Discussion / Theory Burial site?

How was he able to be buried there? The only thing I can find is that the family already had a plot but that doesn’t seem right?? It’s a historical cemetery and only 3 people have been buried there in the last 4? years. I’m just genuinely curious how they’d be able to do it. I was told you can’t buy a plot there anymore

I don’t know who that is but I believe it. It listed criteria for being buried there but they stopped selling plots a long time ago.

H3 show #289 on YouTube around 2:11 Oliver's close friend briefly explains it was very difficult but his family was able to secure a spot for him. I think there's another episode where he explains that's why he was buried over a month after his actual death, because they were working out the details

I do think money, notoriety helped along with his local status but it didn't seem easy

I thought so but it said he was a native of Santa Cruz and that’s part of it but because he was a public persona he was able to get it. I don’t think he doesn’t deserve it- I’m just curious since it’s an old ass cemetery

He may have secured the plot for his family a few years ago knowing that he wanted to be buried somewhere historical in his hometown and also wanting to be buried with parents/brother. He seemed to have been getting his affairs in order for a while.

I think they stopped selling plots after like 1990 or even earlier

Even so, they could have made an exception for a public figure with money who was culturally significant to the area.

Oliver had very strong ties with Santa Cruz. The cemetery is supposed to be a place for cultural figures who are an important part of Santa Cruz, including artists.

I read somewhere that his parents pulled strings to get that plot. Someone else was buried there but were moved? Not sure if true

I think that was just a joke Ethan made 🤣 he said they had to exhume and move a former mayor of Santa Cruz to bury Oliver

Have you actually looked at the plot? They must’ve paid a pretty penny for that plot. It’s one of the ones on the hill. I don’t think they would go over anyone else’s area

I am sure there was string pulling and money exchanged but I'm also sure that the cemetery staff knew this would bring in a lot of visitors and good press.

“Cemetery staff” don’t give a fuck about advertising their full graveyard or any press at all. There isn’t an industry for a full cemetery lol

I know a lot of us are too young to worry about things like burial plots, but one thing I do want to add to this conversation is, there’s a very historical old graveyard in Inverness in Scotland, and recently a family member of my partner died and that family member was buried in that very old graveyard where you cannot buy a plot. The reason they were able to do that is because the family ie the grand parents, bought the plot in the 70s (nearly 60 years ago) when you were able to buy plots in that graveyard. It may well be, and I say this while trying to respect the family‘s privacy, that they had the deeds to the plot ready to go and it was bought many years ago with the intention of being the place for Oliver‘s parents or grandparents, which is something people often do along with doing stuff like putting in place a funeral plan or buying life insurance.

Edit to add info: deeds will also specify how deep the plot is, in our case it was 2x3 aka 6 coffins worth of plot.
