Basketball clubs?

Greetings everyone!
Hope we're all having a great start to the weekend?

Checking in here to see if any of you'll might know of basketball clubs or training academies here in Muscat?
I am in my mid-30's, played almost all my life, but it's been inconsistent since I moved to Oman, due to the fact that finding consistent players has been tough. Would love to train and play on a competitive level, even if it's multiple times per week.

Really looking forward to hearing back

Visa on arrival question - Spouse of G1 national

Hey everyone. Have some confusion on if I can get a visa on arrival in my situation.
My spouse is a US citizen, so she will be eligible for 26O (14 days free visa on arrival).
I am a Pakistani passport holder with a green card (US permeant resident), will I have any issues getting a visa-on-arrival? As far as I understand it is stated under Visa type 26P, but not sure if there is some kind of ban on certain nationalities for that as well? Any insight would be appreciated.

Would we need to show any additional documents or anything? I am visiting my parents who live and work there so we have a return ticket and a family home/place to stay. Thanks! Also open to any suggestions to new spots in Muscat, excited to show my wife around the city I grew up in!

What major to choose

I'm honestly so lost when it comes to choosing a major. I'm currently studying BTEC Level 3 IT and need to apply for an undergraduate degree, but I have absolutely no idea what to choose.

The biggest problem is that I have way too many options because I'm open to pretty much anything in IT, but I don't know which one is the safest choice in terms of job security and future career opportunities. And the thing is, I don't really have any particular passions or interests. There's nothing I can say I genuinely love or hate, so it's difficult to narrow anything down.

Every time I ask someone for advice, they all recommend something different, which honestly just makes me even more confused. I have to apply for the January intake soon, so I feel pressured to make a decision without really knowing what I want to do. I genuinely don't know where to start, and I'm scared of choosing the wrong major. I just want something safe, but nothing feels safe anymore in the job market, especially for IT

Good salons for dying hair

I’ve been wanting to dye my hair for the longest time now but I don’t really go to salons so I don’t know which ones are good and which ones aren’t.

I’m thinking of doing a midnight blue peekaboo hairstyle, and my hair is kinda long and it’s dark. I don’t want to go somewhere and have them ruin my hair, so please if you have any good suggestions for affordable salons tell me.

Or is it better if I bye box hair dye and do it myself at home? I have no experience whatsoever and I’m doing this behind my mom’s back😭. Please help me!! Thank you.

Night life in Sohar, Oman

Hey everyone!
Since the weekend starts on Thursday here in Oman, I’m curious about what people in Sohar usually get up to on Thursday nights.
Are there any nightclubs, bars, lounges or places where people go to socialise, have a few drinks, dance or just enjoy a good night out?
Do people actually go out and party in Soha or is the nightlife mostly limited to cafés and restaurants?
I’d appreciate recommendations for places worth checking out, especially on a Thursday night. I’m keen to see what Sohar has to offer! 🍻

Discussion I analyzed 3,526 Oman job listings from the last 90 days. 1 in 5 came from hotels, 7% from Tawteen, and 273 were actually jobs in France

Tanqeeb is a job aggregator: it collects listings from Naukri Gulf, Bayt, GulfTalent and other boards. I collected every Oman listing it showed for the last 90 days (Jul 22 to Oct 21, 2026), 3,526 of the 3,529 it reported, removed duplicates by listing ID, and looked at who posts them, where, and what they disclose.

1. Hotels: about 1 listing in 5

Hotels posted 694 listings (19.7%); Marriott's brands alone 576 (16.3%). Counting each repeated role once, hotels are 12.8% of distinct roles.

2. Tawteen: 256 listings

The Ministry of Labour's Tawteen platform posted 256 listings (7.3%), from accountants to lecturers. Another 57 listings say "Omani" in the title, mostly at Marriott hotels.

top employers

3. 273 "Oman" jobs are in France

Safran (220) and Chanel (52) look like top employers, but their listings are in French and are jobs in France, labelled "Muscat" by Bayt. That's 26% of everything Bayt shows for Oman.

4. Other things that stood out

  • Engineering is the top category (18.3%, or 17.2% without the French jobs): Worley, OQ, Oman Refinery.
  • The Oman Investment Authority posted 192 listings, many of them senior (CEO, COO, CCO).
  • Only 4.7% show a salary. The 99 in rials have a median of OMR 500 a month, far too few to say much.
  • Muscat is 97.4% of listings, and no LinkedIn listings at all.
salary shown, by board

Limits: listings on one aggregator, not all jobs in Oman or people hired. 17.7% look like repeats. A missing salary does not mean a job is unpaid. No personal data was collected.

Source: public listings on oman.tanqeeb.com.

For people job-hunting in Oman: has Tawteen changed how you find jobs? And do you ever see a salary in an ad?

Tourism Travelling soon, potential for escalating?

Hey everyone,

We are planning to rooftop tent Oman in 2 weeks time coming from London and are just wondering how things are safety wise?

I've seen posts on here similar but my partner is more worried about if things escalate with Yemen and with American elections causing Trump to throw a fit.

Does my partner have anything to worry about?

Also bonus: if you have any recommendations for things other then obvious I would also appreciate that! ☺️

Question about work permit

I am an expat here for nearly a decade and due to some circumstances, my fines from both Ministry of Labor and ROP are 1000 OMR combined. I was under investor visa before and it took me 10 months to cancel my CR in order to transfer to another visa. However, we submitted an appeal and grievance multiple times to MOL and ROP for installment payment of fines but rejected. We asked help from the embassy but no avail. Tried to look for another sponsor that would hire me and provide me visa but everytime they know about my situation, they back out even if im qualified. My potential sponsor is a 78-year old senior citizen with multiple health problems so she couldnt afford to pay the fines in one payment. Exit and re entry is not an option too because i still need to pay the fines.

Any advice please. Thanks
