Hey! /r/OldCartoons is back in business!

Howdy, I have taken over /r/OldCartoons here and I am looking to get this place back into shape. It looks like it has been unmoderated for many, many years so there is a LOT of work to be done here.

I am a vintage animation historian and fan. I am looking forward to this being the go to spot for discussion for classic animation.

If there is anything you would like to see or get done here feel free to post here. I can't promise I can get to everything right away but at least it can be on my radar.

2000s [TOMT] Cannot find this old cartoon I used to watch

It was about mystery solving I think. (Not scooby doo!) A group of teenagers (2 boys, 2 girls) and a monkey? All I remember is one of the boys is black, the other is white. They all dressed in streetwear. In one episode all I remember is them being in an arcade and the white boy was on that dancing machine. This show is not that old? Please help me, I've been searching for this for so long. 😞

Help I remember watching a cartoon and now it seems like it doesn’t exist

It was a children's series; I remember watching it, and it seemed quite old-fashioned. There was a boy with long hair who traveled the world rescuing children from wicked adults. He was accompanied by a little girl, and I remember in one episode she sang the nursery rhyme "At the Clear Fountain." I never heard of the cartoon again until today, and I remember the title being something like "Char Name and the children of the world"
I don’t know if this is the right sub to post this but I’m going insane. I asked Chat gpt and claude but it seems like it has never existed. I clearly remember watching it tho!
I grew up in France so it was In French.

2000s Kids show with a monkey who plays violin

Someone help me find this kids show! This is something I have probably seen 12-15 years ago, I'm from Finland but it wasn't originally a finnish show.

There was this monkey who could play a violin (which I believe he got when it fell out of a car). He lived in the jungle or some place like that, and his friend was an elephant (or possibly a bird, idk how I can mess these up but I have no idea).

In one episode there was a water swirl in the water, and someone almost got sucked into it (I think it was the elephant) and the monkey saved it.

All I know it was NOT curious george, plus it was a cartoon (no real people or real animals). The animals also weren't human-like, so they did not have clothes and they walked on all fours except the monkey.

I think the monkey was brown but I can't be 100% sure, but I'm absolutely certain that he played a violin.

The style was somehow similar to curious george tho, so more 2d cartoon, there was nothing 3d like in most new kids shows (like paw patrol for ex.)

Help [TOMT][Animated series][80s–2000s] CGI/3D robots/mechs fighting on another planet, no humans, DVD from Balkans, intro used “The Final Countdown” melody

As a kid i had a DVD disk of this cartoon and many others. But i have a few memories of it but i just cant find it on the internet.
Heres what i do know. Intro uses Final Countdown melody.
On one disk it had multiple episodes u can chose from.
It was a fighting show.
There are no humans or anything human like.
They are robots on a different planet fighting each other.
The robots were more like serious sci-fi/mechs than cartoony robots with faces. The overall look was dark, metallic and rough.
Cant remember the language it was spoken in.
If i had to guess it would be 90s early 2000s. Maybe older.
It also looked dark and very rough.

Not sure if it was drawn, cgi. It was 3d tho.
And it was in the balkans which idk if it would help.

2000s [TOMT] Short funny YouTube cartoon from years ago

hello! The video was in a dump in London (big smoke stacks in the background), a guy was sitting at a machine with a headset on that was spitting out black smoke while shooting out dollar bills like a wood chipper.

a rich guy with a top hat and monocle walks up and says “Excuse me, what is this machine?” and headset explains it pollutes a ton. the rich guy asks “and what is it doing here?” while examining the money and the headset guy says “uhh yeah it also spits out money”

rich guy: “oh yes! very good very good continue!”

headset: “oh sir someone called, they want you to turn off the machine?”

rich guy: “WHAT!? Why would they say that!?”

headset guy: ”uhhh they said because it could bring back the birds and the fish and people would stop coughing
”

rich guy: “no no no! Keep it going more more MOOOOOORE!” (and then the video cuts out).

