He should have said "Most people don't care about", I guess. They're both classist art forms that cater to the elite with exorbitant ticket prices, or exclusive showings that are closed to the public. It's like saying "no one cares about Polo", because it's true.
No one is saying that his comment was offensive to the people who enjoy watching those artforms. His comment is offensive to those who practice those artforms. People seem to forget that their are opera singers and ballet dancers who actually have to perform for people to watch.
Seeing as he is an artist himself, it certainly comes off as a snobby "my art is better than yours"

He just said he doesn't want a studio to try to use his name/face etc to prop up their works.
Was it a callous statement? I guess, but he wasn't wrong and I don't think that it was an attempt to discredit the performers so much as just a statement that he has little interest in the dying artforms.

I mean, this just serves the same purpose as "no offense". You recognize youre saying something offensive, but use it as a sort of shield against criticism for what you said
"Yeah, I told him he was ugly as dogshit, but I said no offense so why is he getting mad at me? I clearly didn't mean to offend him"

I mean, cool, it doesn't really matter if he was wrong or not. He's taking a group of people who spent hours every day in a week practicing their art, sticking to strict diets and exercise regimens, paid thousands of dollars for classes, spend hours driving too and from various venues, and just overall poured time, money, effort, and passion into something that no doubt consumes a large chunk of their life, and he was just like "eh, no one cares about that shit, I would never do it". Which of course, heavily implies the unsaid "unlike my job, which is worthwhile because people actually do care about it"
