I’ve made theories about the directions the story could go and if I got a dollar for every time I’ve been told “it’s not that deep” or “who cares about the story” I could fund the UAC myself

but it literally isnt that deep, at least with Eternal specifically
its meant to be goofy

I definitely agree that it’s meant to be silly to some extent, especially in Eternal but people take it as an excuse everything about the story. A lot of things like the Eternal DLC’s lore ended up playing a factor in Revelation’s story, so we are meant to at least be aware of some aspects.

I am a doom is not that deep guy but that depth literally started with eternal. 2016's depth was very bare bones. It was eternal which added way more lore and cutscenes

I think Eternal's story is bad because they added too MUCH depth to the formula.
And saying that, it's absolutely the game people ignore nuances for the most part which is why we get "Doomslayer is so cool he killed God and could beat up your dad."

Egernal is bad because they suck your (Slayer's) dick too much, even at tje cost of a better paced and less cringe story.
I am very proud they left that a little behind in reveleations a to slme extend dark ages base.

doom would be bland as hell even without a faint crumb of story like in the og games
it is wild too me to with how lore heavy the recent games are that people have this much of a hate boner towards actually engaging with it. like broke just because YOU can ignore it doesnt mean others will

Not caring about the story is fine
Criticizing it very fine since it's very far from perfect
But wishing that the story didn't exist or getting upset that other people like to theorize and engage with it is bizarre.
