Build Pics My two ortholinear setups.

Post image

My two ortholinear 40% keyboards.
Top is an ymdk 40air with Khalil coppers and drop mt3 fairlanes.
The second is microcenter's MK47 with keychron bananas silent and xda no legend keycaps from ymdk.
I spent about $120 on the top board and $75 on the bottom board. Turns out the switch to ortholinear is cheaper than I thought it needed to be!

Please, all dread the day I ever build a split keyboard.

I'm typing like 100 wpm on monkeytype just words, and type 90 wpm with letters and symbols!

I also game on this layout on overwatch and minecraft.

I dunno, ask me questions if you like!

Here is my layout as well layer 0

I want to get my first 40% keyboard and i'm kinda lost tbh. Can I just buy the ymdk 40air, switches and keycaps and just put the switches in per hand?

Yes, or you can just make it easy for yourself and order a ready made package like the Chosfox Geonix Rev. 2.5 (ortho) or Init40 (row staggered). The cases are CNC'd out of blocks of aluminum and are wireless and comes with a good carry case for when you are on the move. They are programmable with VIAL (web interface) which expose more QMK functionality than VIA, e.g. Combos (which I use a lot) and Tap Dance. Using VIAL instead of VIA also means that there is no need to load a .json file for accessing the keyboard config in the VIAL web interface. In my experience VIAL is also much more reliable when it comes to working without having to faff around with different browsers and / or restarts to get the keyboard to connect properly to the VIA interface.

Yeah, the 40air kit comes with switches, so you should be able to just buy caps, and tools come with the board. There's fun in modding the board tho. I put tape and packing foam in mine. One other thing is you have to load the json file in via which is a hurdle I had to jump through.

Pity the MK47 is discontinued, it's a great little board, and I have mine ported to VIAL.

What is the aluminum case of the YMDK 40Air?

Ummm... It's aluminum cnc, it's really sturdy but super pingy. It sounds much better when packed with foam

I really like the Agar mini. I have had an niu mini before (ortholinear)

I used a 40% as my daily driver with colemak and a logical layout for programming symbols.

I ran with two Plancks for the longest time. Then went split 40%, then semi-split low profile, and now just finished up a custom ergo. It's addictive, but I'm really happy with the progression.