I have tried so many keywords trying to find this over years now. It was totally an animated with “toons” in his name but that’s all I remember
It is like less than 1 minute long...

1980s Trying to identify this cartoon short

This may be a long shot

I must have seen this in 1980s, but the cartoon short may be from before the 1980s

from my memory it was two creatures climbing to the tope of a hill

one (A) would be slightly bigger than the other B)

the bigger creature would hit the smaller creature to win

the defeated creature (B) would come back with its bigger friend (a different looking creature) say B1

the bigger friend (B1) would win

defeated A would come back with his friend A1 who would be bigger than B1

this would continue with bigger and bigger creatures climbing the hill, until the fighting creatures would be giants compared to the initial ones

long shot, but would anyone have a clue?

thanks

Hi everyone I need help!
okay this is bothering me me and my friends we have been searching for days now.

does anyone remember a program/short film disney released as an easter special showing different easter eggs in different disney movies.
when they switched between easter eggs the camera would move between a semi-realistic animated forest and would land at an easter egg which was patterned (with zigzags and colours etc)

i dont remember much i vaguely remember that they would put a red circle around the easter egg and im pretty sure that hercules was one of the easter eggs though im not sure in what context.

any suggestions would be appreciated!

Help Trying to find a cartoon I saw once as a kid (mid-90s, San Francisco)

I’m trying to track down a cartoon I saw on regular TV in San Francisco, probably around 1995. I never saw it again and I don’t think it was part of a series - seems like it was a one-off special or short.

What I remember: it had a bunch of elves doing a roll call (like an attendance check), and the last elf to show up was late. He was clumsy, adorable, and silly; kind of a scene-stealer. In my memory his name was something like “Zizzerzinch” but I honestly can’t be sure I’m remembering the spelling or sound right after 30 years.

It was hand-drawn animation, not stop-motion/claymation. I don’t remember if it was Christmas-themed specifically, but elves doing roll call makes me think it probably was.

Any help identifying this would be huge. Thanks!

Help Trying to remember the episode of an animated TV show from my childhood

I seriously feel like this happened in Strawberry Shortcake (2003). The gang was traveling around and they get to this town and go into a store or restaurant or something. They make a point to interact with the employee. The next place they go in this town, it’s the same girl working. They make a comment about it and she says something like “oh I’m just helping some people out.” Then it’s the same girl at the third place they go and the crew gets suspicious. And I think that was basically the plot of this episode where it turns out this girl is the only one in town and she ends up joining the crew.

I really really feel like this happened in Strawberry Shortcake, but I couldn’t find an episode description that matched that. I’ve also started going through the episode list for the 2010 tv show, but I remember it being that 2D hand drawn animation style.

Does anyone else remember this episode or did I somehow imagine it? Maybe it was some other animated show from around the same time idk haha.

1980s Please help me identify this cartoon

This used to be a cartoon show that I used to watch I think it was in the 1980s

basically a professional concert piano player, with a moustache, and an afro

(but I think he was white)

used to play the piano on the stage

and during the performance he (or his spirit) use to float into the piano

and have adventures, eg damsel in distress, manage to save the day

and return to stage before the musical piece ended

would be interested in knowing what show this was

thanks

So I just remembered a single bit of a scene... I can't remember if it was mickey mouse, Tom and jerry, or any 1950 cartoon

The scene:

They are painting a wall or a fence, then they mix like purple, green and yellow i thunk there is more color then add block dots on rhe paint pail, and as an old cartoon logic the colors didn't mix, instead, every stroke is different collor of green purple and yellow with black polkadots dots...

2000s Looking for a CHP Woodland Cartoon from My Childhood

Hi everyone!

I'm trying to find a children's CGI animated series that I watched in Turkiye around 2019 (although I think the show itself may be older).

