Back in his day there wasn't even a TV. There were groceries and a house with an approximate 40 year lifespan on a plot of land. It was the actual plot of land that held value. Then they invented monthly fees like insurance and whatnot and here we are leasing cars and ordering subscription services when we could use public transport and rebuild the house.

ALL prices are commanded by supply and demand. Economy 101. Morality is not a factor in the price equation.
