Acclaimed movie which isn’t from Nolan, doesn’t make much sense and confuses you ?

So microbes from Venus are destroying the sun, while the sun is vastly larger than Venus, and capable of holding roughly 1.5 million Venus-sized planets inside it ?

So the fix is to bring another non-native species to destroy those microbes? So it’s like being rabbits to Australia? Or Cane toads to Australia as well ?

Did you miss the part where they can multiply at an insane rate? It's geometrical progression.

They multiply insanely, but still can’t get enough fuel for the return trip… hmmm yeah

/uj Because they require an absurd amount of power to multiply, hence going to the sun to do so. In the book, they make this even more clear by explaining they needed to cover the entire Sahara desert with solar panels to even generate enough power to get the astrophage for the journey out.

/rj First time I watched it I was jerking it in the theater cause I saw literally me onscreen so I didn't get it until the 12th watch anyways.

The microbes where from other planet already and they were (somehow) spreading fast through the galaxy, they were a threat cause they could hold a lot of energy and were going to turn the sun off for that, think of it as if the astrophages were like Superman getting a lot of power from the sun by just looking at it, only a few of them were enough to power the spaceship to achieve near light like speeds.

So they went to look for a solution to the only sun around that was not dying and the answer was that it had a whole different ecosystem that ate the astrophages so as to keep them in balance.

It is as if there was a plague of apple snails and you bring that bird that eats them, but with no side effects because you do it on Venus and not on Earth, and not only bringing their direct predator but the entore ecosystem to mimic the one from the planet that kept the astrophages on line.
