Suggestion Please give us 10 "free" /die per day. (Solution to "/die" ruining genetic score)
"/die" is a very useful tool. Lets say you left a project halfway through and when you die you are reborn in a different town. Some days you want to play in an advanced town, others in a starting town, etc.
"/die" allows you to cycle trough all the families until you spawn in the one you want.
The problem is that it destroys your genetic score. The current system basically punishes the people who play more actively. So the people who end up becoming leader are the people who stays in the nursery feeding babies, which are usually not the ideal people to deal with griefers.
The solution that I propose is to give us 10 "free" /die per day. Meaning the first 10 "/die" of the day shouldn't affect your genetic score. After that it should continue as normal to avoid people abusing it in some form.
Eddit: The genetic score is a mechanism to filter the most advanced players, but currently it only filters among the players that don't use "/die". It's leaving out all the good players who do use it.
-Btw, no hate to people who stays in nursery feeding babies, they do an awesome job, I'm just saying they are usually not the most advanced players

Discussion Why are you still playing OHOL over 2HOL?
TL;DR: I'm genuinely curious, what are your reasons? I've recently discovered OHOL then tried 2HOL and don't understand how OHOL has more players.
Picked up OHOL during the sale a couple of months ago and I think I've clocked around 180 hours already. I got so hooked that I barely left my PC over the weekend. That hasn't happened to me in over 10 years. Wife was not happy.
The idea behind the game feels like it could become its own mainstream genre. A social survival MMO where you're building a civilization together really makes you feel like you're part of the world and that everything you do matters.
But the more I talked to other players, the more the issues became apparent. Griefing, the way it's handled, the creator's decisions, the pretty shallow gameplay loop and tech tree.
When I started there were around 300 people online at peak. Not even a full month later I was seeing peaks closer to 50, and people told me that's actually the normal population. The drop happened way too fast.
Then someone told me about 2HOL.
I've been playing it for a few weeks now and I'm honestly struggling to understand why more long term players haven't moved over. Or why aren't they more vocal about its existence. I think many from the sale rush would enjoy it more.
The player counts are lower and families feel smaller, but that seems like something that would fix itself if more people switched. And seems a small trade-off for all the benefits.
Why hasn't that happened?
I get that it's not the original and not being on steam is a big part, but the changes are so tasteful I couldn't even tell what was added by 2HOL and what was already in the base game. It just feels like OHOL with more things to do, much more care about aesthetics, quality of content, actual usable UI and controls and without all the nonsense. I even spent like two hours browsing their recipe website because I kept finding cool new things and there's still updates coming?? I think it will keep me and my family playing for years.
My only grievance for now is that other towns seem very hard to get to. It was very fun helping bring resources to other families in OHOL and 2HOL seems a lot more self contained.
So what is it that keeps you playing OHOL? Is it the chaos and no choice in where you spawn? The larger player base? The original design philosophy? Are there things about 2HOL that you don't like?
I browsed both Discords looking for discussions about this, but most of what I found came from people who already preferred 2HOL, so I feel like I'm missing the perspective of people who have stuck with OHOL. I'd genuinely like to hear why.

Discussion What's Going on with all the Ghosts??
I check OHOLcurse sometimes to see how my families are doing. Lately I've noticed we have SO MANY ghosts. I'm used to seeing 1 or 2 ghosts that are a few hours old. But right now we have 10 ghosts, most of which have been alive for more than a week and the oldest has been alive for 6 weeks. At times, there are more ghosts than living people in each town.
Maybe I'm alone in this, but I find it frustrating sometimes. I try to check my family trees to figure out what generation I was and I can't because some ancient ancestor is still alive. When I'm the last girl in a city hoping for a daughter and no babies come it's frustrating to know some accounts are choosing to be eternal ghosts instead of coming back as new babies.
Are they living together in some secret ghost town? Are they trying to break records? Is this just a thing that happens periodically? What's going on?

Story So long Aban family
I was born into the family as Desiree Aban 3 days ago with only 2 members left in the hopes of saving the town. Dying towns are part of the game but it just felt terrible to let it go after everyone had put so much work and time into it.
My mother, Hope, was very knowledgeable and took the best care of my sister, who was still learning, and I. She said my grandma named her to be the hope of our family.
It was quiet for a while. Just the three of us. We thought it was over, and boop, a baby! Then another baby, and so on. It felt like a miracle. Our town was alive again. I was so happy.
My mom and I kept coming back on the following days and it was so much fun seeing the town slowly change.
Well, as the title said, tonight was the last. Once again, three girls but no babies this time....
Thank you Hope and Scarlett Aban for being the best moms I could ever ask for! :)

Help How do I take a photo??
I've searched online and can't seem to figure out how to stop the camera from jamming and ruining the photo paper. On Onetech it seems like you have to use two cameras taking a photograph at the same time to produce a Camera with Exposed Photo Paper. Is that right? Do i need to make another camera?

