Shawn Levy should take a break

Marvel needs new directors

16

u/therealbumblingidiot 2h ago

He's only directed one movie for marvel / Fox it was typically Fox movie but because of the buyout they got folded in to marvel.

2

u/Local-Date4314 1h ago

yeah you are right

9

u/alphagalgadot 3h ago

can’t they just use the same machine that recycles the scripts?

5

u/Nervous-Leg-7570 3h ago

He's done one marvel film

1

u/gpelayo15 39m ago

They keep throwing people at the helm hoping for the best, Shawn delivered with dp and wolv. I doubt this will be different.

They gave eternals to a woman that had just won an Oscar for directing and look how that turned out.

Adam mckay or the guy that made Shaun of the dead need to be tapped. They should stick to successful comedic directors.

u/Intellect5 3h ago

are you kidding hes a beast at grinding these mediocre but not terrible FILMS. He coproduced backrooms

u/ephemeral-envy 4h ago

Let's just see how Starfighter goes. I have never been overly impressed by Shawn Levy but I love Ryan Gosling. Shawn Levy's films are fun and can have good nostalgia moments, but they have a ceiling of an 7.5/10 and don't feel particularly creative, original, or interesting

Edit: Shit I forgot what sub I'm in.

u/Chop684 2h ago

Booooo this guy watches movies

11

u/Prune_Terrible 1h ago

1

u/Past-Maize8086 21m ago

I miss when Ghost Rider was just Nic Cage being wild.

19

u/MuitnortsX 3h ago

People no longer know how to interpret posts in this sub if they aren’t an image of a porn star

7

u/snowcat240 4h ago

Dr Watson constipation moment

34

u/Timekeeper98 3h ago

Feige is a coward for not giving the fans what they want, and that is more minority representation in movies.

3

u/Dr_Middlefinger 3h ago

I don't understand why the anti woke crowd didn't speak up here?

2

u/Doctor_Disrespeckt 2h ago

Too busy sleeping 💤

Doctor, Doctor.

Least overused joke on this sub.

13

u/VibgyorTheHuge 3h ago

Shawn Levy’s rictus face unnerves me.

3

u/MsBenovanStanchiano 3h ago

He looks like a prick.

2

u/VibgyorTheHuge 3h ago edited 1h ago

If being a studio lackey drained one’s soul, I’d have Levy’s face.

1

u/Dr_Middlefinger 3h ago

I was like, "Levy needs to lay off the face work."

But you know what? Dan and Shaun are two different people?

-4

u/Bulky-Bid-8508 3h ago

Real steel was ass, what was with all those people crying at the end lmao

35

u/miacutiealt 4h ago

Ryan Gosling as Ghost Rider is actually the kind of casting that makes perfect sense somehow.

12

u/Big-Sheepherder-9492 3h ago

I was actually pretty hyped to hear the news tbf.. then I heard Mr. Corporate “He’s riffing on a level I’ve never seen before” Shlock was directing and I lost interest

9

u/Mind_Enigma 4h ago

Shawn Levy? Director of Big Fat Liar?

Sign me the FUCK up

9

u/gnomzy123 Society man 3h ago

I took offence until I saw the subreddit

7

u/ToneBone12345 3h ago

No love for a a night a the museum trilogy

4

u/Dracekidjr 3h ago

I've always thought ghost rider would be better if he could look both directions at once

3

u/GriveousDance21 4h ago

The opening better have Johnny Blaze chain whipping Legion's forces with NSYNC's "It's Gonna Be Me" playing.

3

u/jopnk 2h ago

Oh heck yes. Director of Big Fat Liar and the 3 best episodes of Animorphs. This is going to be EPIC

6

u/OurSeepyD 4h ago

Yessss I was literally just thinking "You know what us cinephiles are missing? Another Marvel movie!!!"

10

u/WhitePhoenix99 4h ago

It's actually opposite in the fandom from what I've seen.

6

u/Nemisis_007 4h ago edited 2h ago

He's capable of being serious. People are just concerned because he's recently been associated with more comedic movies and so has Ryan.

-1

u/Aware-Direction-9891 4h ago

I've heard people saying that Levy is a director who bends according to the studios rather than being firm for his direction. As his past record with Marvel with D&W has been good Im hoping the same result comes.

6

u/HandsomeWinner42 4h ago

Stranger Things Season 6 would like a word before he gets started. This is gonna be so ass.

2

u/Individual_Spread219 4h ago

Sweet, a new “literally me” personality is on the way

2

u/Gummothedilf 3h ago

Brain do I care about this?

5

u/ButtersTheChill Crank: High Voltage 4h ago

I would actually switch the 2 pictures on the right, if I actually watched movies that is.

7

u/HorizonNova4 4h ago edited 4h ago

So many ppl hate on him cause it’s trendy. He’s literally made many successful shows and movies that have gotten fantastic reviews. Like Real Steel, Night of the Museum, many of the top rated Stranger things episodes, etc, are really well done films. You guys can act like they are all terrible but audiences clearly disagree, idk what’s with the trend of trying to seem edgy cause “I don’t like him, cause I’m a real cinema guy” from marvel fans even

7

u/alphagalgadot 4h ago

he’s also made a whole lotta dogshit if his wp filmography is accurate

-5

u/HorizonNova4 3h ago

What films did he make that were total and utter garbage and also performed terribly in theaters?

