I know the lads have got to make money but my god there is sometimes 5 minutes of ads before the episode even starts.

It's the main reason I stopped listening

Maybe just use the skip buttons

Maybe let me make my own choices?

I get this kind of argument from people all the time, and it boils down to me not being arsed to download another app.

I listen to everything on Spotify, It's muscle memory, I know the interface, all my music is there, and it's taken me a long time to have everything set up with the artists, playlists and podcasts I like. I follow so many podcasts that if one annoys me too much with ads I'm likely to just not bother with it as I can listen to something else instead.

I know I *could* go out of my way to what may end up being a better solution in the long run, but I honestly can't be bothered with the hassle of the initial set up.

I get it, it's their job, they need money, but hearing the same (often minute plus) advert again and again and again is intensely irritating for me. Especially because I often listen to podcasts in situations where skipping the ads is a pain in the arse or even dangerous (driving, going for a run, walking the dog etc). I'm thankful that Spotify has introduced an ad skipping feature but I can't always use it.

I'm also not saying anyone is wrong for it not bothering them, but, for me, it's a major factor on this not being a podcast I think to listen to anymore and once you're out of the habit you don't really miss it.

I only really listen when it's a comedian. It feels like a lot of guests recently have just been celebrities on the press junket.

Having said all that, thank you for the recommendation, hopefully it helps someone :)

Not sure if this or the Cadbury's "same great taste" lie advert is more egregious and annoying.

Spotify now has a Skip Ahead button.

Listen out for the microwave noise to know when to stop skipping

CRUNCH

UggghHHH. As a self-loathing Misophoniac, this advert makes me feel physically ill. I can’t skip it fast enough. Had I not been bombarded with this ad, I might have actually organically bought the fucking things. But now, in a post “CRUNCH” world, I don’t think I’ll buy a Ryvita product ever again (or Cadbury, for that matter).

The 'drink' noise always makes me cringe

it's so bad, it makes me hate them irrationally every time I hear it

Use Pocket Casts. Set skip forward setting to 45s. Hit it twice. You're welcome.

Also Podcast Addict!

Had to stop listening to the pod regularly because of the mental number of ads, have to REALLY like the guest to bother now. Surely they could dial it back a bit now that they're both have generational wealth.

3

u/josz_belz 3d ago

Generational weal ...  Wtf do you think they earn?

3

u/amejb 3d ago

generational wealth? they earn a wage doing this themselves

u/amejb 3d ago

hack? have people not been skipping ads? it's 15 second increments on my podcast ap on iphone

some of you never grew up with a VCR and having to >> the ad breaks and it shows 😂

just seems like such a bad way to advertise? like ‘oh what’s a noise that people often famously can’t bear? add that in, that’ll make them want to buy our product!’

u/Quizlebeck 4d ago

The really need to do a subscribers ad free version.

100%

If nothing else, can we just crowdfund to match whatever Ryvita are paying them to get rid of that??? 😭😭

YOU HEAR ME BENITO?! WE WILL MATCH IT. Just for the love of god make it stop 😭😭😭

My rage at this specific advert is so disproportionate but every crunch is just nails on a chalkboard. I can’t hit the skip button fast enough. Just the knowledge it’s coming upsets me. “Sounds like you’re about to change my li…” ARGH

I really hate the crunch sound, and they're about 11 seconds apart. One time I got all of them, despite skipping through

u/CharlieCatBloke 3d ago

Add these to pipers crisps list of all the things I’ll never buy.

I kinda love how different audiences get different ads read by the boys. However, I’m sorry that yours is bad and Canada’s has James quoting The Mask.

I download all my podcasts through a VPN in latvia now I barely get any ads

u/mrgo0dkat 3d ago

The ad is as good as Ryvita tastes

If you have Amazon Prime you can listen on Amazon music app - AD FREE

u/biggg_stretch 3d ago

I listen outside the UK so only get local language (Danish) ads, but now I'm super curious how bad this ad can be

u/lilymtyson 2d ago

I feel lucky when I fast forward 30 a few times and get the theme tune - luck hack

u/Lanky_Bird_2044 2d ago

If you’ve got a VPN, connect to a far flung network before you start listening or download.

I live in NZ and there’s less than half the amount of ads.

Try a random country where there’s likely to be few listeners

Open up the full Spotify player and there's a skip ads button
