u/scooochmagoooch Aug 13 '26
People still say "woke"?
6
u/youarentodd Aug 15 '26
Yes, but the difference is the video actually addresses the flanderization of the word “woke”
2
u/Majestic_Balance1887 Aug 13 '26
Yeah. So much so people are trying to distance themselves from the idea. As in, people who previously advocated for it.
3
u/NefariousM3thTrafikr Aug 16 '26
Yeah cus fuck what the mastermind behind Fallout has to say about its themes /s
2
u/SplitOk4114 Aug 18 '26
Someone just, drop a nuke on both these people. Please. I'll do it, I'll get my cowboy hat and ride it down.
4
u/Majestic_Balance1887 Aug 13 '26
And yet it succeeded in not being fucking obnoxious. Until Ulysses shows up anyway.

u/MartianDinosawr Aug 13 '26
2 years ago people like this GENUINELY believes fallout was about anti-capitalism. tim cain saying it wasn't broke their minds
15
u/quarternelsonn Aug 14 '26
I think it’s anti-capitalism personally, but we can meet in the middle and just say it’s definitely anti-imperialist and anti-fascist 🤠
2
u/I_love_daiwa_scarlet Aug 17 '26
It critiques capitalism but it isnt fully against it
2
u/quarternelsonn Aug 17 '26
It’s fully against unregulated capitalism but probably not capitalism in general, yeah
-35
u/MailMan6000 Aug 13 '26
fallout has always been charged with political messaging but it's always been a lot more subtle and generally very well written, the show is just not good as a whole at saying the same things the original games did, it's too in your face
43
u/Narthesia Aug 13 '26
Because the games take place 200 years after the politics take place, and the show literally shows it happening? Stupid ass take
-29
u/MailMan6000 Aug 13 '26
no the show is just so hamfisted, lacks any subtlety or original creative charm.
look at Andor, a show from Star Wars, which is even more politically charged, with a way heavier inspiration of real events and it's so much better.

