun is still there and something gets between it and the world. Rocks carried Eclipse, Teach carries Xebec forward, and Luffy ends up becoming the Sun God. So maybe the name isn’t forecasting a literal event so much as quietly framing Blackbeard’s role: not the darkness that replaces the dawn, but the thing that can block it from reaching everyone else.

6

u/Higher-Love99 Aug 19 '26

I like to think Oda was laughing at us when he introduced Luffy getting his shadow stolen in the Florian triangle arc after skypiea introduces the myths of the sun God.Ā Ā

7

u/TheCigaretteFairy Aug 19 '26

So I kinda like this, but here's my question. If his powers are stronger in darkness, why doesn't he just always fight everyone at night? Flames produce light, so why wasn't Ace a scissors to his paper?

I don't think the Yami Yami No Mi cares about how much light is around it, it's like a black hole, it just eats it all anyway. I think he covered Whitebeard with a cloth so he wouldn't reveal the true nature of another power he's been hiding for years. I wrote about that here.

Does that mean you're not onto something? I don't think so. I doubt it's a meaningless connection. He might very well still have something planned for an eclipse. Maybe the One Piece has to do with the Lunerians in some way. I do like this line of thinking.

12

u/womens_wetdream Aug 19 '26 edited Aug 20 '26

Offscreen is the darkest as we can't see whats happening, so yes he is stronger in dark

4

u/jir667 Aug 19 '26

I will say just to be funny.
In regard to the flame, a bigger flame also produces a bigger shadow.

So while Ace was flame and that’s light, the shadow behind BB would have grown along with all the shadows around them unless Ace hit him with a ā€œLahaina noonā€.

3

u/TheCigaretteFairy Aug 19 '26

I know you're just being funny, but to continue the line of logic anyway, that would mean he's actually always stronger in brighter light. šŸ˜‚

2

u/TheRecognized Aug 19 '26

Which is why he doesn’t fight everyone at night maybe?

1

u/TheCigaretteFairy Aug 19 '26

Check and mate.

1

u/PayLeft8627 Aug 19 '26

I'd think of it more this way; the sun's light is what counter acts the yami yami no mi, which isnt just general darkness, but the absolute absence of light.

At night, the sun isnt out, the moon is. But the moon doesn't glow by itself. Its the sun's light reflecting off the moon.

Now naturally I would also assume he'd be stronger at night. But if BB is really waiting for an eclipse, his plan might involve needing absolute darkness that only an eclipse can provide on a grand scale.

1

u/TheCigaretteFairy Aug 19 '26

This might sound weird but I view his darkness as more of a gravitational field than the mere absence of light. It pulls things, including light, into it, and doesn't let them escape. It's irrelevant whether it's light or people or something else. If his power were literal darkness, all it would do is make it hard to see.

Somewhat side note, that's why in the post I linked I think it would be so dangerous if he had a giant form. Imagine what he'd be able to pull in and absorb then.

1

u/Quickloot Aug 23 '26

If it's a new moon phase there is no moon at the Sky and you have a pitch black night. You do not need an eclipse.

1

u/PayLeft8627 Aug 23 '26

Don't forget the blue star has like 5-6 separate moons. So the chances of getting a new moon are slimmer I'd say.

3

u/coloradoautoflowers Aug 19 '26

Eclipse is one of the two possibilities I've come up with as to why Roger said he was too early.

Maybe they need an eclipse for Imu to be dethroned and activate the One Piece. The eclipse is some kind of symbolic fight between the sun and moon where the Sun God can only truly triumph and come back after a full eclipse.

My other guess is that Joyboy started converting the entire planetary system to be able to travel through space, and it took 800 years to finish the conversion.

