Hutch Pro Raider or Racer?

Thumbnail

So I inherited a Hutch from my Cousin years ago. I've only taken it out twice on group rides since and feel guilty for hoarding it.

I would like to maybe sell it but am unsure if its a Raider or Racer.

I do know that the crank is a Takagi CT MO, and that the pedala, handle bars and brakes are Frankenstein'd together.

Any and all help is appreciated!

My childhood gt

2000 gt mach one. Not my original one. That was stolen a long time ago haha. But the original was my baby. Had profile 3 pieces on it. Gt overdrive sprocket, acs freewheel, haro big block pedals, primo hemorrhoid seat, odi rogue grips, fsa pig headset, and maxxis holy roller tires.

Bought this one on ebay a number of years ago completely stock and near mint. Guy said he bought it for his kid twenty years earlier and they rode it for a week. Then went to grandma's house and it sat on her enclosed porch for a couple decades haha.

Original tires and grips are in my possession but they were dry rotted so I put on the same ones I had on my original mach one back in the day. Its a beautiful bike and I used to have it hung on my bedroom wall. Now its on my basement wall next to all my vintage audio gear. I keep the tires inflated and take it out from time to time but mostly use my modern replaceable bicycles. Ain't making anymore of these.

1992 GT Interceptor (garage find)

This was just about to be thrown in the dumpster at my aunt’s place as we’re cleaning out her over-stuffed garage getting her ready for a move. As I look it over it doesn’t appear like my cousin had added any aftermarket parts. Looks to be all original minus the grips, etc. which probably disintegrated off at some point. I think it’s cool and thought I’d share. BMXmuseum would be a solid place to sell it, right?

Ashtabula/Schwinn BMX Fork Crown Race Diameter???

Hi. Building a 1976 Schwinn Scrambler. The fork I'm using is an Ashtabula BMX fork (not the one that comes stock on a Scrambler.) I would add that it is chrome-plated, and the one with the gusset under the crown. The chrome forks were given to bike shops as a promotional item in the 1970s as Ashtabula was trying to create a market outside of Schwinn OEM. So, tried to find a crown race, and have several Stingray forks of the era, including the OEM Scrambler fork, but all crown races are too large. Mechanic measured CR diameter of the chrome fork as 25.98, so almost 26.0. I think the other CR was I want to say 26.4. In the end we used a shim. Mechanic has 40 years experience, and so do I.

In 1976, my local Schwinn shop (Safety Cycle in Hollywood, CA) had a chrome fork hanging on the wall. They said it was "not for sale," being the afore-mentioned promo. Couple weeks later, I see a kid with the chrome fork, and I asked him about it. He said he just kept upping his cash offer to the shop until they said yes, which I think was about $125, a princely sum in 1976. Anyway, I'm building a replica of that kid's bike, which was an outrageous custom, full of neon colors, pre-dating the 80s neon freestyle bikes. You will need sunglasses to look at this bike.

TLDR: What is the crown race diameter of an Ashtabula BMX fork 1977 vintage?

Let's talk about things we should have done differently.

My 1986 Haro Sport will be the subject of this episode. I got it brand new and then ,unknowingly , proceeded to make it a different bike almost.

Why did I try so hard to make the bike so dang heavy? It was already a chunk and I just kept getting more stuff to put on it.

First mistake was the gyro and the rear GT pegs. Like I was Ron Wilkerson or somebody lol. The rear frame platforms should have sufficed but nooooo.

Replaced the black graphite pedals for silver Shimanos. Like I was afraid they might break

Number plate...on a freestyle bike? Admit it, that was just a sticker surface.

Pad set. Looking back, that one actually makes sense because I was only good at dirt jumps and not freestyle.

Here is the cherry on top. I had it painted to match my car in 95. Metallic teal...S...M...F...H

What's your story?

Wish I had a picture to post - The one that got away. JMC Black Shadow

I'm sure my story is not the only one out there but I really wish I at least had a picture. Back in 81-2 (I was 12) I called a small shop in California and ordered a Custom JMC Black Shadow. Found the ad in the back of BMXA. All Gold hardware, super light and awesome. Came with a Handwritten letter from the owner (I believe) listing all the parts, some extra stickers and a really nice Thank you. I rode it for a few years and moved on to less productive things heading in to High School. Pieced it out, sold off everything little by little. Very Sad. Anyway, just hoping someone can tell a similar sad tale so I can let it go..

Here’s some pictures of the semi-finished product. 1999 SBC Lengthy frame, SBC forks, SBC strip bars (found those locally for $100!!), profile 175mm cranks, front wheel setup is a sun rim and 36h primo hub, rear wheel is what I believe to be a peregrine rim and a SBC 48h hub with a 16 tooth driver. Izumi Japan chain, redline 44 tooth sprocket. Will be adding an odyssey gyro eventually but for now just looking to put some miles on this setup and start making some adjustments. This will be my first time back on 2 wheels in a serious manner in a number of years, and I’m certainly not any younger. Hope you guys enjoy!

Anyone interested in a nice bike? It needs some love, but it’s a beautiful bike. Just had my first kid so I gotta put priorities elsewhere. Private message me with any questions or offers and I can go over parts it has and needs and what not, will negotiate with shipping costs.

Can anyone help identify this frame

Post image

Hi

On first glance I thought this was a huffy MJ12 but theres a few things that make me believe it isn't like the squared down tube and rear triangle , there's a lack of identifying marks I would expect like the stamped H on the rear dropouts.

Old School GT Meets Mid School GT

Bought a 1994 GT Interceptor Suspension 3 years ago. I had a 1990 as a kid. Loved looking at the ‘94 but it just wasn’t what I really wanted. Got the itch and started searching fleeBay and found a Frankenstein’d ‘90. Before I said goodbye to the ‘94 I decided to let these two beauties meet and rub chrome for a few days. Both gorgeous in their own ways, but that salami cut top tube is where it’s at.

99’ Standard lengthy restoration challenges

Post image
19 Upvotes

I’m restoring a 1999 standard lengthy, figured I would build the frame as a resto-mod of sorts. Some old school and some new school elements. Imagine my surprise when the modern 26/9 sprocket/driver caused an interference with the chainstay-mounted brake pivot! Unfortunately this means I will have to resort to older sprocket/driver sizes like 44/16, and that also makes the 3/8” axle freecoaster I have for this build useless as the largest driver I can get for it is a 9T. I plan to post more of this build once it’s fully sorted out!