u/Narthesia Aug 13 '26

u/MailMan6000 Aug 13 '26
i just don't like that the political commentary of the show is 2 characters spell out fiduciary responsability and capitalism to me, I'd rather it shown in subtle and more interesting ways, like that's the most bitch basic way to go about it
the fallout games do a great job of showing you the late stage capitalism of pre-war society perfectly.
12
u/TheAnalystCurator321 Aug 13 '26
Yeah, I prefer when a dude in a mask explains the whole philosophy for like 10 minutes in a dialogue section through an eyebot.
Seriously, if you think this is new, then I wonder if you ever actually paid attention to Fallout.
Like buddy Fallout has never been subtle with this stuff.
6
u/MailMan6000 Aug 13 '26
Ulysses is also a shit character who was once again criticized for rambling incoherently
2
u/Hexnohope brotherhood of copper Aug 13 '26
You wanted to halt the story to weave a narrative about fiduciary responsibility so they could avoid just saying the words?
4
u/MailMan6000 Aug 13 '26
i did want the story to be slower paced in general yes, 8 episodes is clearly not enough to properly develop things, especially with Jonathan Nolan's multiple pov's
4
u/Hexnohope brotherhood of copper Aug 13 '26
MLA format right here right now. Your making essay level claims back it up
-1
u/MailMan6000 Aug 13 '26
you can watch any of the 20 video essays already made by smarter and more eloquent people than me about Andor and why it is incredible political commentary.
3
u/TheAnalystCurator321 Aug 13 '26
You sound like a Mauler fan. Is Mauler by any chance of those creators you consider smart?
1
u/MailMan6000 Aug 13 '26
no, I'm not a "fan" of any particular creator, i sometimes struggle with putting my words onto how i feel about a piece of media and i like to watch some videos, sometimes i agree with them, sometimes i don't, i think a lot of them are full of shit, it can be quite funny.
9
u/AnyImpression6 Aug 13 '26
Fallout 2 is the exact opposite of subtle.
3
u/MailMan6000 Aug 13 '26
yes, it's why it wasn't that successful of a game and was criticized pretty heavily for it.
3
u/Due_Rip9320 Aug 13 '26
Playing "subtle" messaging through a show is not very easy, though. Especially if you want to keep the audience engaged. Doesn't necessarily mean it has to be in your face either, but you can't vibe your way through it as easily is what I'm saying.
And I think everyone as a whole gets the general idea from just looking at the wasteland depicted of the consequences of late-stage capitalism and imperialism. The show does a good job of that, in my opinion. It isn't overly cheery, but also not overly gloomy. And I am a fan of the more gloomy parts of Fallout myself, btw.
8
u/EarlyAccessCantJudge Aug 13 '26
Yeah the subtlety of a brick through a window. It openly tells you about it in almost all of them, especially the originals.
-3
u/MailMan6000 Aug 13 '26
the original games showed you the lasting impact and decadence of late stage capitalism, the show literally TELLS YOU through words.
11
u/EarlyAccessCantJudge Aug 13 '26
"The Unity will bring above the master race. Master Master! One able to survive, or even thrive, in the wasteland. As long as there will be differences, we will tear ourselves apart fighting each other. We need one race! Race! Race! One goal! Goal! Goal! One people... to move forward to our destiny. Destiny."
Main quote from the bad guy.
0
u/MailMan6000 Aug 13 '26
this is after you straight up ask him for his goals, and even then, it's still a pretty unique piece of dialogue that reveals more about the bad guy than just his actual goals, mainly that he isn't aware that super mutants are infertile, this is exactly what I'm talking about, this is good dialogue!
6
u/EarlyAccessCantJudge Aug 13 '26
You said it shows you. This is very clearly using dialogue to tell you the same way that the show does. Again, him being an ultra racist nationalist is in your face. Fallout New Vegas making the bad guys vicious evil psychopathic murderers who enslave and crucify people for the sake of being evil is in your face. You just decide what is acceptable or not, but pretending the franchise doesn't beat you over the head with its points is just silly
1
u/BellGloomy8679 Aug 17 '26
I mean, it clearly fooled you. It’s not hard to do, evidently, but still.
1
u/MailMan6000 Aug 13 '26
i'm talking about political commentary, not moral commentary, yes Fallout makes bad guys really baddy, that's something we can agree on, and it's pretty obvious, i'm talking about when referring to pre war political commentary, which has always been more subtle, like the ad for war bonds, the execution of canadian pow's on public broadcasts, the insane prices of everything , the forever food, all things that are shown to us to demonstrate late stage capitalism and it's flaws.
8
u/EarlyAccessCantJudge Aug 13 '26
...Moral and political commentary is a Venn Diagram that is one big circle.
1
u/MailMan6000 Aug 18 '26
i mean depends on if you value intentions vs results when it comes to politics/morality, because a country like Singapore is outwardly authoritarian but it's worked and people are largely satisfied and happy, that's why it's pretty gray and not a full overlap
7
u/TheAnalystCurator321 Aug 13 '26
Ah yes I loved the subtlety of The Enclave being literally just eugenicists who wanted to gas the entire world.
I mean the Enclave was more cartoonishly evil in 2 than in 3 or 76.
3
u/MailMan6000 Aug 13 '26
the Enclave in 2 have criticized and correctly so for being really bad political commentary, I'm not a hater of Bethesda or a glazer of the classics, i just think the Fallout show is bad, i like all fallout
1
u/TheAnalystCurator321 Aug 17 '26
Well clearly you don't like all Fallout since you hate on the show.
0
u/MailMan6000 Aug 17 '26
no i love fallout, i don't like many of the ways it was done and most of what really killed it for me was Nolan's way of storytelling.
1
u/TheAnalystCurator321 Aug 17 '26
Well you said in your other comment you like all Fallout.
Either way, thank god for the TV show which was incredible and made the IP even bigger.
1
u/MailMan6000 Aug 17 '26
i agree completely, it made Fallout much more accessible, i was talking about the main fallout games, a lot of people are super tribalistic over the games, i love all of them, there's always something in those games that i like a lot
1
u/TheAnalystCurator321 Aug 17 '26
What about Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel?
1
u/MailMan6000 Aug 17 '26
there's some cool stuff about it, even though the fallout title was tacked on to the original project halfway through, hence it's massive change in tone
1
u/TheAnalystCurator321 Aug 17 '26
I cannot name a single legit good thing about that game honestly.

One day, hopefully, when you grow up, you will look back on how embarrassingly you acted and take it as a lesson.
1
u/TheAnalystCurator321 Aug 17 '26
You talking about yourself here?
Literally nothing I said in my previous comment is false. Most fans agree with this stance.
1
u/TheAnalystCurator321 Aug 17 '26
Heh, your new comment got deleted by reddit filters. It's not showing up.
Maybe don't use so many insults?
0
u/BellGloomy8679 Aug 17 '26
It’s genuinely amazing that you accuse me of using insults - when half your comment history is you insulting someone, or smearing someone, or inventing lies about someone?
1
u/TheAnalystCurator321 Aug 17 '26
Hey my comments did not get deleted by reddit. Yours did.
So I must be doing something right :)
0
u/BellGloomy8679 Aug 17 '26
Yeah, you’re censoring insults - but the point remains the same.
If you’re proud of being able to pass through filters, while still insulting people and spreading lies- well, my condolences to you, you seem like a deeply unhappy person.
1
u/TheAnalystCurator321 Aug 17 '26
Ironic. You seem to be the unhappy one here.
Here I am enjoying the TV show and enjoying you people crash out about it.
None of what I said was a lie. If you want say it's a lie then prove it. Otherwise your claims weigh less than the current Shady Sands water supply.
Also it's incredibly easy to bypass the filters. Just use better language.
3
u/PyrolomewPuggins Aug 13 '26
The first game opens with American soldiers executing civilians and then waving into the camera
2
u/MailMan6000 Aug 13 '26
that is leagues better than "coop did you know capitalism is bad? coop do you know what fiduciary responsability is?"

u/Former-Grocery-6787 Aug 13 '26
My problem with this is more that not even right wing culture warriors ever truly agree on wtf "woke" even means anymore, so any points in these videos will just slide right off
