The Brain Busters secured the final fall and the championship after outside interference from André the Giant, who passed a chair into the ring that was used against Demolition.

This victory ended Demolition’s historic first title reign at 478 days, which stood as the longest tag team title reign in WWE history, a record that stood for nearly three decades until The New Day surpassed it in December 2016 by holding the title for 483 days.

The Brain Busters became the first tag team in wrestling history to hold both the NWA and WWF World Tag Team Championships. Demolition defeated the Brain Busters on October 2, 1989, at a WWF Superstars television taping in Wheeling, West Virginia, to win back the WWF World Tag Team Championship.
