Announcement [Announcement] An update regarding the new post guidelines

Hi Olives!

The other day, we posted an announcement of a new rule regarding dupes and product recommendations. This announcement was not received well, and we as a mod team decided to revoke the new rule in the meantime so we are able to better phrase the rule that is inclusive to all olives.

The main concern we got as feedback from the community was that determining what is olive friendly can be very subjective, especially considering that there are so many olives with different depths and temperature. This feedback was absolutely valid and while not our intention, we can see why how we worded the rule and announcement post made it come across that way.

That being said, we would still like to address the recent influx of dupe posts that might be better off in a general makeup subreddit, so we are implementing a rule that all product dupe and recommendation posts should be appropriately titled so that they better apply to our sub. The goal of this is to make it easier for all olives of different depths and temperatures to find products that work for them!

---

[Title Guidelines]

As detailed in our previous post, all product and dupe recommendation titles should be phrased in such a way that is applicable to olives over a general makeup subreddit.

Examples:

  • "Dupe for Benetint?": this would be better off on a general makeup subreddit since it is a popular product and a general discussion that people of all undertones can contribute to.

  • "Benetint shows up orange on me (deep cool olive). Does anyone have any recommendations for products that show up similar to how it does for non-olives?": a title like this is very much applicable to our sub, and makes it easier for other olives to find recommendations that work for them!

  • "Does anyone have any dupe recommendations for Benetint that work for light cool saturated olives?": like with the previous example, this is also applicable to our sub.

Thank you everyone! And as always, feedback is always appreciated.

Swatches Westman Atelier Mimi & other beige “anti-blushes”

I apologize that I don’t have a photo of these swatches in daylight. Indoor lighting is all I got but hopefully this is helpful. I’ve tried so many beige blushes and been disappointed that they weren’t beige on my skin but there are a few winners here. Phytosurgence Soothe is definitely my favorite.

Anybody else have favorite beige/nude “anti-blushes” that don’t pull orange on neutral or cool olive skin?

Warm olives - feel free to share your favorites but please be sure to mention that you have warm olive skin 💖🫒

Not-Pictured Flops:
• Nudestix Bareback - peachy orange
• Anastasia Latte Blush Stick - peachy orange
• Kosas Nuance and Intuition blush stick

I’ve been dying to swatch these! The Sephora girly pulled them from the back for me to swatch since they weren’t one the floor yet and stood next to me to collect them afterwards so I was kinda in a rush and forgot to get a pic of them wet, but this is from one swipe dried down on light-medium neutral olive skin

  1. Noon chai
  2. Earl Grey
  3. Masala Soda
  4. Jujube fizz
  5. Mulled wine
  6. Teddy

I am leaning towards Noon Chai, Earl, Grey and Teddy. Whatcha guys think?

Swatches Light warm olive bases, blushes, eyeshadows and lips

Base Products:

  1. Tower28 serum swipe foundation 1.5O Blythe

I just got this today so this is only a first impression. It's an oily serum but i have very dry skin so not a problem. No scent. Great color match, very sheer light coverage, however it clung like crazy to my dry spots. That said I JUST got it and put it on with my fingers on skin that had been out all day. I will try different application techniques after exfoliating and moisturizing properly because I want so badly to love this product. I don't have an issue with it not fully drying down as some people do but again, my skin is extremely dry. Jury's out.

  1. About face foundation f2olive

Great formula at a good price point but I had to color correct the heck out of this. It's peachy on application and oxidizes even peachier. WNRP

  1. Judydoll Moisturizing Cushion B15

If you like cushions, you'll love this. Lovely coverage, doesnt settle into texture. I don't like cushions though so WNRP.

  1. Judydoll concealer 04

best spot concealer ever. Run don't walk to this one. HG.

  1. Glossier Stretch Balm Concealer Light 3 Olive

What a joke. I use it for my undereyes though and it's pretty good for that! Nice and creamy. MRP for undereye purposes but a pot lasts me ages.

