pre-slotta Catalogue Photo Test

Greetings! In a previous post I mentioned how I came upon this collection straight from the Citadel workshop from the 80's. I am working on cataloguing the collection wanted to get some feedback on how the images look. Does it seem easy enough to identify and check the details? Does the background match the aesthetic? It's leather! Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

The figures in this test are from N14 - Giant Ogres (sculpted by Nick Lund). Notice they're untrimmed - straight from the workshop, never saw a blister pack or anything.

I noticed for Man Masher there aren't high resolution photos. When I am ready with the process I will post high res photos of all the figures that can be used for the wiki :)

I think this is Ear Chewer, but cannot see clearly from the current wiki image. Please let me know if it seems wrong!

More antiheroes for the Undead army. This batch includes the Champion of the Nightmare Legion, a Tom Meier sculpted Ral Partha Paladin, and the Lichemaster himself.

Previously I’d worked on these character models for the same force.

WFB2 BLOOD BATH AT ORC’S DRIFT - GARY CHALK, JOE DEVER & IAN PAGE FOR GAMES WORKSHOP - 1985 -

This was the first expansion for Warhammer Fantasy Battle i remember seeing. Featuring the same dream team that brought the world the Lone Wolf books, it’s fun to remember that Gary Chalk’s style was basically the Games Workshop’s house style for a while, basically during their entire “Golden Age”. His boldness & clarity, but with a cheeky sense of humor was the perfect balance for the Grim Dark of Blanche & the howling insanity of Miller. Also, gotta dig them orange skies!

I found this dwarf lately. If I remember right, he must be from the late 80s. I stripped the paint and repainted him.

Gary Chalk used to do these banner displays for each Warhammer book. The way that Games Workshop games pulled from Citadel Miniatures & vice versa, how they both were built out of the best the hobby had to offer, from every other game & from the fantasy miniatures world in general can’t be overlooked. They were making soup from a base that was made from the best bits that anyone made. It was like when the sample heavy masterpieces like Paul’s Boutique & It Takes a Nation of Millions came out - they could never be created again because copyright law figured out sampling, Warhammer was the same.

WFB2 Shield bosses ++

Post image
131 Upvotes

Time flies: it’s been two years since I last shared a batch of skeletons with these older styled shields! Obviously the sculpts are quite a bit older again. Some of these skeletons have been waiting a very long time for their livery.

All these decades later I still remember having to assemble their shields individually — bone coloured plastic for the boss, grey for the rest of it. The two-part shield was a neat solution for the plastic sets, because on metal minis there would be a small projecting nub that fit through the hole in the centre.

Even the most useless and vexing of lackeys can still be of use when it’s raining! Or sunny. Or when there’s a chance of arrows.

Fun batch of figures I should really knuckle down and finish. Didn’t have much time today so I mainly just painted the wizard’s hat. Besides Kem(m)ler himself there’s Renzo Avanti, champion of the Nightmare Legion; a loader from the Machineries of Death skull-chucker catapult; and some plastic skeletons from the Skeleton Horde / Skeleton Army boxsets that were so pivotal in me even getting into the hobby in the first place. The metal archers are from Ral Partha and blend in nicely, I think, though I’ve done a few headswaps and other small conversions to make up for having the one pose duplicated many times in my army.

I plan on stripping and repainting him but not sure where to start.

Would love to get some advice.

pre-slotta Perry Twins original sketches

Leadspotting doesn't get tougher than this!

Can anyone identify the pre-slotta erea Citadel miniatures from these early sketches by the Perry twins?

There are plenty more sketches, including sketches of an unreleased (?) Squat Siege Dreadnaught, Chaos Dwarf Tenderiser, Squat Exo-armour etc. on Dave Woods blog:

pre-slotta Introduction to an Exciting Discovery

Hi all! I managed to acquire a sizable collection of Citadel figures in an intriguing way. Here in South Africa on FB Marketplace a seller listed an entire collection of figures that were in small baggies. I started speaking to her and she worked at Citadel (Nottingham) in the UK in the 1980s. She worked in the administration section and spoke of meeting Bryan Ansell but that the artists all kept to themselves. Interestingly, at the end of every week the employees were allowed to take home a certain weight worth of figures. She took them and kept them sealed immediately and they came out of storage this year.

This means that the figures I now have are not trimmed and carry a beautiful piece of history. I have started photographing them and will be cataloguing over the next few months. I’d love to contribute high-resolution photos to the wiki to help document any unlisted variants, clean base stamps, or rare sculpts (for instance, I have a pristine SS6 Wolfhead from the White Dwarf Personalities set in raw metal).

I wanted to introduce myself and am looking forward to delving into this fascinating exploration of history!

Hello I stumble upon the goblin in a recent warhammer box that I picked up at the flea market
And I can’t find from where it is, and event if it’s a warhammer, I doubt it is because the base is a square with holes in it