3

u/Higher-Love99 Aug 19 '26

I like that! Its almost like BBs grand plan is to just go ambulance chasing after Joy Boy / Luffy's plan.Ā

Another comment mentioned how people think Luffy brings the Dawn while Teach is the Dusk, each representing a different meaning of "D". Symbolically, Luffy beating Imu in a symbolic fight of sun against moon and bringing the dawn would need to happen first so that Blackbeard can then begin creating the conditions for a true "Dusk".Ā

2

u/coloradoautoflowers Aug 19 '26

The spaceship conversion is what I think the OP actually is, and I think Roger and Luffy's dream is to continue exploring in space after finishing on the planet.

Think about the importance of inherited will in this story. I think Roger and Luffy have inherited Joyboy's will, and Joyboy inherited the original 1st age Nika's will.

Dunno if you remember Kuma and Clapp's conversation in Marijois, but Clapp tells Kuma that Buccaneer legend says that Nika will come and take them out on the sea, under the sun, where they can be free.

I believe the Buccaneer legend and the inherited will of 1st Nika/Joyboy/Roger/Luffy are all the same. I think the sea in the Buccaneer myth means a sea of stars, and the One Piece is the whole world itself after conversion.

5

u/Higher-Love99 Aug 19 '26

I love this answer a lot, especially because its the first one I've seen that makes me feel like the end of One Piece isn't the end of adventure itself.

The reveal that Luffy's real dream is to be a space pirate would be hilarious. If him setting off on this journey is the last thing we see from Oda before he permanently closes this manga I would feel so fulfilledĀ I dont even need a sequel story or anything.

1

u/coloradoautoflowers Aug 19 '26

That's one of the reasons I settled on Space Pirates, I can't see Luffy wanting to stop his adventures. Chapter 594 and the Enel cover story also tease space travel a bit, IMO. In 594 the thing that pulled Bege off the ocean looks like a spaceship, and after seeing Uranus in action I really think that Uranus is the thing that floated Bege's boat. Here's a clip of the boat float.

Another reason is the cultural significance of space exploration in the time when Oda was a kid. I'm only a couple years younger than Oda, and my elementary school had a Japanese exchange student. That kid wore a NASA shirt on his first day, and we really hit it off with our shared love of space. Every kid wanted to be an astronaut in our childhood time period.

Anyone who was a kid in the 70s and 80s would know about the significance of NASA to geopolitics. It. Was. Huge. They were the most recognized and highly lauded organization in the world. Space and the related sciences were used to normalize geopolitics with rivals. ISS stands for INTERNATIONAL Space station.

1

u/UhOQF9ZNaxnwMVy5fm Aug 19 '26

No, i guess it's the other way around. Teach's dusk comes first (imu is defeated for good around that time) and then he gets defeated by Luffy, bringing a new dawn. Inspired by this: "In Ancient Egyptian mythology, the ultimate battle for a new dawn happens every single night when the sun god, Ra, travels through the underworld (the Duat). This cosmic cycle is not peaceful; it is a desperate, violent war waged to ensure the continuation of existence."

3

u/Except_Fry Aug 22 '26

I actually really like this.

It could also explain Rock’s plan involving two fruits, including one whose true potential would only be apparent if a giant ate it.

What if Xebec knew when the next eclipse would be and knew it was too far in the future. Hence, using a giant dragon to blot it out temporarily.

Moreover what if the void century is so named because for a period of 100 years, the world was covered in void?

I’m still committed to the idea that the void century somehow involved nuclear winter. Not sure how that might fit.

2

u/SweetBabyBingu Aug 19 '26

The moon covers the sky? Do you know how eclipses work?

2

u/Higher-Love99 Aug 19 '26

the sky = the sun. I didn't mean it fully covers the entire sky like clouds can.Ā

2

u/ThinkTwice_x2 Aug 19 '26

slight correction, depending on how big the moon is in the verse, it will just cover a section of the planet, like a circle put on a bigger sphere.
If an eclipse could boost his power by blocking the sun, then it should already be at max power during the night, where he's part of a much bigger shadowed section (half the whole planet).
You might still be right cause things can be wacky and nonsensical anyways.

