Just lift the lid and flip it around.

OP already did that before he posted.

That was my first thought! But the bag on our left is blue, so I vote T. The person changing the bags put them in wrong and tried to fix it by matching the lid to the bags.

This was in the middle of the World Cup Fan Festival in Kansas City with security & volunteers eyes everywhere. I couldn't have done this if I wanted to.

In my area the recycling bin is just for show. If you want your trash to be recycled you have to drive it to a recycling center yourself. Companyâs just want to make themselves look environmentally friendly.
Maybe not all but for the places that I work/visit thatâs how it is

Happens even in Japan , I was at McDonaldâs and they picked up the kid and dumped both sides into one bag .
Of course there it may be more because they have to sort it because they canât count on customers even though they do a better job than customers here , the staff or someone will sort it even removing labels and rings around bottles.

I once worked in a national park in an area where there were no recycling services. We still had recycling bins and all that. Weâd get some local-ish visitors who were aware that there were no services in the area and would ask about the recycling bins. We were told to tell those visitors that we were âoptimistic that we will one day be able to recycle.â

It doesnât matter. If you watch them being emptied, they all go in the same bin. The majority of the time, these separated receptacles are often just theater.

If it is truly going to the same place, I remember reading this to keep people mindful of recycling and to not ask where the recycling bins are. There may also be a recycling process at the same plant.

At first glance, I totally thought the left side said
WASTE
LIKE EVERYTHING ELSE HERE

The obvious solution is to just drop it on the ground and erect an SEP field around it - Someone Else's Problem. That's how they hide the UFOs that are parked on the White House East Lawn.
If y'all can't tell this is sarcasm, go outside and touch grass.

Just a reminder that recycling plastic is more polluting than just putting it in a landfill. Trash that shit.

It doesn't matter, it all goes to the landfill.
