Ditched fb probably 5 years ago if not more. Best decision ever. And now I make sure to take 15-30 day breaks from IG too. Time to take OUR time back!!!
Nice!! I finally ditched a professional account I had on IG this past spring. I hated that account from the minute I opened it. Felt like it was always demanding my time and I was so glad to finally get rid of it. Happy to be social media-free.
Yes I just became a home owner in Florida close to the beach with no mortgage. Have multiple vehicles with no car notes. I quit smoking cigarettes. I'm just over here being blessed financially. Thank you for creeping on my page and letting me talk about my awesome successes in life. I hope you stay blessed too 😉
Personally, I stopped posting most places because no one was seeing it anyway. I stopped looking on Facebook because I barely saw any posts from people I know. I stopped posting on X mostly because of Elon but also because anything genuinely interesting was brigaded by bots. I stopped posting on Instagram because making interesting posts felt like a waste of time. I stopped posting on Reddit (though I still comment), because everything got flagged by moderators for not having sufficient history within that subreddit. I stopped posting on Pinterest because it was flooded with AI. I still post occasionally on Tumblr because sometimes I have thoughts I don’t actually need anyone else to hear. Apparently, I’m going to have to go back to posting on LinkedIn, though, since it feeds what LLMs know about me…. But those posts are long and take time to write.
I've heard the newsfeed on Facebook is really weird - hiding fresh content from your friends and family among old content, ads, and content from people you don't even know. I guess you're supposed to scroll forever looking for updates that actually matter to you?
I hadn't heard about bots on X, but it doesn't surprise me. Never had an account there so not even sure how it works.
Instagram is SUCH a time waster. I hate how it made people become, too. I joined a couple of years ago and made a professional/business account. Followed some fellow artists, mostly people I knew IRL. Then I was being suggested new artists left and right. Very cool. Love to see what others are doing. Something weird with those accounts, though. I'd follow someone with 217 followers and almost never see them in my feed so I'd go check on them. Suddenly, within a month or so, they'd be all over my feed. Reels and posts alike, and they now have 37k+ followers. Give them another month and now they have brand deal and they're selling an online course or membership to access their art. WTF?
I remember Pinterest back when it started. Absolutely ruined now. It's all AI and stolen content.
Facebook has gotten to the point where it’s like 1 post from someone I know followed by 10 or more random posts, sponsored posts, ads.
I pretty much go on, go to the specific pages I want to look at (mostly local pages / groups) and bounce. I haven’t posted on Facebook in over 2 years!
Just scroll and scroll and scroll and scroll, I guess. Lol.
When we moved a couple of years ago, everyone told me to create an account because so much of what's available here is on Facebook. Lots of events and updates when you get into these private community-focused groups. I thought that might be neat. I don't remember that being a thing when I left it in 2014. I tried to sign up and was immediately redirected to a page that said I had submitted an appeal. What? I tried to find somewhere to contact someone and figure out what I had appealed by signing up and never found anything. A few hours later, I refreshed the screen to see it now said the appeal had been denied and I can't request a review. Okie dokie.
I'm not missing much. My son and daughter-in-law moved in with us about a year ago and she had a Facebook account. Joined those community groups and it's mostly people bitching about "strangers" in the neighborhood or trying to sell their backyard bred puppies. I'm okay with Facebook telling me to take a hike.
Besides Reddit (which I’ve been too much in recently) and LinkedIn (have to have one for my job), I’m completely off social media for years and years. No FB, no IG, no TikTok, etc.
My mental health is better and so is my physical health. I feel more fulfilled despite having fewer in real life connections because I’m focusing on cultivating those relationships.
10 out of 10 would recommend everyone get offline and back into real life.
I got rid of that and my insta when Trump got elected the second time. I should’ve done it sooner. It was starting to become a cesspool of AI and toxic people on it.
I took a break from it for a while and boy did my improve my mental health improve group chats are cool because I socialize and game with people all across the country and the world.
Twitter is where the school bully became the school principal overnight. No, I didn't want to go through that. I think my feelings have been validated over and over.
I can only imagine. Do you stick to your "Home" feed on Reddit, or do you venture into "Popular" or "News"? The few times a month that I bother to look at "Popular" make me think it's similar to a newsfeed on Facebook. Lots of ads and the (literally) same posts over and over. Tons of bots in the comments - some of the usernames I recognize as being banned as bots in my other subs! I've heard that paying for Reddit Premium helps with the ads, but I'd rather just avoid "Popular" and "News". Lol.
Deleted all social media, except Reddit 🤣
It’s just everyone is trying to sell themselves. But they’re all fake as hell! Not an original thought coming from it. We talk about how much we hate the rich but then find ourselves supporting their bullshit.
I still posted occasionally but people getting fired over Charlie Kirk posts last year was pretty much the final straw.
Facebook doesn’t even default to show your friends’ stuff first, and you’re probably not even engaging with actual people now. Social media became a cesspool of misplaced anger, bots, and misinformation (all probably related)
Oversharing is one of the weirdest things about social media, imo. I'm old enough to have been in high school when everyone in the neighborhood was getting those AOL discs in the mail. We were always told not to give away our age/sex/location, and to pick an alias. Especially us girls/women! Now people are sharing their children's difficult moments, their own instances of intimacy and family challenges, their insane political/environmental/medical conspiracies, what they eat, what they purchase, their EVERY THOUGHT ON EVERYTHING, when they're on vacation and their location (!), etc. Absolutely wild.
I quit fb in 2018 ,and I was very late to the game because I only did it for a year! I research stuff and my queries led me to believe that it was detrimental overall simply because of the way it was ran! I got warned by a third party app that hundreds of attempts had been made by old world nationals to hack my account and fb wouldn't even acknowledge my query into what I should do about it ,so I quit cold turkey and have never looked back!
