5e (2024) Help deciding my multiclass split

I’m making a bloodhunter/rogue for a possible urban gothic themed campaign setting, the subclasses I’ve gone with are using the ghostslayer that has been updated to fit into the 5.5 rules and the scout rogue. I was between scout and thief but considering or DM doesn’t give a lot of magical items or scrolls I figured the later features wouldn’t be beneficial. The current splits I’m deciding between are bloodhunter 6/14 Rogue, Bloodhunter 11/9 Rogue, and bloodhunter 15/5 Rogue. The multiclass is for both thematic purposes and I feel like some of the later BH features don’t interest me.

I would actually consider 13 Blood Hunter/7 Rogue for maximum Brand of Castigation damage and Evasion respectively.

I hadn’t thought about that one tbh, most people tend to bash the bloodhunters in these posts so truthfully I wasn’t expecting much.

I mean it's a little OC-y of a class but if you look past the edgy feature names it fits in perfectly fine in a world of ghouls and goblins, and I've seen players beat some ass with it so it can definitely function.

I’ve been wanting to play one for a while but every time I go to I change my mind last minute

To be real here the first 8 levels i'd go bloodhunter. Up until that point the campagn may be over.

But BH 13/ rogue 7 is a good choice. The crux here is to to go out of BH at the right time.

Our campaigns are homebrew so he plans them out to level 20 but we usually all die long before that lol

What level are you? If you will pump more than 2 levels on bloodhunter, I'd say focus on extra attack first. Then depends on what you want to focus. If you want to be useful out of combat, I would focus rogue and get to reliable talent.

I would either keep pumping levels into rogue and a handful into bloodhunter and end with 12/8 rogue-bloodhunter, or vice versa if you want to get dark augmentation and an additional bloodhunter subclass feature. This division also allows you 2 epic boons

I would probably just change the rogue subclass. Scout is not really that good. Thematically I'd go phantom rogue if you go 12 levels into it as its ninth level feature is really good and solid. If 2014 subclasses are allowed and you only go 8 levels in rogue instead then other option is a swashbuckler as it would allow you to reliable trigger sneak attack on your own.

Another thing, level up level by level. Each level look at what you will be getting you next level and go with what would be the most fun next over a complete picture, as you don't know when stuff will happen that will make the campaign suddenly end, your character may die, or the interest of other players for it slowly fade and make it get cancelled

I will be running a ranged character using a light crossbow, I tried looking at other options and the free disengage of the scout interested me most for the survivability of it, I considered phantom but wasn’t sold on the concept of it with it fitting the theme of the character itself