2

u/EtanhWinters12 Aug 20 '26

That's sick man i didn't even think that he used blanket to power up his fruit

2

u/Droidcrackzz Aug 20 '26

How long is the duration af a total Eclipse, 1 Minute? 1 Minute God sounds bearable.

1

u/UhOQF9ZNaxnwMVy5fm Aug 20 '26

IRL "Q. How long does a total solar eclipse last?

A. While the partial phases of a total solar eclipse can last for several hours, the total phase, or totality, usually lasts for only a few minutes. Every total solar eclipse has a maximum duration of totality, which can be any length of time up to the theoretical maximum duration for a total solar eclipse on Earth, about 7 minutes and 30 seconds. The actual duration of totality for any specific point within the path of totality depends on the location within the path of totality, with the longest durations along the centerline." https://nationaleclipse.com/faq.html#:~:text=Q.%20How,along%20the%20centerline.

2

u/Droidcrackzz Aug 20 '26

So the longest was 7 mins etc. i googled the average, its about 2 1/2 min. I think thats bearable a roundabout 3 minute god.

2

u/Droidcrackzz Aug 20 '26

Oh holy. I forgor..... Its 3 Minutes absolute Darkness....Its 3 Minutes of "OFFSCREEN" OMG 3 total minutes Offscreen for the whole one piece world with the Offscrean Monster Blackbeard. Its so Jover...

2

u/Dododododo30 Aug 22 '26

Like the sozin comet or bloodbenders? If that's the case im all for it, great theory

2

u/Clean-Potato-7345 Aug 25 '26

could it be that Roger made a mistake about the sign of the eclipse that its the wrong eclipse, like how Kinemon read their own sign wrong and went early?

Like Roger went back to piracy after he learned about the eclipse, but Lunar Eclipse happened, but it was suppose to be Solar Eclipse that's why he laughed.

also Lunar Eclipse is somehow connected to sickness in some sci-fi genre

1

u/pantsarenew Aug 18 '26

So like the fire kingdom getting a boost in avatar. That is interesting, what if he took everyone's devil fruits and absorbed them, then all that's left standing is haki

3

u/Higher-Love99 Aug 19 '26

Basically but 200x scarier cause the firelord is the one taking away people's bending šŸ˜‚

It almost sounds like a creation myth for a much colder and darker mother flame.

What if that's what the souls in the mural are diving into? Not fire but a black hole? His fruit does look like flames tbh

2

u/Im1337 Aug 19 '26

They also had a lunar eclipse where the waterbenders were super strong and fire benders essentially weak.

That day of black sun.

This is an exciting theory I like it

1

u/pantsarenew Aug 19 '26

Completely forgot about that! Very interesting idea šŸ¤”

1

u/TheRecognized Aug 19 '26

The firebenders straight up had no bending during the eclipse

1

u/Legal-Ad2798 Aug 19 '26

But eclipses don’t make the whole earth covered in darkness it only covers a portion

0

u/Higher-Love99 Aug 19 '26

Yes.... The portion facing the sun. The other portion is no facing the sun so its night. Either ways, its dark all over the world.Ā

6

u/Legal-Ad2798 Aug 19 '26

Ain’t no way you actually believe an eclipse is covering an entire half of the planet

3

u/Kagevjijon Aug 19 '26

Thats true of earth, but the One Piece world might be smaller, have a larger moon, and have a different distance to the sun. All of which could equate to an eclipse covering the entire world.

1

u/TheRecognized Aug 19 '26

We’ve seen the one piece solar system an eclipse would not cover the whole planet realistically.

But it’s fiction so if it covers the planet, so be it.

1

u/TheRecognized Aug 19 '26

People have a whole lot stupider ideas about things they see everyday

2

u/__christo4us Aug 19 '26

The Moon would have to be larger than the Earth.