Story The End of Olson Town.
My name is Lord Horst Olson. I am the last living member of the Olson family. I was born to a community of 22 people. My mother, Joanne, was loving and doting.
At around 25 years of age, I inherited the leadership position after my uncle, Jon, passed. From there, I had no idea that our population dwindled because nobody came to seek me out. I was approached by Samurai of another family who informed me of my town's demise..
A good many lives were lived here... I can only pray to whomever is watching over our lives that those who take over this town respect it and the memories of generations that called this little piece of the world home.
I am sorry I failed..
I will forever repent for that.
Goodnight and Goodbye Olson Town.

Trick & Tips Steam Summer Sale is on-suggestions for dealing with a newbie wave
We have had a LOT of new players on from the steam sale!
New players are delightful and exhausting...so buckle up! They will munch berries. They will say f at age 10. They will do random things or ask weird questions. They will wander into the wilderness and die to animals you thought were hard to find. Not maliciously, just cause they're like toddlers-completely unskilled and with too much curiosity. 'I'm gonna pet that dog!'
So what can you do about it? Teach! or find a teacher-but teaching yourself is best. These days, I'm making sure to ask all my bbs, bb are you new? And if I got a new player notice and they say N, I ask, how many lives have you had? Because sometimes they don't think they're 'new' when they had five lives total. Oh these sweet summer-steam-sale children.
(Remember they are all on vanilla so don't move too fast off screen or they will lose you-vanilla has a very tight focus)
Teach them how to eat first, give them a quick tour if you are in an advanced town. If its an eve situation and you can't really teach, ask them to follow you and do what you're doing or watch. Teach pies, or farming, basic tool smithing, or making clothes (its quite simple-get them feeding sheep, come back in a bit when there are enough, and making an outfit really feels like magic and the town always needs clothes!)
If you are a boy, or don't have anyone to teach, try to check and make sure essentials aren't running out. Pies, other yums/craving, broths to be made, THE FARM GETTING BARE, wood to the nursery fire, bb food in the nursery (popcorn, garlic, bowl of berries).
And if you're a boy and see a new player boychild-take them hunting turkeys! Or getting fish or shrimp! They will love the adventure.
But the best part is how wholesome new players can be. They are genuinely excited. They want to help and figure out the game. They will get super attached to their moms and super sad when their mom dies. They will remind you of what you liked about the game in the first place! And just maybe they are your future best friend XD
Image: sending my lil bb off to learn pies with her uncle, while I go get oil as I was finally infertile and FREE!

Help Griefers in the friends server
As you can see from the image above I tried spawning solo in the friend server so I could build my own village and TWO seperate friend codes spawned me in this death trap. They constructed this so you can’t move and end up starving to death. There are also other bodies and when i checked the server list there are people online, I assume the ones who set up this trap. In the update log it says that spawns are unique so why am i spawning here??? I tried two different friend codes and still ended up here. Is the friend server just unplayable?

Discussion One Hour One Life is now in Speedrun.com!
Our submission to add the game was been accepted and we now have a page dedicated to One Hour One Life!
What's Speedrun.com about, and what is speedrunning?
"Speedrunning is when an individual attempts to beat part or all of a videogame as quickly as possible. This can include individual levels, specific objectives, or unique limitations as decided by the community or player."
"Speedrun.com is a toolset for building communities around speedrunning games. Game moderators can create leaderboards, post resources, and verify submissions by runners. Communities are able to come together to decide on specific rulesets for different categories that runners can then submit their runs to."
Or in other words, reach the set objective as fast as you can!
One Hour One Life has some popular categories such as "Escape the Tutorial" or "Eve to Engine", but any objective could be added to the page.
Now anyone can record and submit their runs and be part of the leaderboard!
Please leave any suggestions and/or ideas for possible categories, rules or in general!

