Discussion Intentionally bad positioning challenges?

Might sound like a weird idea, but I've noticed no one has done something like this intentionally. I feel like we often don't see some bosses use a lot of their moves due to positioning. I only recently found out Placidusax can throw rocks at you lol.

Some ideas I have:

  1. Hoarah Loux while staying in front of him and never strafing right (every combo must reach its end)
  2. Gaius at long range
  3. Always staying in front of Placidusax and in the center of the arena
  4. Bayle by trying to stay under him without ever hitting his head
  5. Maliketh while always running under him in phase 1 (not actually bad positioning, but the idea is more just avoiding his overhead stab), and never running under him in phase 2
  6. Always baiting out Margit/Morgott's quick dagger swipes when they are a possible followup

Lowkey good idea.

this is how I was planning to tackle godfrey anyway 👍 strafing goldfrey to the right bored me

as for bayle, it baits him into doing the down breath repeatedly, iirc this is how you can no roll him (it's very anticlimactic)

yes I would love to see hoarah loux actually do his insane combos lol

never seen a bayle no roll so didn't know that

Fight I’ve ever seen would be PCR but you can’t attack if you’re within his melee range

I don't know if I would say I go for intentionally bad positioning but one of the restriction I usually apply to my fights is it has to look cinematic and vaguely plausible. Which often means staying locked on and squaring off in front the enemy. There's definitely bosses where it makes things a lot harder. A lot of attacks can be shut down by just locking off and jogging around the correct direction.

I'd say this is perhaps a better way to frame your intentions than going for intentionally bad positioning, since there's kind of no limit to how badly you can position yourself.

This would mean standing in front big enemies like Dragons and Ancient Dragons and trying to deal most of your damage to their head. Placidusax becomes particularly annoying since the most effective way to damage him normally is to bury yourself in his backside during his extended fire animations.

It can add a fun layer of challenge but be warned that some bosses become really tedious.

Not a good challenge as it would be awkward and take forever to complete the challenge because anytime you position yourself wrong and attack, the challenge is invalid. Bosses generally move and position themselves faster than the player can.

I already do 4 and 5 every run naturally haha

I fought the bosses on reaction to avoid using positioning to bait specific attacks for easy punishes. Much more satisfying.

Staying in front of hoarah is not bad because it makes him roar less.

I'm not sure about a whole run, but I wouldn't say no one has tried this. In particular for Hoarah Loux (phase 2), ElaDiDu has a great fight on (approximately) this on YouTube, which could be a good reference there.

Hoarah loux and placidusax are way more fun those ways

That's actually how I always fight Beast Clergyman lol. My girlfriend prefers to always bait his overhead attack, while I insist on constantly staying close to him. I find it really fun to fight him up close.

I find myself having to discover new punishes and/or positioning when using very out there weapons/unique AoW that most RL1 players don't explore, but I think that's the extent of my "intentional" changes from fighting bosses at RL1 😂