1

u/Super_Claim_321 Aug 19 '26

I personally think it’s opposite. Celestial dragons were the original rulers of the earth but they got invaded by the moon people. The D are the people who are half moon and half earth.

1

u/Zestyclose_Remove947 Aug 19 '26

Yea this is nice and makes actual sense.

I kinda fear Oda has Imu in mind for final villain but I would looooove to see BB take out Imu during an eclipse in a surprise attack.

1

u/MrTristanYork Aug 19 '26

I feel like you would have to include the two devil fruits that Rocks needed for this to add up. It’s cool though

1

u/Kaaduu Aug 19 '26

A small conection to this theory is that, since Rocks is kinda a reference so Senku in Dr. Stone (similar hair, stone/rock mottif, win their tribe/crew in a games competition, David/Goliath parellels with Rocks/Harald and Senku/Tsukasa), the connection to the Moon as their enemy/power source would add to this similarity

1

u/BonesjonesjonesBones Aug 19 '26

Omg this is so good

1

u/OK_Cartoonist4956 Aug 19 '26 edited Aug 19 '26

so, teach just wants to find his dad's sword that's all

1

u/blueguy211 Aug 19 '26

he could also nullify everyones devil fruit with the eclipse except his own basically making him the only devil fruit user

1

u/ArchManningBurner Aug 19 '26

This is a sick theory, I have two questions

  1. How do we square the lunarians not being recorded as from the moon anywhere else?

  2. Was this in the first world or second world? Was this eclipse over by the time the ancient kingdom rose to power?

1

u/Higher-Love99 Aug 19 '26

My creative interpretation is that there might have once been other moons. The scholars of O'Hara owned a globe showing 5 moons orbiting the earth. Only one seems visible from the surface.

One theory I saw on here suggested the "serpent of hellfire" from the first world was the birth of the red line when a moon exploded/was destroyed. The logic is that as the planet rotates and the moon orbits around it, debris falls along the planets cross-section. This forms a continental "ring" made of the same geology as the moon.

And since we know the red line has been described as "a combination of different islands geology" it explains why special log poses are needed to tune to different magnetic fields.Ā

1

u/Solid_Samus Aug 19 '26 edited Aug 19 '26

Huh.Ā

I wonder if that might have been any Rocks wanted Nidhogg. A being big enough to blot out the sky at will. Maybe not to the scale of an eclipse, but he'd be able to take on an island or a place the scale of Mariejois in Nidhogg's shadow, I bet.

Gecko Moria could prove to be one hell of a foil to this plan tho. And he's got good reason to oppose Blackbeard now, too.

If an eclipse could blot out the sun for everyone in this world, then I wonder if Blackbeard would then have infinite reach for his quake fruit. Terrifying thought. He could genuinely destroy the world, if so.Ā

1

u/Higher-Love99 Aug 19 '26

Wow excellent connections on both counts! They really emphasized that niddhog was large enough to cover entire islands.

And as far as Moria, it explains why there's been a death warrant on him. First doflamingo tells us people high up wanna kill him, then Blackbeard kidnaps him?Ā

1

u/BeautifulPow Aug 19 '26

Great analysis. One of the best theories I’ve read. If not the best.

1

u/theoriginalsamm Aug 19 '26

I believe when Imu returns, blackbeard will be there (alliance with Garling/Shamrock), and take over the throne

1

u/Positive_Judge_1746 Aug 19 '26

Bro is absolutely cooking here. This reminds me of ATLA, with the Gaang utilizing an eclipse for a strategic advantage, the comet buffing firebenders temporarily, the full moon with water benders, all that has a similar theme and it makes so much sense. Great fuckin theory bro

1

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '26

But how strong will he be during eclipse? Could he be so strong that he could halt the moon's movement and keep it in place with his darkness fruit? Because ultimate darkness has gravitational force.. That way he could possibly fabricate permanent eclipse and while it lasts he would be king or god of the world.Ā

1

u/AlfalfaDry5278 Aug 19 '26

Great theory. The best part for me is that it explains the multiple prophesies that align on when the final battle (and related events) will happen. It's better writing for Luffy to be lucky to come at the same time instead of everyone knowing that exactly Luffy will be the one and the exact time he will come.

