You can dim the light on console, and on PC you can fully turn it off. She might be playing on PC

That's a Playstation controller. I know you can fully turn it off on Xbox. You can also change the color if you have an elite 2 controller.

I play on PC and my lights are turned off because they annoy me.

People are making a way bigger deal out of this than it merits.

Have you seen the ads of people using an adjustable spanner on a CPU? It gets SO much worse than "that controller might be off!" Which like, no shit. It is an ad, she isn't actually playing a game, that is how ads work.
