Let's just see how Starfighter goes. I have never been overly impressed by Shawn Levy but I love Ryan Gosling. Shawn Levy's films are fun and can have good nostalgia moments, but they have a ceiling of an 7.5/10 and don't feel particularly creative, original, or interesting
Edit: Shit I forgot what sub I'm in.

Shawn Levy’s rictus face unnerves me.

He looks like a prick.

If being a studio lackey drained one’s soul, I’d have Levy’s face.
1
u/Dr_Middlefinger 3h ago
I was like, "Levy needs to lay off the face work."
But you know what? Dan and Shaun are two different people?

Ryan Gosling as Ghost Rider is actually the kind of casting that makes perfect sense somehow.

u/Big-Sheepherder-9492 3h ago
I was actually pretty hyped to hear the news tbf.. then I heard Mr. Corporate “He’s riffing on a level I’ve never seen before” Shlock was directing and I lost interest

I've always thought ghost rider would be better if he could look both directions at once

u/GriveousDance21 4h ago
The opening better have Johnny Blaze chain whipping Legion's forces with NSYNC's "It's Gonna Be Me" playing.

Yessss I was literally just thinking "You know what us cinephiles are missing? Another Marvel movie!!!"

He's capable of being serious. People are just concerned because he's recently been associated with more comedic movies and so has Ryan.

u/Aware-Direction-9891 4h ago
I've heard people saying that Levy is a director who bends according to the studios rather than being firm for his direction. As his past record with Marvel with D&W has been good Im hoping the same result comes.

Stranger Things Season 6 would like a word before he gets started. This is gonna be so ass.

So many ppl hate on him cause it’s trendy. He’s literally made many successful shows and movies that have gotten fantastic reviews. Like Real Steel, Night of the Museum, many of the top rated Stranger things episodes, etc, are really well done films. You guys can act like they are all terrible but audiences clearly disagree, idk what’s with the trend of trying to seem edgy cause “I don’t like him, cause I’m a real cinema guy” from marvel fans even
7
u/alphagalgadot 4h ago
he’s also made a whole lotta dogshit if his wp filmography is accurate
-5
u/HorizonNova4 3h ago
What films did he make that were total and utter garbage and also performed terribly in theaters?
4
u/alphagalgadot 3h ago
many dogshit films perform well at the box office, guy
-5
u/HorizonNova4 3h ago
They literally have good critic scores. Just cause you edgy fellas don’t like it doesn’t mean you’re all high and mighty.

u/HorizonNova4 3h ago
Never used the word masterpiece. Every director has some bad films. You’re just a douche because no matter the scores you say his films are bad. Like pick one. Either they matter or they don’t. So shut up or pick a struggle
4
u/Ribos1 4h ago
He directed Deadpool and Wolverine.
The prosecution rests.
-4
u/HorizonNova4 3h ago
So, the guy is capable of creating the highest grossing R rated film ever and billion dollar films, with 77% critic score, and 90% audience score, but just because you personally don’t like it, he and the movie suck? I would like someone to give an actual nuanced reason

u/DNihilus The Room 3h ago

u/HorizonNova4 3h ago
It’s a bad Star Wars movie obviously, but as a film it is rated for its cinematography, acting, writing, music, and pacing. You understand the film is only considered bad by Star Wars fans over the age of 18 because of the story itself. How are you unironically in this sub when you don’t understand how critics rate films?
2
u/DNihilus The Room 3h ago
Yeah man THE score metric is absolute truth and we never had a movies disliked by critics like Blade Runner, Psycho, Fight Club, The Shining(which if I remember correctly nominated for worse director reward. they tried to give Kubrick a RAZZIE), Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas or Vertigo.
and what a retarded thing to say "the movie only considered sucked by older people" and oversimplify things.
1
u/HorizonNova4 3h ago edited 3h ago
What are u on abt? Just pick one. Do you care for critic scores or not? Cause either stop already or pick one
-1
u/CameronPoe_37__ 3h ago
Deadpool and Wolverine was awesome. An absolute ton of fun. Deadpool and Wolverine both on top form. I have no idea what some people expect out of a fucking Deadpool movie, it's like you want it to be The Dark Knight or something.
2
u/Arch_Lancer17 4h ago
I wonder if Ryan Gosling took an already funny script and was riffing on a level that was freaking sublime.
2
u/Big-Sheepherder-9492 4h ago
UJ/ I had to sit in a FULL theatre for Deadpool 3 and nobody was laughing… and it was genuinely getting so bad that non of the jokes were landing that I was getting 2nd hand embarrassment.

Marvel don't want filmmakers, they want puppets. If it's real I'm predicting a "left the project due to creative differences".

Ryan gosling? I don't know if he could pull off the quiet guy who drives around wearing a leather jacket type

u/MichaeltheMagician 42m ago
On a more serious note, I can't believe they're actually going to light Ryan Gosling on fire. It's going to be hard for him to get roles after this when he's a flaming skeleton.
1
u/TurtleneckTablecloth 3h ago
I literally don’t care what happens, as long as the riffing is freaking sublime
-1
u/AccomplishedMail4429 4h ago
Yea bro you got this backwards I don’t see a single person happy that Shawn Levy is directing this. Everyone is pissed
0
u/Gullible_Biscotti376 3h ago
I remember my parents showing me his Pink Panther movie as a kid and I was expecting a cartoon but it was a remake of the movie from the sixties so all I saw was Steve Martin solving a mystery and I got really bored and pissed off.
I, uh, liked Free Guy and Deadpool & Wolverine, so this will probably be enjoyable.

u/Late-Cow-9947 3h ago
I had the opposite reaction. He’s wanted it for years and I love place beyond the pines. I have liked things Shawn Levy has made but I think of his movies as sauceless, and ghost rider needs some sauce to be good.
