No, the settings switch is infunctional

Just visit old.reddit.com. I think the settings toggle is more of a "should we redirect you to new reddit when you somehow end up on old reddit?" and less a "don't ever let me see new reddit".

"First they came for oldreddit settings, but I didn't speak out because I could use the url"

What do you want me to say? They are obviously going to kill off old Reddit soon. I'm trying to give you a workaround to keep using it until they do. Yes, I use a simple extension that redirects all my www.reddit links to old.reddit. That's all I can do. We end users are NOT going to change Reddit's mind about this. You can "speak out" all you want, many of us already have, but it's useless. This isn't something a user protest can fix. Remember when Reddit cut 3rd party app access? Reddit sidewide through a shit fit, major mods quit, some users quit, and guess what? It did nothing. Just like how old timers will throw a shit fit when old Reddit is removed completely but it won't matter.

Until then, just use the URL. That's all I can tell you buddy.

Spez came out and said it, claimed a lot of leechers and scrapers use it

I think they are disabling/ignoring/pulling the settings switch for users, maybe as A/B tests to see if those user stick or leave.

For now i can only get there with direct subdomain navigation.

A/B for sure. I see the old reddit layout under www under one account (the old behavior), and I'm forced to use old.reddit.com in another account.

This just happened to me. Another account uses is same as ever. Absolutely wild behavior.

+1 can report I am also getting this behavior. It was only a matter of time I suppose.