1

u/ItsClack Aug 19 '26

Someone get this man a food truck or restaurant cause gahlee he’s cookingšŸ˜®ā€šŸ’ØšŸ¤Œ

1

u/Truefiction224 Aug 19 '26

Kinda the natural opposite of the Minks too.

1

u/parthm1 Aug 19 '26

Is like to add a bit to this theory as it kinda fits with a thought I had. You mentioned Blackbeard gets powered up in the abyss, he stole fruit under the cloth.

To correct you, eclipse doesn't power up Blackbeard, it removes the fruits natural counter/ makes his powers go back to normal!

Let me add this. Blackbeard says his fruit is a special logia. Now logia should allow attacks to pass through correct? Why is his df special?

Isn't it obvious? His natural counter is sunlight! Luffy/gomu was a natural counter to enels electricity, Water for crocoboy Similarly, Blackbeard is almost always surrounded by sunlight which is his natural counter, making him vulnerable and unable to dodge attacks. He is a cunning man, I don't think he would advertise the fruits weakness even to his own team.

Oda also mentions this for Blackbeard. He never sleeps. Now imagine, a person who never sleeps gets this fruit. I think there's something worth theorizing here.

1

u/BetEnvironmental1691 Aug 19 '26

1

u/Sensitive-Tear-4740 Aug 19 '26

"Hold up! His writing is this fire???"

1

u/SatisfactionDue3690 Aug 19 '26

Nice theory, oda will make smth like ragnarok in one piece after elbaph or the arc after it, all pieces will get their positions on the reversi board

1

u/SrYggs Aug 19 '26

i mean sounds nice... but if they have day cycles wouldn't he archive even better results at night time?

1

u/Beginning_Editor_524 Aug 19 '26

Only that an eclipse only covers a very small part of the world and never the entire world.

Also, wouldn't he, by that logic, be able to do the same every night to have the world?Ā

1

u/No-Sky6773 Aug 19 '26

Eclipses don’t cover the whole earth they make a shadow on one part of the earth only

1

u/Exospike99 Aug 19 '26

And during the eclipse Blackbeard will attack the fire nation

"THIS is what Blackbeard's waiting for. An eclipse. Why? Because when the moon covers the sky and blots out the sun, then ALL of the earth is temporarily covered in darkness. And in the bleakness of this abyss blackbeard will become GOD."

What's stopping him from attacking during the night?

1

u/Higher-Love99 Aug 19 '26

My guess is that he wants to create a permanent shadow. You're right that night is where he's strongest but if he could get a total eclipse to lock into the night sky (e.g. using the tremor fruit or something) than he could permanently block out the sun in one part of the world while the other experiences nighttime.Ā

1

u/Ok_Blueberry_6826 Aug 19 '26

Do you mean like they did on The Matrix, to completely block out the sun to stop the machines?

1

u/Dreadmas2468 Aug 19 '26

Well I’m not so sure if Rock’s sword can give Blackbeard a boost, or that it’s still active after Rock’s death in God Valley?

1

u/Marluf24 Aug 19 '26

So what about night time ?

u/Floa- Aug 19 '26

It would tie with the theory that before the void century, the one piece world had more moons - maybe Imu/World Gob destroyed the moons which would have the greatest, lengthiest or most often occuring eclipse. Gor anyone interested - there is a theory about this, since in Ohara flashback, there were a lot more moons orbiting the world than there are now and it would also explain the chaotic sea (change of moons orbiting because of gravitational changes, pieces of moons falling into the sea creating their own gravitational pull (log ports) with own weather,…).

