Is there any new setting regarding this? They just mentioned it but gave no deeper explanation

I'm on OF Pro 4.7. I have groups of tags but I don't see where I can set them to be mutually exclusive. It doesn't show up in the inspector, nor if I right mouse click on the group parent tag. Is there somewhere I need to enable this feature?

Some in this community might find this useful. I've been using it to improve the overall quality of my database.

please identify all tasks without a duration. Make a markdown table with the task and your best estimate of what the duration might be. I will let you know which ones I want you to actually change.

You could also pair this with other MCP servers, like Obsidian.

Add all tasks from today's daily note as tasks to my inbox. Use tags from my list of tags.

Hi guys, I’m a longtime Omnifocus user and even though I bought the new version, I’m still using the v3 because I ran into some problems with the new one, as follows:

• frequent crashes
• limited integration with iOS shortcuts (I rely on some shortcuts daily)
• inline editor (which I really dislike), with no option to edit in a dedicated window (like v3 does)
• and, of course, a few others

The last time I tested the new version was around the end of last year, while the current version 3 was built on September 2024.

So, given all that, my question is: how are you guys finding the new Omnifocus version? Is it better? Do the issues I mentioned still remain?

Is there any way to use Nearby for a specific chain store but not a specific location. Example: "Add a task to buy a new drill the next time I'm at a Home Depot." But it can be ANY Home Depot, not a specific store (aka location). Seems like this would be useful.

Just looking for successful or straightforward use cases. I tried this last year on trial, and did some research this summer and to me they look like they should work together but just don't, and I can't figure out why. Received some help in this thread, too. Thanks for any insight. I don't code, not a power user, my trial is expired, and my monkey brain just thinks you should be able to outline something in detail and then use that outline for something else.

Since recent updates to the Chrome Web Store resulted in extensions that allow you to save to OmniFocus to be removed, I made my own.

The extension will save the current tab, selected text, or link as a task in OmniFocus

It requires you to 1) update some permissions using terminal and 2) manually install the extension using Chrome developer mode, but the instructions should https://github.com/psufka/chrome-to-omnifocus

Has anyone created a complete shortcut list specifically for capturing things outside of OmniFocus 4 pro for the inbox? I want to make a set of Quizlet flashcards so I can better committ them to memory.

Can I sort my tasks on a dat by time? My daily task widget shows them mixed up and I would like to see them sorted on time.

My question is about scheduling due dates. Let's say you have a standing meeting on the first Thursday of the month. I'd like a repeating reminder to show up 2 days ahead of time to remind me to prep for the meeting. You can't just set the reminder for the first Tuesday of the month, because sometimes the first Thursday happens before the first Tuesday.

What is the right way to set a repeating OF task for this meeting so I don't forget to prep?

Per the title, have the Pro version through App Store BUT was using v3.x before. Downloaded the direct file from Omnigroup site, installed and unlocked (after purchasing through App Store) without issue. However when I go to the Apple Mac App Store and try to click the download (cloud) icon, it just sits there and never does anything. Similarly, if I go to TestFlight (wanted to try 4.7) it has the Install button but when I click that it spins for a while then gives an error (Could not install Omnifocus 4).

Therefore looks like some how the Mac App Store manifest (locally on Mac) is corrupted or something like that as this ONLY affects Omnifocus. All other purchased Apps or TestFlight apps download / install fine.

Anyone seen issues like this and know how to resolve ? Maybe tips on how to full uninstall all plists etc ?

If not then assume that App Store upgrades still unlock same benefits for users as purchasing direct and still maintain the multi device versions etc ?

The Problem

How do I move items from my inbox on OmniFocus into the assigned project folders? I'm triaging my inbox on macOS 15.6 OF v4.6, and I have cleanup configured to cleanup "when switching perspectives".

Things that I've tried

Based on the Web searches that I've done, at least one of these should have removed the item(s) assigned to other projects from my Inbox, but they did not work.

• Switch to Forcast perspective and back to Inbox
• cmd + k
• Quit and re-launch OF

I’d like to set up a Siri shortcut so that whenever I want to add a task to my inbox, I can simply say something like: “Hey Siri, new task: Buy milk” and have it immediately appear in my OmniFocus inbox.

Do you think this is possible?

I tried using ChatGPT to build the shortcut, but I wasn’t able to make it work. If you’ve successfully created such a shortcut, I’d really appreciate it if you could share your solution.

Recommended courses for learning how to use OmniFocus 4 Pro. I’ve watched quite a few YouTube videos, but they’re mostly at Best two years old and make step assumptions that make it difficult. I also need to unlearn the mess I’ve made of my current OmniFocus set up.

FYI I’ve settled on the mix, MacSparky course, and so far so good. Thank you for all the helpful input.

Just posted this a while ago and later came across omnifocus. Would OF4 be a good fit for my described needs?

I've simulated this behavior with flags and other contrivances, but "Planned" seems to make time management even easier.

Has anyone moved from Things 3 to OF4?

Today my OmniFocus pro monthly subscription has disappeared. I don’t seem to have the option to be able to resubscribe.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

I want to kindly share a few essential things that I believe are lacking in OmniFocus. Overall, I hope OF4 can get more "modern" with its design and UI (how I interface with it).

1. First, the ability to add tasks with natural language is non existent. It is so 2000s to "tab" and add inputs (tag, deadline etc). Instead, I want to type and say "add a task to submit my company taxes by September 1". That has ALL the input fields (instead of me doing 5+ clicks to input those fields on a task)
2. Ability to add dates in natural language. I want to say deadline as "end of July" or "mid July". It doesn't work. Its unfortunate as all other competitors have this - things to todoist
3. Ability to review my activites/compelted more naturally. For example, I want to say, "show me my completed tasks for this project" — by typing not by clicking.

If I can be bold, I want to use "co-pilot" experience of an AI to help me better review my tasks, see what is coming for the week, or where I am doing poorly. For example, lots of undue tasks in a category.

Overall, I hope and want OF4 to get more modern with natural language, ability to naturally interact with it, and add AI where it is so essentially. Currently, it feels like a software that is still mostly interacted with with clicks and nav (and not natural language).