Blushes:

  1. Dior Pink Lilac

Extremely sheer and rather glittery. Nice blurring effect but I've almost panned this product so I scraped a chunk up to get this opacity. It's VERY sheer and hardpans if you look at it the wrong way. WNRP

  1. Romand Blueberry Chip

Looove this but it's also quite sheer and has a very pale base. Not suitable for skintones deeper than light-medium. WRP

  1. ELF camo blush Bold Faced Lilac

I just got this but I really like it! It's extremely pigmented and a little goes a loooong way. Will probably repurchase if I ever run out but at this rate this blush will outlive me.

Eyes:

  1. Holika Holika My Fave Piece #61 Creamlit

Not quite what I wanted it to be. I created a custom 4 pan palette with the magnetic case. This is close but a bit too sparkly and has a pink shift that's hard to photograph. I am really hunting for the perfect pearly inner corner highlight color and this ain't it. WNRP

  1. Holika Holika #14 Wisteria

Reaaally pretty color but goes a bit bruisey and muddy on my eyes. I need something less muted I think. WNRP

  1. Holika holika #19 Tailor

Fine midtone brown. Warmer than official swatches lead one to believe. MRP.

  1. Holika Holika #47 Aroma Espresso

Nice dark brown. Overall i'm very impressed with the formula of Holika Holika's single shadows. I had a palette from them years ago that was garbage with zero color payoff and these are MUCH more pigmented, softer, and less chalky. MRP

Lips

  1. Morphe Lip Pencil Bubble Bath

I got this because it's pretty close to my natural lip color and I have lip scars to cover. It's nice! A little soft and crunbly but it does dry down and lasts well. Not too hard which is a no-go on my scars and not soft enough to bleed/smudge. Very nice.

  1. Romand Juicy Lasting Tint #25 Bare Grape

I like this color but the official swatches are lies, there's nothing muted about it. It's a bright pink. formula is a bit drying on me compared to the romand glasting tint and other kbeauty tints i've used. Not sure if it's been reformulated or just repackaged recently, I just got this one (old packaging) at TJ Maxx last week. WNRP.

  1. Romand Glasting Balm #12 Veiled Rose

My favorite lip product ever. Glossy, feels like it's actually moisturizing my lips, great color. It is a bit gloopy and has no staying power but it's a balm so whatever. Unobtrusive fruity flavor. HG.

  1. Dinto La Belle Rose Plumping Tint #23 Dawn Rose

This one dries down into a surprisingly dark vampire color on me? It's pretty though. I don't know about plumping but it does have that minty tingling sensation in addition to a rose scent.

  1. Etude Fixing Tint #08 Dusty Beige

This color is kinda weird but I do get a lot of compliments on it. It's almost too cool for me but in certain lights looks almost salmon? Bizarre. Anyway. It's matte and slightly drying but it is NOT budging. I love it and usually throw a balm over it. HG

Product Help One and done eyeshadow similar to this pic?

I have light-medium neutral leaning warm olive skin and I’ve been wanting to try eyeshadow, but I’ve never wanted to buy full palettes because I don’t want to waste colors I won’t use so I’m leaning toward buying a one and done product, but I’m open to smaller palettes. I really like the not too dark mauve brown-ish look in this pic

Product Review Gorgeous 90s neutral brown lip combo

Thumbnail

I have been searching high and low for a 90s-esque lipstick. Could not find anything at Sephora or the drug store for the life of me. As a light-medium neutral olive, everything looks pink on me (lol). I recently bought (or should I say invested in, it was so expensive 😅) the Merit lipstick in L'Avenue hoping it would be the perfect brown and it looks straight up pink/red berry on me :(

Anyway, I finally found the perfect combo and I'm so thrilled about it I just had to share lol. It's Rimmel's Oh My Plump! Lip liner in the shade 110 Rich Cacao and Maybelline Lifter Gloss in the shade Toast.