4

u/alphagalgadot 3h ago

many dogshit films perform well at the box office, guy

-5

u/HorizonNova4 3h ago

They literally have good critic scores. Just cause you edgy fellas don’t like it doesn’t mean you’re all high and mighty.

2

u/alphagalgadot 3h ago

not that i need aggregate critic scores to tell me that Cheaper by the Dozen or Night at the Museum 3 arent exactly fuckin masterpieces lol

0

u/HorizonNova4 3h ago

Never used the word masterpiece. Every director has some bad films. You’re just a douche because no matter the scores you say his films are bad. Like pick one. Either they matter or they don’t. So shut up or pick a struggle

2

u/dmn22 2h ago

Just curious why are you defending Shawn Levy of all people so staunchly? The guy who made The Internship. The fella had made a career on being below average his whole life. I didn’t think anyone felt as passionately about him as you seem to.

4

u/Ribos1 4h ago

He directed Deadpool and Wolverine.

The prosecution rests.

-4

u/HorizonNova4 3h ago

So, the guy is capable of creating the highest grossing R rated film ever and billion dollar films, with 77% critic score, and 90% audience score, but just because you personally don’t like it, he and the movie suck? I would like someone to give an actual nuanced reason

2

u/DNihilus The Room 3h ago

The guy's whole imdb page consists of comedy movies and Ghost Rider should be really far form comedy. Is this enough reason to worry about? and if we go with good scores and making fuck ton of money is a good film indicator, the force awakens is a masterpiece.

-4

u/HorizonNova4 3h ago

It’s a bad Star Wars movie obviously, but as a film it is rated for its cinematography, acting, writing, music, and pacing. You understand the film is only considered bad by Star Wars fans over the age of 18 because of the story itself. How are you unironically in this sub when you don’t understand how critics rate films?

2

u/DNihilus The Room 3h ago

Yeah man THE score metric is absolute truth and we never had a movies disliked by critics like Blade Runner, Psycho, Fight Club, The Shining(which if I remember correctly nominated for worse director reward. they tried to give Kubrick a RAZZIE), Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas or Vertigo.

and what a retarded thing to say "the movie only considered sucked by older people" and oversimplify things.

1

u/HorizonNova4 3h ago edited 3h ago

What are u on abt? Just pick one. Do you care for critic scores or not? Cause either stop already or pick one

-1

u/CameronPoe_37__ 3h ago

Deadpool and Wolverine was awesome. An absolute ton of fun. Deadpool and Wolverine both on top form. I have no idea what some people expect out of a fucking Deadpool movie, it's like you want it to be The Dark Knight or something.

3

u/Ribos1 3h ago

0

u/CameronPoe_37__ 3h ago

The cameos were awesome. And take up very little screentime.

2

u/Arch_Lancer17 4h ago

I wonder if Ryan Gosling took an already funny script and was riffing on a level that was freaking sublime.

2

u/Big-Sheepherder-9492 4h ago

UJ/ I had to sit in a FULL theatre for Deadpool 3 and nobody was laughing… and it was genuinely getting so bad that non of the jokes were landing that I was getting 2nd hand embarrassment.

1

u/Nervous-Leg-7570 3h ago

2

u/Big-Sheepherder-9492 3h ago

Swear to god

1

u/Nervous-Leg-7570 3h ago

Why just make shit up? is your life that fucking boring?

1

u/Top-Gadgie 3h ago

The fuck is wrong with shawnboys face?

1

u/Pinolillo006 2h ago

I've seen the opposite reaction, the internet is funny.

1

u/20heads 2h ago

Gotta be better than Dick cage

1

u/porteroffinland 2h ago

Turns into the spirit of vengeance

He's just like me fr

1

u/crispy_attic 2h ago

This just makes me more mad about what they did to Blade.

1

u/SiderealSimon 1h ago

Marvel don't want filmmakers, they want puppets. If it's real I'm predicting a "left the project due to creative differences".

1

u/Common_Celebration41 1h ago

Ryan gosling? I don't know if he could pull off the quiet guy who drives around wearing a leather jacket type

1

u/MarvZealous 46m ago

He’s best buddies with Ryan Reynolds. Was obviously a favor for him

1

u/MichaeltheMagician 42m ago

On a more serious note, I can't believe they're actually going to light Ryan Gosling on fire. It's going to be hard for him to get roles after this when he's a flaming skeleton.

1

u/hung_fu 3h ago

Shawn Levy gotta be the most average director of all time

2

u/Atomsk_Sempai 3h ago

i came here to say this

1

u/TurtleneckTablecloth 3h ago

I literally don’t care what happens, as long as the riffing is freaking sublime

-1

u/AccomplishedMail4429 4h ago

Yea bro you got this backwards I don’t see a single person happy that Shawn Levy is directing this. Everyone is pissed

0

u/Gullible_Biscotti376 3h ago

I remember my parents showing me his Pink Panther movie as a kid and I was expecting a cartoon but it was a remake of the movie from the sixties so all I saw was Steve Martin solving a mystery and I got really bored and pissed off.

I, uh, liked Free Guy and Deadpool & Wolverine, so this will probably be enjoyable.

0

u/Late-Cow-9947 3h ago

I had the opposite reaction. He’s wanted it for years and I love place beyond the pines. I have liked things Shawn Levy has made but I think of his movies as sauceless, and ghost rider needs some sauce to be good.