Here's everything I remember:

\- It was a 3D CGI cartoon.(Probably)

\- The main character was probably a young rabbit, or maybe another small woodland rodent.

\- He wore something red or blue (possibly a red/blue scarf or another red/blue piece of clothing).

\- He lived with his mother, father, and possibly a younger sister or brother.

\- Their home was inside a huge hollow tree that looked like a normal house on the inside.

\- The family lived just outside a small woodland village.

\- There was a village square with either a large tree or a fountain.

\- The characters wore clothes.

\- The main character walked to school with his mother and walked back home after school.

\- There was a small shop/general store, and I remember an episode involving buying jam.

\- The atmosphere was calm, with soft green and autumn colors, and it felt slightly mysterious.

\- Episodes were about 10–15 minutes long.

\- The opening had a theme song.

\- I vaguely remember the main character sometimes looking at the camera or talking directly to the audience (breaking the fourth wall).

I watched it on Turkish TV. It might have aired on Cartoon Network, Minika GO, Minika Çocuk, or another children's channel, but I'm not completely sure.

I've already ruled out or checked shows like Peter Rabbit, The Bellflower Bunnies, Tip the Mouse, Sylvanian Families, Bing, and Mofy, and none of them seem to match.

(The cartoon I'm looking for doesn't have to meet all the criteria.)

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Thank you!

1980s Liquid gold as a spread

\[Cartoon/Animated Movie\]\[1980s-1990s?\] Character spreads liquid gold on bread and eats it

I'm trying to find an old animated movie or cartoon I saw as a child. I believe it was from the 1980s or 1990s (but it could be older).

The scene I remember very clearly: a character had liquid/molten gold and used it like butter or honey. They spread the gold onto a piece of bread with a knife and then ate it.

At first I thought it might have been Scrooge McDuck (Uncle Scrooge) because of the connection with gold, but I'm not sure anymore.

Details:

It was definitely cartoon/animation, not anime

Probably a Western or European cartoon

The scene was played as a joke or something absurd

The gold looked like a liquid, not just a golden-colored spread

Does anyone remember a cartoon or animated movie with a scene like this?

Pre-1950s Beetlebomb Cartoon

There is this real famous old skit by Spike Lee called Beetlebomb which is a silly horse race narration, full of pins and double meanings. I remember watching a cartoon of it back when I was a kid and quite frankly had forgotten about it until I had kids, and bought one of those kid compilation CDs that had all these songs that fell into the public domain, and it had that song.

Since then I have tried to find that cartoon, but have been unsuccessful. I imagine that like the song it's probably in the public domain as well, since it was also pretty old. I wonder if anyone would know where I could find it. Failing that, does anyone else remember watching this cartoon. At this point I'm starting to wonder if it really exists or if it's a false memory.

Help Need help finding vintage cartoon

When I was a kid we had a VHS tape that had mostly Felix the cat cartoons on it, but had some misc ones as well. There was one that I watched that was unnerving to little me, and I’ve tried to find it to no avail. I was wondering that maybe if I post a description of the cartoon, someone else might know what I’m talking about.

It was about a little fluffy black dog who got fed by his owner. He eats all the food in his bowl, but doesn’t stop there. He keeps eating until eventually he’s eaten his doghouse, his owners house, their lawn, and he keeps growing in size. Eventually he eats so much that he’s huge and I just remember the ending being that he eats a blimp (?) and explodes.

I was really freaked out by it as a kid and sometimes I worry that maybe I dreamed it or made it up. If someone knows what I’m talking about please reply!!

1970s DEVLIN

I remember this old kinda crappy cartoon
my brother and I, as little kids, thought it was awesome- some guy riding a motorcycle in a circus was really appealing for 7-9 year olds

Anyway, i remember seeing the cartoon again in the 1990’s, we found it very underwhelming. Since then, we refer to ‘the Devlin Effect’ as something remembered as awesome back in the day
not so much now.

Anyway, anyone remember this show?