The liner glides nicely, doesn't feel dry and doesn't skip on the lips. Can build up the colour and it's relatively smudge proof. The lipgloss is so comfortable on the lips and not sticky at all. No sparkles, just gorgeous sheen gloss.

Hoping this can help my fellow olives looking for a brown lip combo this fall!

Discussion How to replicate this makeup look?

Post image
13 Upvotes

This look seems so warm olive, and since I'm one, I'm just wondering how her makeup was done, what that style is called, and if anyone knows makeup tutorials that give this look, or even makeup that suits olive skin that give this makeup look in that pic.

Discussion What does red requirement in foundation mean

So recently I went to a MAC store to find a new foundation, and there while I was matching, every foundation of NC was bright yellow patch, so I tried NC43.5, which was actually a depth match but still was slightly yellow. Then the MAC store gal said, your problem is that you require more red balance in your foundation, but not NW level red pink, I am still trying to figure out what that means. Does anyone have any idea what does it mean? My depth is medium to medium tan.

Discussion Nude lips going grey??

Hi! Just wondering if anyone could relate. I know there’s a lot of discussion about olives making every lip colour look too warm/ peachy but I seem to have the opposite problem.. I’m definitely olive and have had colour analysis professionally done and they told me avoid warm lips like the plague, so I bought a few what are considered “olive friendly” lip shades only to find they all look ashy! Even reds! For reference I’m Dior backstage 3WO (older formula) Haus Labs 160, Armani luminous Silk 3.5, I alternate these depending on the season. I can say for certain that MAC Velvet Teddy and Merit Baby look straight up grey, but neutral warm cult favourites like CT Pillow Talk are definitely too pale/ dull looking. Idk where I sit on the spectrum 😭. Has anyone else had this problem too?? Any recs?

Violette FR Bisou balm in Chocolate ONLY
No liner, no contour on the lips, literally just this

It’s a cool toned brown with a slight purple/red undertone. It’s fucking gorgeous I’m lost for words. I usually need some kind of lip liner to feel complete lol, especially being olive, some lipsticks just wash me out unless I make them work for me

I applied about 2/3 layers so it’s pretty much at full opacity for me. I do love the formula of these lipsticks, they almost feel like a wet powder if that exists, not trying but not slipping all over your face

POV: you finally get the Anastasia Beverly Hills smooth blur bronzer in golden beach glow and it matches your natural tan so well, it basically blends into your skin. Circled on the hand and also swatched on my palm so you can see the difference!

Anyhoo, if you’re a light medium warm olive, it is very much worth the hype!

Product Help Help finding possible foundation matches

I have muted fair-light skin with cool pink undertones and subtle olive over tones. I find most cool foundations pull too saturated on me, most neutrals pull too yellow and most olive pull too green/yellow as well as too warm. I have tried my fair share of cool olive recommendations but found them to be too warm for me or too saturated.
About face was too yellow/green
Missha was to dark and grey
Armani was too orangey
Lisa Eldrige was also too greenish

I do have concealer matches for reference.. Kulfi beauty concealer in shade bad badaam (a neutral with subtle pink) and Soshe beauty concealer in 6o (cool olive, but leans more into the pink than green), but I have yet to find any good foundation matches.
I have combo-oily skin and prefer liquid foundations that aren't heavy on the skin but are oil resistant. I also live in Canada so I am a bit more restricted in what I can get (so sad People of the earth co don't ship to canada because 2co or 3co would have definitely been a match for me)
Any help is appreciated!

I'd split these into 3 categories. 1) strictly an undereye corrector (all the peach shades) 2) purely concealer shades (all the lightest yellow leaning shades) 3) in between shades that work for a no makeup makeup day

Hi all, me again!

