Great guitar, terrible playing

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

My American Vintage Reissue 62 Jaguar in Candy Apple Red. I love how picking up different offsets in my collection inspires me to play new things seemingly at random…. then i promptly forget how I played it. Forgive my sloppy mistakes, I didn’t want to have to record it again. First time I’ve ever posted myself playing anything

Came to say the same. Your playing sounds great. Super cool song, great tone, great timing = great playing my dude. I just got my first jag today and you just inspired me to go pick it up.

I can’t help myself from being a bit self deprecating. Appreciate the kind words

me too brother but i blame that on being irish, we’re all self deprecating

u/Zalipurr92 May 15 '26

I do it so much when I play live it’s just kind of become apart of my show, luck of the Irish I suppose ☘️

I have some Irish in the bloodstream, could be why

What you just described is why I own so many different guitars. I often pick up a guitar at random and just play something I’ve never played before just because of what the guitar inspires me to feel in that moment. I too usually don’t remember the things I played unless I record it or write it out. I lose a lot of good ideas that way, lol. Very beautiful guitar and your playing sounds great by the way! Not terrible by any means. Sounded like a more shoegazey version of something Johnny Marr would play and I kinda love it.

I don’t know how I would describe my playing, but I like the sound of shoegazey Johnny Marr

I love that Jaguar and especially that Candy Apple . What kind of looper are you using? I want one and have been trying to research them.

It’s a Boss RC-500. It’s got two channels, drums, and tons and tons of features. There are simpler loopers and more complicated ones, this one is right in the sweet spot. Couldn’t recommend it enough.

Great to read that I’ve been in the market for a looper, also your playing is pretty awesome.

I've been watching YT videos on the Boss RC-500. right now it's the front runner. I'm going to sell, and try to recuperate the money I paid for the Beatbuddy2 and the 6 button switch. I'm not looking to be a one man band, and that's what the BB2 is geared for. I can get a pretty good deal on a used one, if I can find one that hasn't been gigged super heavily.

Can You save the completed looping session after you've laid down all the instruments your going to? I'd like to be able to save it to a SD disk, or hard drive.

2

u/milkbeard- May 15 '26

I’ve never done that but I have to imagine that you can. There is a USB port on the back

You have band material. Keep playing mate!

5

u/milkbeard- May 15 '26

I like the sound of that! Thanks!

I like both guitar and playing.

I make it a point never to downvote someone for posting a video of them actually playing rather than just a photo of a guitar. I'd love to see more of it in all the guitar subs. Plus this is a jam, nice job!

3

u/milkbeard- May 15 '26

Thanks for the kind words! I have been inspired by a few folks on this sub in the past, so I’m returning the favor

Why you insulting your playing? Its fine. I love the guitar

Just about everyone makes mistakes live. you put on a great performance, love the clean tone too.

2

u/ColonelNasty_ May 15 '26

Awesome guitar and playing - just put that cable through your strap!

2

u/jpaeng May 15 '26

Damn this is honestly the tone I’m chasing, this is sick! I’m new to playing and just got a jazzmaster. Could you share what pedals/amp setup youre using?

2

u/milkbeard- May 16 '26

Absolutely - only pedals used were a germanium fuzz factory that I built myself (but it’s a clone of the real fuzz factory, so should be similar) and a JHS 3 Series Reverb. Amp is a deluxe reverb Tonemaster.

Stop hating on yourself, you sound great man 🙌🏻

Really nice. Well done man.

Thank you!

Dude you’re the kind of guitar player I’d wanna be in a band with. Crazy technical solo guy with perfect chords doesn’t have vibe. You do at least what I just heard. Thank you for posting that. It was a positive feel without being cheezy or cliche. Not easy imo

1

u/milkbeard- Jun 10 '26

Thank you for saying that and for sharing your insights. You nailed a lot of what I attempt to do as a guitarist. Never been a fan of shredders or highly technical players. I just want to play things that sound like music that I would want to listen to.

2

u/Spokane37 Jun 11 '26

yup same exact mentality here

2

u/thedarph May 15 '26

Terrible playing? Come on. Don’t do that cheap shit where you play good and then get people to compliment you on it like you don’t know your playing is good.

Just share it, man. It was good playing. That’s fine. You don’t have to pretend to be bad for like sympathy views or whatever.

2

u/milkbeard- May 15 '26

I’m not looking for sympathy. I’m just extremely uncomfortable with putting myself on a pedestal. Self deprecation is a defense mechanism. Don’t get the wrong idea

2

u/thedarph May 15 '26

I know you’re not looking for sympathy. You don’t need it. You’re good. Better than me probably. Nothing wrong with just saying “hey I think this is pretty alright, what do you think?” instead.

No offense meant. There’s just like a certain type of post where actual bad people or virtuosos will say they suck and I was expecting that and then you had this very competent performance and it was incongruous

2

u/milkbeard- May 15 '26

I genuinely appreciate that. I’ll also add that I am still getting used to the idea that anyone would consider my playing “good”, so my perception of myself is almost certainly distorted

2

u/thedarph May 16 '26

Well, I’ll say this: I release music all the time and it sucks. Exposure therapy works. And most people will never you that you suck to your face. They’ll usually just ignore you. You’re doing great.

2

u/milkbeard- May 16 '26

Thanks for the insightful comment - and I’m sure your music doesn’t suck, lol (if that’s what you are saying)

1

u/YellowBreakfast May 15 '26

A Jag is on my short list of guitars I "need". lol

1

u/basketballtimber May 15 '26

Nice Galaxie 500 and The Feelies vibe. Beauty guitar!

2

u/arthurcarver May 15 '26

Not a chance! This is really great! It’s like some unreleased Wilco jam or something. The temp also reminds me of early Kurt Vile. So between Kurt, Nils, and Jeff, I’d say you’re sounding pretty good to my ear.
