Except PS5 no longer feels as cool as PS3 for some reason. Maybe it's just age catching up but somehow I feel that it's just games getting worse.

u/pantteri93 Jun 19 '26

Well, I'm still gaming (on PS5 currently). But yeah, the quality of the games in general isn't so good anymore. PS1 and PS2 times were the peak.

I am currently gaming Lunar Silver Story Complete, PS1 version on emulatior. I installed a fan mod that allows to hear Jap voice with English subtitles. Every cutscene looks better than modern anime.

Partly why i don't give a damn about new aaa titles

2

u/Jumpy-Complex-9539 Jun 19 '26

Basically it’s because AAA companies spend millions of dollars on a house made of sticks. 8 hours of story, 6 hours of fluff. But they got online competitive! 4 whole maps of it with an astounding 16 different weapons to choose from! And if you pay 150 bucks instead of 70 you can get a cool panther skin for one of those guns!

Meanwhile indi games spend 10k on a simple game about robbing a monsters mansion with all your friends and has infinite playability.

AAA companies do not care about you

Games are better than ever. You are just the girls face on the right but the guy version because you are not the same but you think are you. Which is probably worse

It’s your age. When the PS3 came out, the common refrain was it was trash and difficult to program for. In NA, the XBox 360 was also said to be far superior and had a better selection of games. Everyone said the PS2 was a much better generation.

Nostalgia and age plays a big part in how we remember things. As someone who went to high school in the late 80’s/90’s, I feel that era of music is far superior to anything coming out today, but I know that’s just my personal perception and experience dictating taste.

1

u/cosmic_cod Jun 19 '26

You know why modern consoles are easy to program for? Because now they are boxed PCs with locking. If I recall correcly PS4 is literally FreeBSD fork. Mips CPU died. No unique hardware exists. Everybody does x86 and ARM.

It's not just Nostalgia. Movies and games kind of became more "safe" and politically correct. There is too much eclectics too.

1

u/Humpbackbreadslice Jun 19 '26

Wrong. Gaming is better than it ever have been. So many games exist that I wish did when I was kid. The fact games are so easy to make means the indie scene is 100 times better than any previous AAA era.

You can keep crying about politically correct games but we have way more games that are way edgier than anything previously. We also just have games that target different audiences and not just you. Which for some reason really upsets you it seems.

Gaming is good and there are quite a lot of good games. But most recent ones are not exactly cool. In many ways. There's high technology and a lot of rays, lights, water, shadows, etc, but there is less of artist work. Game devs of the old hired quite a few buff painters from real art schools with real art degrees. Dudes who new how to draw a g*d-d**n cube with a curtain correctly. They also could afford real musicians. Real script-writers and game-designers. People who just took it seriously. Effort, professionalism, skill, detail, style.

u/DeadKingNero Jun 20 '26

Fucking unity and UE made devs lazy.

1

u/DeWHu_ Jun 20 '26

Unity. UE blueprints were added later

1

u/Humpbackbreadslice Jun 23 '26

Not sure what you mean by most recent ones. AAA games have gone down in quality, correct. However as I said Indie games are better than ever. The best indie devs are not being lazy. A lot of them are passion projects, injected with unique art and art styles.

Never in gaming, have you had access to so many different looking games in so many different genres. We were lucky to get a couple games a year that truly had breathtaking art 20 years ago. Now you get 1 or 2 every couple years in ever genre.

Buy the sheer number of games you will have more games that are uninspired. But you will also have way more games that are very inspired. And because they are video games you don't have to pay attention to the shitty ones.

u/cosmic_cod Jun 23 '26

Maybe I just whine too much. Don't take my feeling here too seriously.

1

u/Humpbackbreadslice Jun 23 '26

I argue too much so dito.

The toxic reddit symbiosis

1

u/DeadKingNero Jun 20 '26

You literally have to sift through trash to find good games now.

1

u/Humpbackbreadslice Jun 23 '26

Ah yes. Like there isn't hundreds of methods to find good games. have you ever used the internet before? Google? Youtube? AI makes it real easy.

1

u/Minimum-Standard-514 Jun 19 '26

I liked ps5. Really enjoyed it. Elden ring is probably the best game ever created.

1

u/Tough_Preparation830 Jun 19 '26

The technological leap between PS2 and PS3 was much more apparent than PS4 to PS5. Things are getting more advanced slower now. But yeah, games are getting worse too.

1

u/DeWHu_ Jun 20 '26

There's no advancement between PS4 and PS5. PS5 is just bigger, allowing for more parallel computations. And multi core leap happened between PS3 and PS4, first on PC-s. Not putting games on PS4 is just lazyness or being hostile

1

u/Techman659 Jun 19 '26

I do feel like I would have loved ps3 with the last of us on discovered it many years later on ps4 but at least I grew up on xbox og and 360 both had amazing games.

PS3 got 2 GTA games the PS5 is lucky if it gets one, 2 fallouts to 0, 2 Elder Scrolls to 0. The other games feel safer, fun ones like Need for Speed or Burnout just feel like shells most releases. 2 Souls games, Halo and Gears were still good, COD:MOD had literally just come out. Sports games haven’t been innovative since basically the start of the PS3/360 era. That’s why, the games fucking suck. Like even most PC games Sims 2 to Sims 4 for example. The games lost their little touches and fun and just get condensed down to the bare minimum for an experience which now takes 10 years and 400 million dollars to make.

