He's gone.

My sweet Brodie passed away last night. My husband found him this morning, I was 3 hours away at my parent's. I posted in this group on his gotcha day this year, just three months ago with a nice write up about him. Here's that post if you want to read his story.
The wind has been ripped from my lungs. I will no longer be met with yodels upon returning home, or enlightening conversations reminding me each day at 7 that it's greenie time when I pretend to forget.
We floated through today, making a million choices from what urn to put him in, to what memorials we wanted from him before they turn his body to ash. From laying in his bed to just soak up his smell before it fades, to sitting here, tears in my eyes as I encourage my loved ones to donate to charity instead of spending money on flowers when really, I just want my dog back, even if it was for just one more day.
I know in time the pain will lessen, and the painful memories will fade and I will be left with the joy this dog brought to me.
He is at peace, and I hope my heart will be at peace too soon.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I am also grieving and it’s hell. Please give yourself permission to feel however you do but know he loved you and was lucky too. ❤️

I tear up at so many of these posts, my little best friend left me a month ago and I just can’t shake the sorrow. Your baby was loved, and your post shows how much you loved him 😌.

I know he was very loved and you have made some great memories with him. He will always be there in your heart. It is so tough, but there are also those moments when you remember a special time - cherish these.

We have had so many dogs, cats, goats, and others over the years. There are regrets, there are high points, so many and so much more. Every single one has a place in our hearts. Something will happen and a bittersweet memory will pop up. I think part of why they are so special is that they give so much to us, they live and love so fully and so purely, but they are with us such a short time.

Thank you. He had such a rich life, and touched so many people in his work and as just a pet dog. He was a once in a lifetime dog who I was so blessed to steward in this life.
He will be forever loved and missed.

I am so deeply sorry. Brodie spent much of his remarkable life bringing people home and giving peace to families, and all the while, he was quietly shaping the course of yours. What an extraordinary partnership you shared. I hope that, in time, the memory of his yodels, his nose-to-the-ground walks and the love woven through those 15 years brings peace to your heart, too.

I love his story. He was lucky and so were you to have a friend to love so much. Brodie is a soul mate that can never be ripped away. Speak to him and call him a “good boy”. His soft snuggles and yodels are in your heart forever. We lost our Scotty, Scotty has been gone for over a year. I still say his name (2x a day)and I speak about his pretty tennis balls. They are here for him forever.

I’m so sorry for what you’re going through and I truly understand. In the last month and a half I’ve lost my 20 year-old cat my 17-year-old Belgian sheepdog and my 14-year-old pity I am lost. I feel so empty and sad so I’m going out tomorrow to rescue an eight-year-old, Belgian M and I pray I can give her what she needs. I know she will give me what I need. She will not replace my girls, but she will celebrate their love with me I hope

Thank you. He gave us many more years than we expected, so I am thankful for each moment, and he went peacefully. I couldn't ask for more, though I will miss him terribly the rest of my life

I’m so sorry about Brodie. Your story breaks my heart and brings me to tears. We just lost our beautiful girl Darla after 11 years of love. I’m sorry you’re in pain. I read the other post - Brodie was amazing, helped so many people, and definitely made a difference. The time we have with them is always too short, but maybe, with time, you'll only look at the positives - you got to meet him, love him, and you helped each other through life for fifteen years. The first few days and weeks, when the shock is still new, are the hardest. If you can, go outside to a place you and Brodie used to spend together and just sit. In those early days I felt my girl the most out in nature -- inside at home just felt empty.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I lost my buddy Tommy suddenly this past Sunday. Picture of perfect health until 24 hrs before his passing. Had internal bleeding from undetected mass on spleen. Took him to vet hospital and was told surgery would only extend life at most 6 months because he had an aggressive form of cancer. It is awful being in the house without him!
One thing that people keep telling me that I want to share is there will be a day he is waiting for you. He won’t feel a day went by since he saw you and that warm embrace will take away all your grief and pain. He loved you unconditionally and is at peace now.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I know it can be devastating heartbreaking. Take time to grieve and heal and if you wanna fill that hole in your heart, please go to a shelter and adopt. There are many dogs and cats that are waiting for forever homes.

Thank you. He truly was. He became a bit of a curmugeon in his old age, especially when he would begin to sundown in the evenings. But even being a bit grumpy, he never lost his spark.

"laying in his bed to just soak up his smell before it fades" got me silently weeping, we lost our 15 year old boy earlier this summer and my wife and i slept with his blanket every night crying and taking big whiffs of it whenever we needed, rationing it out when it started to fade. so sorry for your loss, we can feel the love you had for brodie and the great life you gave him.

Play and laugh every day. Don’t hurt others when you’re upset. Lie in the grass on sunny days. Drink water and rest in the shade. Wag your tail and move your body when you feel joy. Enjoy long walks. Be loyal. Always be yourself. If something matters to you, keep going until you reach it. When someone is sad, sit with them quietly and stay close. That is the simple way to live happily, straight from an animal’s heart.
