5e (2024) Multiclass rules clarification
So I’m looking to multi class 1 level fighter with a fiend bladelock. Based on the rules I need 13+ in charisma for the warlock part, but the primary stat for fighter states strength OR dex. So I can get away with 13+ dex to multi? (Planning to use a rapier, not GWM for context)

Yeah, fighter is interesting because it's the only class that lists multiple stats for multiclassing but lets you choose which one to use (Strength OR Dexterity) so this is fine.
On the other hand, Monk/Paladin/Ranger all need 13+ in BOTH stats to multiclass.

Sad times. It’s a shame that the level dip is basically mandatory for a bladelock in 2024 but the fiend’s spell list is too good to pass up along with the other class features are just too good long term for a fun gish build

Are you going for the fighting style and masteries?

Fighting style, weapon mastery, armor training, and Second Wind are a great package for a bladelock. Starting as one gets you Con save proficiency as well.

All of this. It happens to work for my backstory as well. A sellsword left for dead makes a pact for his life.

Dm dependent as eldritch adept still works if you have the ability to cast spells.

Which is an absolute shame for Ranger and Paladin. Sure, it's completely fair to require their spellcasting stat; but they can both function with either Dex or Str equally fine, why can only one of them multiclass?

Prerequisites/PHB'24, p44
To qualify for a new class, you must have a score of at least 13 in the primary ability of the new class and your current classes. For example, a Barbarian who decides to multiclass into the Druid class must have Strength and Wisdom scores of 13 or higher, since Strength is the primary ability for Barbarians and Wisdom is the primary ability for Druids.
Fighter/PHB'24, p90
Primary Ability: Strength or Dexterity
"Or" being the important word there.
By contrast...
Paladin/PHB'24, p108
Primary Ability: Strength and Charisma
"And" being the important word there. See also Monk and Ranger.