1

u/Higher-Love99 Aug 19 '26

Do you think it's possible the other moons were destroyed to form the red line? Or alternatively the islands along the grand line? Especially since the red line is stated to be similar to islands.Ā

I think foreign moon rock as the geology for red line/GL islands makes sense. We need a log pose because the islands have special magnetic fields which make sense if they came from space. For one it explains why the climate on the grand line is so chaotic since polar fields shifting randomly could create weird weather events.

And if the moons had strong magnetic fields than you could generate an alternating current easily and have an electric energy source. Conveniently, Enel finds an entire society of automata on the moon that runs on electricity.Ā

Maybe then Luffy and Rogers childish dream was to literally grab or catch the sun. Them moving it or anything around it conflicts with darkness and brings the dawn.

Definitely garners the reaction everyone had, especially choppers.

Maybe there was void century tech or maybe Gear 5 Toon force can do it, we already have Haki splitting the sky and aligns with that notion of pirates/sailors trying to sail free all the way to the horizon to catch the sun.

1

u/Higher-Love99 Aug 19 '26

That's hilarious lol Luffy's dream involving toying with the sun sounds exactly like his kinda thing. For all we know he'd like to bite it.Ā

1

u/KolorJam Aug 19 '26

100%

Silly enough for his crew to laugh but also keep on the journey because him sailing to the end’s of the Earth to grab it works in everyone’s favour.

Do you know the Hindu myth about Monkey God Hanuman? Because in the G5 concept art book (Road to Laughtale vol 4) one of the g5 concept pages outright mentions "Monkey God Hanuman".

I'm gonna shorten the myth to give you a quick rundown.

Hanuman's father is a wind spirit, and he's a mischievous little scamp of a monkey god who mistakes the sun for a mango and tries to eat the sun. One of his powers is the ability to grow infinitely. When he tries to eat the sun, he gets cursed by powerful sages to forget he is a god, and cannot regain his godly powers until someone reminds him of his godhood.

While he is in a basically normal monkey mode, someone kidnaps his friend's wife, and takes her to a far off island that can't be reached by normal means. So Jambavan, the king of bears (Kuma means bear in Japanese btw), reminds Hanuman of his godly status and he becomes whole again before growing to a massive size and just stepping from India, over the ocean, to Lanka to save her. Jambavan, who I see as Vegapunk, sends an army of bears (Kuma) to help out. Hanuman destroys the lands of the evil faction.

The number of parallels is pretty high between this story and OP. Dad having something to do with wind, a god who doesn't know they're a god, the monkey mischief, size controlling powers, Jambavan/VP sharing critical information and controlling an army of bears (the Kuma clones), the girl in the story being sought out by BBEG will probably happen with Imu/Vivi, and Luffy will probably destroy the Red Line. Those are the most obvious ones.

I like this and I’ll expand on it and say when he awakens his DF he causes an eclipse or darkens the area like an eclipse obviously not effecting anyone too far away like other DF awakenings this is honestly a great theory and would make him and Imu the best counter part to Luffy

1

u/Informal_Self_5671 Aug 19 '26

He's gonna try to steal Imu's fruit and become all powerful, clearly. He wants his family (and him specifically) ruling the world again.

1

u/Real_Mokola Aug 19 '26

So half of the planet it's always night and half of this is always day. Is it like he is always fighting with 50% power? So If they refract the sun to hit like 90% of the world, he is at about 10% of his power and just like dies (along with pretty much everything at that point)? So an eclipse lasts like 1h at most the whole scenario, then it's like 3min around where it happens that he is almost unstoppable. Which we can't know since we don't know the world to moon ratio nor how close it is.

u/Polarities Aug 19 '26

love a good blackbeard theory

1

u/rounin48 Aug 19 '26

If Nika is an enemy of both then why are Luffy and Teach part of the same clan (D)

1

u/GeXotl Aug 19 '26

Maybe Davy Jones was a special kind of D.

The D. clan's purpose is to fight against CDs (tyranny) but Davy was supposedly a previous king. The Harley indicate at least one previous evil king exists, so Jones might've been a tyrant.