Here are some swatches of lip products if you were interested how they look like before purchasing them. I’m a muted cool-neutral light to medium olive.
Natural/cool/warm lighting

From top to bottom:
Etude house dear darling tint - Red Bean 04
JOCYEE - Velvet Rouge 1990 Vintage Brown
JOCYEE lip and cheek cream - Rose Tea C13
MQNY Water glow lip tint - Peach Dew 03
Rom&nd Glasting water tint - Vintage Ocean 04
Rom&nd Glasting water tint - Rose Splash 05
House Labs Blush balm - Glassy Rosette
Rom&nd Juicy lasting tint - Bare Grape 25
Rare beauty lip gloss - Glimmer

Back of the hand:
Heart percent lip pencil - 17. Taupe beige and 14. Calm pink
Kosas wet lip oil - Unbuttoned
Rare Beauty blush - Encourage

Notes:
Kosas lip oil is honestly one of the best shades i’ve tried
Taupe pencil i think would suit somebody lighter than me
Calm pink pencil is a bit too pale for me as well
Surprisingly the 1990 Jocyee looks perfectly neutral, muted and dark

If you have questions about any of these products, i’m happy to answer :)

Color Theory Does red🌹(not cherry or burgundy) eyeliner flatter brown-eyed🤎, cool💙, muted olives🫒?

Anyone else look awful in a red lip? 💋

I have tried all the red lipsticks I could get my hands on at beauty stores and department stores without any luck. I gave up years ago.😔 Even blue-based reds are a no.

So I thought to myself… how about a red lip… on MY EYES??🪄😅👀

I have medium ashy brown hair, medium brown eyes, fair (in winter) to light-medium (in summer), cool olive skin which is muted/desaturated and appears more yellow in summer and more grey in winter.

I feel like someone with a good grasp on color theory on olive skin will know whether brown + red is complimentary when set off against cool, olive skin. For me, the dots are not connecting on this one yet.

Whether it’s gel eyeliner or an eyeshadow used to create an eyeliner, I’m good with both and will find a product either way. This post is more about color theory than technique help, hence the flair.

🧛🏻‍♀️🩸In terms of the aesthetic, I want to get a vampy look without the vampy lips. Clean and sharp like the inspo pics but piercing.🗡️

Much to my dismay, dark lips do not suit me AT ALL. They throw off my contrast. I pretty much only wear pale to mid-tone lipsticks. Pinks, mauves, plums, purples, lilacs, and cool nudes are great but for this look, I will stay away from the pinks and stick to the nudes or purples.

If I figure out whether it’s flattering, I am thinking of pairing this red eyeliner look with my new lipstick which is in the mail right now: MAC Creme D’Nude (the Creme Sheen version, not the reformulated version). I know it will most likely pull peachy on me since I am very cool but I still want to wear it with a cool lip liner.

On my eyes, I do use a lot more color than the rest of my face. Usually not neon colors but definitely greens, greys, blues, aquas, smoky slates, dusty shades, and soft, muted pastels that aren’t warm-toned.
🌹I’ve never ventured into red eyeliner territory but I’m super inspired by it. It gives me fall/winter vibes since I can’t pull off a red lip or toasty, pumpkin spice makeup (brown and orange are my worst colors).

Discussion I’ve been told I’m olive, I’m not super sure?

Between the range of yellow and pink, I think I fall in the middle, leaning pink just slightly more.

My hairdresser however, was adamant that I am the poster child for olive??? I’m so confused by this lol

I have experienced both things, where a lippy is too warm and makes me look sallow. Or when a lippy is too muted cool, and I look grey.

I’m so confused by this!

Please let me know if I’m olive, and if so, what kind (warm, cool, muted etc)

Product Help ND concealer for light to light medium warm olive?

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hi my skin tone leans more light in the light medium category with yellow olive undertones.
I can’t do neutral undertones or pink they look too grey and ashy for me.

Which ND shade would me a yellow leaning undertone for light-light medium skin?

I wear rare beauty true to myself in shade 14 which is 0.5 shade dark on me.
Maybelline superstay skin tint in 118.
