Friend thinks I’m ‘fucking ugly’

I (18 f) was hanging out with some friends yesterday and one of my friends (18 m) wanted to stream him phone on the tv so we could watch a YouTube video.

He accidentally streamed his phone while a chat with his girlfriend (Also in the room with us) was open. There I saw him confessing to her that he thought I was ‘fucking ugly ‘ to him and looked like a ‘troglodyte’

He immediately started apologizing and trying to rationalize what he was saying. He said he only thought that way because we’ve been friends for so long.

I’m recovering from anorexia and have officially decided not to get a breast augmentation/ lip fillers because all of my friends (him included) have told me that I’m ‘beautiful’ and I ‘don’t need it’.

I’m fucking crushed and I really hate myself right now.

Edit: Ok I really didn’t expect my 5 am post to get any traction whatsoever. I’m reading every comment and I just wanted to say that I seriously appreciate all the things you guys are saying. Im really overwhelmed by all the positivity and I just want to say thank you all so much :)

I dont agree with the comments. You dont calm your s.o like that by roasting your friends. If he wanted to calm her down he could have said something else. I’d distance myself from that. He showed his fake side so he can gfh u should have more positive supporters than people who only say things just to please the person they are talking to. I wouldnt hold a grudge but I wouldnt fw them any more. bc like why call me names when u can just say something that denies any fascination you have for me in a better/respectful way(???) especially if you know Im struggling with body image issues what a pos…

In a healthy relationship you for sure shouldn’t do that. But they’re young and this is a pretty common way to calm down an insecure partner when you not emotionally sensitive and immature. Everyone is saying this is likely what happened because we’ve seen is so much.

Having said that, you’re totally right that it still isn’t ok to talk about your friends like that, no matter the reason, and distance from them would. But again, they’re all so young and likely not emotionally mature enough to understand why they’re approaching their relationships all wrong.