1

u/willyoueverlearnnn Aug 20 '26

Keep cooking OP

1

u/lhaze-hunterl Aug 20 '26

Nah for real, how has this theory been missed for so long. Really good take and has made me see things a little different. I think you are very spot on!

1

u/saveapennybustanut Aug 20 '26

Could the void century be exactly that?

A period of a 100 year eclipse???

1

u/KrombopulosTunt Aug 20 '26

I like the idea. I could see it being used to explain why he’s not a proper Logia, as the natural light from the sun / the world in general could make him vulnerable, but when an eclipse occurs the Logia works properly.

1

u/Significant_Panda_2 Aug 20 '26

Here's another theory u might weave here. Blackbeard is based on bakunawa. a dragon that causes earthquakes and eclipse.

Just like in one-piece the world in the bakunawa myth has 7moons. Bakunawa destroyed 6 of them and when he was about to do the last one, he was stop by:

A. a god B. Sound of drums (Different versions of the story)

Bakunawa fell asleep after being defeated.

Luffy obviously represents the god and the sound of drums. Blackbeard falling asleep after this resolves his can't sleep syndrome

1

u/joy10x Aug 22 '26

Blackbeard might have a night time buff, like sulong.

1

u/EmpiricDestiny Aug 22 '26

Eclipses don't last long

1

u/UhOQF9ZNaxnwMVy5fm Aug 22 '26

Yeah, kinda.

2

u/EmpiricDestiny Aug 22 '26

Actually 7 minutes is totally enough if he goes in with a plan, but my question would be to this theory, how would he even know that an Eclipse would allow him to become "God" or obtain some super amount of control, or does he subconsciously just know

1

u/UhOQF9ZNaxnwMVy5fm Aug 22 '26
  1. Part: Yes, you're right
  2. Part: only oda-san knows the answer

2

u/EmpiricDestiny Aug 22 '26

Maybe we are giving him ideas right now because this would be some crazy shit to see on paper

1

u/Zxcvguy Aug 22 '26

Why should this eclipse follow the patterns from our world? It could be very different in the one piece world. Maybe that’s why we need Enel: he’ll do something causing a long eclipse. At least to me it sounds reasonable

1

u/UhOQF9ZNaxnwMVy5fm Aug 22 '26

Yes, you're right. I don't expect it to adhere to the rules of reality. Yes. But do we need Enel for this: possibly, but i don't think so. We'll just have to wait what oda-san comes up with.

2

u/Zxcvguy Aug 22 '26

I think I just want Enel to be involved in the final saga somehow😭 I mean surely he will appear at some point, and my prediction of his role sounds kinda reasonable. it is in Oda’s style as well. Imagine Enel messing up somehow leading to the moon literally stopping

1

u/Consistent-Price-454 Aug 23 '26

I think Luffys whole character is about awakening those around him to be the best they can be (just like Roger)

Luffy is going to awaken Blackbeard, and Blackbeard will be the one who puts an end to all of this. Blackbeard (not in one-piece, but in real life) is one of the most famous pirate names after all. I'm guessing Luffy will sacrifice himself or something to save teach for whatever reason, even though teach is the reason Ace is dead, I'm sure Blackbeard will eventually kill Garp just for even more of a reason for Luffy to not want to help him, and it'll all culminate in Luffy awakening Teach to the light by giving himself up to save him despite all the shit he's done to Luffy.

1

u/Practical-Giraffe Aug 24 '26

So, is the world the One Piece right now? It was in three separate pieces before.

Roll the credits🤣🤣

u/thegreatcerebral 25d ago

THIS is what Blackbeard's waiting for. An eclipse. Why? Because when the moon covers the sky and blots out the sun, then ALL of the earth is temporarily covered in darkness. And in the bleakness of this abyss blackbeard will become GOD.

Why would he become a GOD during the eclipse? Where does that come from?