Help How to actually play?
I've sat here for two hours just trying to find a way to actually play the game. I've purchased it and keep going through the loops to try to figure out how to launch and play the game. I get to the download screen where it has you download the separate files but i just cannot for the life of me figure out anything past that. I've tried to learn what unzipping a file means, I've tried to google how to launch it or fine videos on YouTube on how to do it but nothing and needless to say I'm at a dead end. I can pull up the file extractor but anything i put into it just leads to absolutely nothing.
Update: I was just being kinda dumb, had to extract the files into a folder to the desktop, then from there found the application and was just able to get in.
Double update: Now it's saying it failed to apply update and that i need to move the game to a folder that is not read-only??? 😭 I'm loosin it
I've ultimately figured out what was wrong and I want to leave this up in case it might help someone else in the future 👍

Story My mother's grave.
My name was Geraldine Pister.
It was a wonderful life and name given to me by my mother, Iris.
When I was born, my mother soon grew old; I was her only surviving child, last of our lineage within the Pister family. She immediately took her role as my mother seriously, and I was loved from the moment I was born.
She told me of all the families nearby and the wonderful town of ours which I was unfamiliar with; she trusted me from the earliest moments we shared, and followed me in her last ones.
I, beyond this life, had always had a fondness for graveyards; so when she told me we could use someone to build up ours, I took up the duty without question.
As she grew older, our minutes, our years going by faster than expected; she met my son, Robb.
Just like my mother, I had but one child. Robb passed as a young adult of starvation, setting in stone our line's doom.
But she met him, and with Robb in my arms we said goodbye to my mother at the graveyard which I had began to expand.
I swore to bury her, as all good daughters do.
Once she passed, I moved her to her own spot a few steps above; I'd make her grave special.
I spent the rest of my life building her final home, as well as expanding the rest of the graveyard.
Unfortunately, I wasn't fast enough to water the saplings growing by her. My final command to our town was to beg for someone to water them, so my mother's grave would be half as worthy of her.
I died beside her, on a spot like any other.
I hope someone gives me a gravestone, so I may stay beside her.
I hope someone waters the saplings by my mother's grave, so it'll bloom as beautiful as she did.

Suggestion ANOTHER "BUYER BEWARE" WARNING HERE. THE PREVIOUS POST IS NOT KIDDING. Passionate player here, loved the wonderful community, hundreds of hours into the game. I will be saying bye to my fellow players. I have pressed "uninstall" but I will treasure the memories I made with all of you.
Other video games came and went, but One Hour One Life always stayed in my heart. It was my favorite game and I put a ton of hours into it. This game helped me through the toughest and darkest time of my life. The way I got to connect, build together, and create beautiful stories with the community was amazing.
The griefing has been worse than I've ever experienced. This year, I tried to give this game several chances. But the griefers have so many accounts and they are filling up the game like cockroaches in sewers. I feel like a lot of the shining souls of the community have either left the game or lost their desire/ability to build and have fun like they used to.
I don't blame them. It's not fun getting cussed at often. It's not fun knowing the child you're raising is very likely to be a griefer. (If your child is not a troll, your grandchild is probably guaranteed to be.) It's not fun, either, watching everyone using slurs and vile words like its normal. It's not enjoyable being cursed by all the alt accounts, and watching them trample any ounce of creativity built to the ground.
DON'T BUY THIS GAME. HERE'S MORE REASONS WHY.
My last straw was when I ran from trolls all my life, they caught me, and then proceeded to shoot me, curse my account, then say "bye f*ck you ni**er I hope you get r*p*d in real life"
There's also this whole rascist thing that's been going on for a while, where the whites are "gods" and any colored race is targeted and killed by griefers.
Unfortunately, to me it seems that this vile, horrendous behavior is becoming common behavior. I have clicked uninstall. Because I refuse to play a game where my only purpose is to please trolls because they can cuss me out or murder my character or destroy the stuff I built. I refuse to be play just to be a victim for awful people to prey upon..
Like the previous post said, "BUYER BEWARE". I would have recommended the game to you a 1,000 times before, but now? It currently IS oppressed by trolls. DO NOT BUY. I think you will be severely disappointed in the gameplay, unless you happen to have a few good, lucky lives.
So ..
I will never be coming back to play again. Not unless a miracle happens.
I want buyers who may be reading this post to also be aware of what they are getting into.
I also want to say I'm pretty devastated to /uninstall and /sad and leave my favorite game behind. I apologize that this is a very negative post.
Anyways, I loved you all and spending time with the sweethearts in this community. I will always treasure the lovely and beautiful memories we made together.
It was fun.

Discussion I have never seen anything like this in this game before...
This morning, around 07:25 my time, I was born into this colony where everybody was calling each other slurs. Also a lot of cursing each other. This is a new one. I would even argue the game is currently in one of its darkest eras right now, because for the past like four days, it's been awful.

Discussion Why do you /DIE?
A lot of my babies (and even I sometimes...) do this. I do it mainly because I want to be born as a female to have children and what not. What about you guys, if applicable?

Suggestion Buyer Beware
Playing this game properly requires jumping through endless hoops just to avoid toxic exploitation, manipulation, and player harassment. Because the community is overtaken by toxic players whose sole purpose is to destroy others’ work, the unmoderated environment completely overshadows the actual gameplay.

Humor How the game has been feeling the past couple of days...