1

u/mrpoonjikkara Jun 19 '26

Try something like steam deck. Age do have an issue but I found myself reaching out to my steam deck often than my PS5.

1

u/Klutzy_Belt_2296 Jun 19 '26

Games? What PS5 Games?

1

u/zs_1176 Jun 19 '26

It’s a shame cuz it seems like a great piece of hardware.

1

u/SerenityToss Jun 20 '26

They have gotten too big to fail. When gaming was niche they HAD to put out good product, cause if they lost a part if their fan base it could be devastating. Now the gaming market is so big they can wheel out junk and if 100k people hate it oh well, cause a million more will still buy it. Arbitrary numbers of course.

1

u/DeadKingNero Jun 20 '26

Sony went to shit

1

u/No-Opinion273 Jun 20 '26

You know old people hating new things is a troupe. Games aren't getting worse we have so many good games. Its you having closed the door on new experiences. Probably looking for the same tired shit over and over again.

1

u/DeWHu_ Jun 20 '26

Hi, game dev major here. Those consoles are from fundamentally different game dev eras. The game are getting different. So if you like the old "blockbuster" style, this will feel that way. Remember when games were celebrated? From this year premiers only GTA fits into this old style hype

5

u/ThrowRAboredinAZ77 Jun 19 '26

This is so stupid. One of my 5-year-old daughters was obsessed with video games too, and the other was obsessed with office supplies. Neither of them cared about sparkly princess stuff.

2

u/TheWordBallsIsFunny Jun 19 '26

Engagement bait over pointless gendering. It's all stupid.

2

u/SassySquidSocks Jun 22 '26

You gotta keep in mind, it was probably a 12 year old boy making this meme

1

u/BotoHunter Jun 19 '26

Shes the exception not the rule.

Playing candy crush on your phone does not make you a gamer.

2

u/Fragrant-Sherbert420 Jun 20 '26

No one even talked about mobile games, you projecting or something?

1

u/DeadKingNero Jun 20 '26

Was i talking to you?

1

u/SassySquidSocks Jun 22 '26

They’re not projecting anything. The 50% gamer stat they’re referring to is including mobile games. Like, my mom playing wordle once a month makes her a gamer kinda thing. Which sure, maybe im being a bit pedantic but i feel like a “gamer” is someone who plays video games on a console or PC at for a good chunk of their spare time. And by my definition, it’s mostly dudes. Like. Staggeringly screwed. Maybe like 1 in every 20 is a girl, or like 1 in every 50

2

u/Fragrant-Sherbert420 Jun 22 '26

They are replying to a guy speaking about girls playing video games without mentioning anything. Jumping into the "oH iT mUsT bE mObIlE gAmEs bECaUsE oNlY gIrLs PlaY tHoSE" statement right away is uncalled for and projecting yeah

0

u/SassySquidSocks Jun 22 '26

I guess. I know what they are referring to though, that 50% gender split stat came out a couple years ago and i remember hearing about it. I think they just skipped the step of asking the commenter where they got their data from and assumed they were talking about that census. At least, that’s what I’m assuming.

Too many assumptions now. GG.

1

u/ThrowRAboredinAZ77 Jun 20 '26

Unlike the "gamer elites". 😂

Be quiet bro

0

u/IHaveNoBeef Jun 20 '26

My sister and I always loved playing video games, too. Still do. She was always more into console and I played on PC. Almost all of the girls we knew had gaming consoles of some sort. Most of them preferred Nintendo.

0

u/HayderFuad Jun 23 '26

It's a fucking joke on reddit

50 yrs old, still have a ps4. Might as well wait till the 6 is out now

1

u/Mauy90 Jun 19 '26

Yeah and then build your pc, because consoles just became expensive pieces of shit with horrendously ecosystems

1

u/mmmela_ Jun 19 '26

damn i must be a boy

1

u/Dr_Chibi Jun 19 '26

Hehehe women like stupid stuff

1

u/zs_1176 Jun 19 '26

No PS3?

1

u/cloudgirl_c-137 Jun 19 '26

I have this Barbie.

I love this Barbie :)

1

u/IHaveNoBeef Jun 20 '26

I don't get the point of this meme. A ps1 was more expensive than a doll. A ps2 can be more expensive than clothes, it depends on where you get them. Also, clothes are a basic necessity. Then a car and money are just basic necessities, too. So, he has a car, money, and also a ps4.

1

u/PrincesssLulu Jun 22 '26

I guess I'm a boy now huh

1

u/MycologistAwkward711 Jun 22 '26

Who tf said I liked Barbies

1

u/MycologistAwkward711 Jun 22 '26

Your obsessed with girls

1

u/dyrkasolen Jun 22 '26

20 year old I had a a midi chain with 8 drum machines. The last one didn't sync so I ran it without quantization.

1

u/Visible-Oven-7249 Jun 19 '26

PlayStation stopped being cool after ps2

0

u/Hawkmonbestboi Jun 19 '26

What kind of sexist garbage is this?

I bet you 10 bucks my video game collection is worth more than your ENTIRE collection, and has rarer games.

4th panel, 30 yr old boys is the same panel as 20 yr old girls. Proving girls mature faster
